Chapter 147: Arrogance
Chapter 147: Arrogance
.
Everyone heard him, but no one said anything, some even nodded, as if they agreed with him.
It was hard not to.
After all, they were all instructors at the academy for a reason.
Not only were their talents above the vast majority of cultivators out there, but each of them also had a very deep understanding of their own discipline.
Better than anyone, they understood just how difficult it was to reach a level of comprehension of one’s weapon that allowed the manifestation of a spiritual projection, in other words, to manifest a weapon’s aura.
They knew that while everyone theoretically had the chance to reach this level, doing so often required decades.
Many spent half their lives striving toward it.
To achieve it in under twenty years was a tremendous accomplishment, one that everyone could respect and admire.
That was because such a level was proof that the person was close to reaching the rank of Master in their profession. Needless to say, this rank was highly esteemed by all, whether human or elf.
So even if it was only the first stage of weapon intent, simply reaching it was no small thing, let alone at such a young age.
That was why, when everyone heard Zhu Rong’s words, they couldn’t help but frown, some even feeling anger, thinking that this boy was being far too arrogant.
Chen Ao was also angry.
Like Li Duoji, he considered Zhu Rong inferior to talents like theirs.
And even though he watched his disciple being beaten left and right, he still believed that he would win, because he knew about his disciple’s spear aura.
Seeing how this boy, even after all that, still acted arrogant, got on his nerves, and he couldn’t help but criticize him openly without caring in the slightest about Liang Yuexing nearby, who wasn’t just this student instructor, but also his fiancée.
The thought crossed his mind but he brushed it aside, continuing to speak, this time directing his words straight at her.
"Instructor Liang, you really should discipline your student. He has a lot of potential, but if he continues like this, it won’t be long before he ends up causing his own downfall," he said, his words sounding like a genuine advice on the surface, but to everyone’s ears, they were as clear as day.
Some of them could only shake their heads, thinking they wouldn’t know what to say either if they were in that situation.
Liang Yuexing, already irritated by Chen Ao’s earlier remarks, gave him a cold look as she replied,
"It’s kind of you to worry about my disciple’s future, but I’m afraid there’s really no need for it." she said, her gaze calm, far calmer than before.
At first, even she felt that Zhu Rong’s words had gone a bit too far. But then she noticed something,
something that made her heart skip for a moment.
Soon her emotions calmed, her expression turning composed, cold, and with a glimmer of anticipation, as she turned her eyes back to the arena.
Hearing Zhu Rong’s words, Li Duoji couldn’t help but laugh loudly.
"I knew you were a crazy bastard, but you’ve surpassed my expectations.
Very well then, If you want to put it that way, then I’ll be more than happy to see how you handle this pathetic spear aura!" he said, his grip tightening around his spear as he assumed an attacking stance, ready to unleash his most powerful strike against his opponent.
Zhu Rong didn’t say another word.
Without wasting time, he raised the fire spear in his hand, its yellow orange flames swirling more intensely than before.
His expression was calm, in stark contrast to the situation he was in.
He looked steadily at his opponent, who was already poised for attack, and for a moment, he simply observed him.
Then he drew his arm back, and without hesitation, hurled his spear straight at him.
Li Duoji, seeing this, didn’t seem alarmed. On the contrary, with a mad grin on his face, he charged forward with all his might, meeting Zhu Rong’s attack head on.
The audience was silent as they watched the two unleash their final attacks. None of them dared blink, their eyes fixed on the field, unwilling to miss even a fraction of what was about to unfold.
And they didn’t have to wait long.
In an instant, Li Duoji was off his spot, already halfway across the arena, his spear thrust forward, clashing directly against Zhu Rong’s fire spear.
The moment the two weapons collided, a bubble of energy burst forth, expanding in every direction. No one paid it any mind, because in the very next moment, a blinding light exploded, followed by a thunderous boom that made many ears bleed.
Chaos erupted among the crowd as everyone immediately circulated their Qi to protect their hearing, eyes half shut as they endured the piercing brightness blazing from the arena.
They had expected something like this might happen, so they were somewhat prepared, but even so, the force unleashed by the clash of the two weapons was too overwhelming, far stronger than the earlier collision between Li Duoji and Yao Jianbo.
Everyone had no choice but to use Qi to shield their ears.
The explosion was also far more intense, releasing beams of light so strong they had to squint their eyes shut for a moment.
As they did, they suddenly heard a sharp crack, followed by many more. And before they could even grasp what was happening, the sound of something shattering rang out, and a chilling thought struck everyone’s mind at once.
The barrier around the arena had been destroyed.
Yes, that very same barrier that had withstood the explosive power of Li Duoji and Yao Jianbo’s clash, the same one capable of withstanding any attack from a fourth stage cultivator, whether at the early or peak stage, it didn’t matter.
But now, that very barrier had been shattered by a clash between two students who weren’t even close to the peak of the fourth stage?
