Chapter 299: Chapter 297: Return One Hundredfold
"Xixi! Are you all right?"
Jian Xi, in a daze, almost fainted.
Jian Chuxin held her arms and apologized, "It’s all Second Brother’s fault; I haven’t taken good care of you. I nearly let you get poisoned to death. Rest assured, if I don’t catch the culprit today and let you deal with them as you see fit, I’m a dog!"
He was truly enraged. The news somehow reached Zhang Yaxuan’s ears, naturally disturbing Hilda as well. Hilda, working with Jian Chuxin, had the entirety of Saint Seymour turned inside out until they found the body of the waiter assassin by the riverbank.
When Jian Xi heard this news, her heart turned as cold as ice. She clenched her fists tightly and let out a cold laugh. "I’ve already fled abroad, yet someone still wants me dead! Since they’re so ruthless, they can’t blame me for what I do next!"
Perhaps it was the impending motherhood, but an unprecedented rage surged within her. Anyone who wanted to harm her children deserved to die!
She suddenly looked up and asked Hilda, "Could you please help me find this person?" A photo of Si Yuhuan appeared before everyone.
Jian Chuxin exclaimed, "You think Si Yuhuan wants you dead?"
Jian Xi nodded vigorously. When that waiter was fleeing, he yelled, ’Si, you’ve doomed me!’ Was it Si Junyan? Hilda had practically torn Saint Seymour apart and still couldn’t find him! Now, they just needed to check if Si Yuhuan had been here. If he had... Jian Xi dared not imagine.
Soon, Hilda’s men reported back. "Miss Jian, we saw this man three days ago. He came here looking for a woman, and from his description, it seems it was you," one of Hilda’s subordinates said, his voice trembling slightly as he added, "I also heard that the man was seething with anger. He was on the phone saying that once he caught her, he’d never let her go."
BOOM!
Jian Xi felt as if she’d been struck by lightning.
He wanted to kill her! Si Yuhuan had actually tracked her down, intending to poison her! How deeply he must hate her!
A sharp pain clawed at her heart, and Jian Xi could barely breathe.
Jian Chuxin was furious. "That bastard! His love has turned to hatred! Can’t he bear to see our Xixi marry someone else and have another man’s children? He can cheat on Xixi, so why can’t she find someone else? Trying to kill my sister right under my nose? Does he think I’m dead?!"
He was about to rush out and fight Si Yuhuan to the death when Jian Xi grabbed his arm. "Second Brother, don’t be impulsive."
So it really was him! Jian Xi knew he was a cruel and vengeful wolf, one who could profess deep love one moment and show his fangs the next. She should never have misplaced an ounce of trust in this man. Had she truly forgotten the pain and fury of her death in her past life?
BANG!
Jian Xi slammed her palm fiercely onto the table. "Si Yuhuan, you bastard! You deserve to die!"
Suddenly, she felt a sharp contraction, and blood began to flow from between her legs. An unprecedented panic seized her. Jian Xi gripped Jian Chuxin’s arm tightly, the crushing fear of impending motherhood making it almost impossible to breathe. She struggled to maintain her composure, forcing herself to take deep breaths. "I’m fine. No matter what, we must save the children!"
Zhang Yaxuan remained calm. "Don’t panic. Nothing will happen. To prevent exactly this kind of situation, I’ve already arranged for a doctor specializing in childbirth. We’ll go to the hospital immediately."
"Thank you!" Jian Chuxin was immensely grateful. He immediately swept Jian Xi into his arms and rushed her to the car.
Not far away, a dark figure stood in a corner, watching this unfold with a cold laugh.
BANG!
The explosion was earth-shattering.
Jian Chuxin hadn’t chosen his own sports car, opting instead for Zhang Yaxuan’s unassuming sketching vehicle. In that split second, as another car would have passed the spot they’d just vacated, it exploded.
He trembled with rage. It was always wise to be vigilant, but he hadn’t expected them to dare make a move right under his nose!
"Find out who’s responsible!" Hilda roared, equally furious. His men swiftly surrounded the area.
The dark figure, seeing the plan had failed, slammed a fist down in frustration and turned to flee.
"Si Yuhuan, you want me dead so badly you’d harm others? You’re cruel! I hate you!" Jian Xi cried out before fainting.
When she woke up, it was night. Jian Chuxin immediately rushed to her side. "Xixi, it’s all Second Brother’s fault. You’re all right! Fourth Brother is on his way! No matter what, you and the children will be safe and healthy."
Jian Xi’s hand flew to her stomach. Thank goodness. Thank goodness the children were still safe. Her due date was only a month and a half away; she couldn’t bear for any accidents to happen. Tears streamed down her face.
She had thought her frozen heart could no longer feel pain, but truly sensing Si Yuhuan’s torrential hatred and brutality, she was in agony!
"Don’t worry," Jian Chuxin said, his eyes red with heartache. "Once you’re stable, I’ll make Si Yuhuan pay with his life, even if it costs me my own. How can that bastard be so heartless?"
Seeing the wounds on Jian Chuxin’s back, Jian Xi exclaimed in shock, "Second Brother! Call a doctor, quickly!" The blood on his hand seemed to stain her vision red with alarm. Growing anxious, she tried to get up, but Jian Chuxin comforted her, "It’s nothing, just minor injuries. I’ve filmed countless action scenes over the years; getting hurt is unavoidable. Compared to what you’re going through, these are just mosquito bites to Second Brother."
Jian Xi cried. Second Brother had been injured by shrapnel while protecting her from the explosion.
"Second Brother, if I survive, I will get my revenge personally." Si Yuhuan! You deserve to die!
The doctor arrived and, after a series of examinations, shook his head. "The trauma is quite severe. We need to focus on preserving the pregnancy."
"It’s best for the children if they’re born at full term, isn’t it?" Jian Xi asked.
The doctor nodded.
"Alright! I’ll cooperate fully with the treatment. Please, do everything you can to save my children and ensure they are healthy. I’m willing to do anything."
Jian Xi urged Jian Chuxin to go get his wounds bandaged, and she was left alone, sinking into deep thought.
Hilda and Zhang Yaxuan soon appeared. Hilda spoke first, "Everything has been arranged. Nearly a hundred of my people are guarding the perimeter; not even a fly will get through. All personnel entering and exiting are being strictly monitored, and no suspicious or unauthorized individuals will be allowed near you. The people attending to you personally are my most trusted confidants; their loyalty is absolute. I assure you, there will be no further incidents. Please, rest easy." He then expressed his profound apologies for the car explosion that had nearly killed Jian Xi and Jian Chuxin.
Before Jian Xi could say anything, Zhang Yaxuan interjected, "Those babies in your womb are my godson and goddaughter—my future children in name. If he dares to harm your children, he’s harming ours too. This is our fight as well."
Jian Xi was deeply moved.
Hilda frowned. "That man is utterly despicable! Don’t worry, if I find any trace of him, I’ll personally beat him to a pulp to vent your anger." His straightforward and decisive words helped to dispel some of the gloom in Jian Xi’s heart.
"For all your trouble and expense, please accept this small token of my appreciation," Jian Xi said, transferring ten million to Zhang Yaxuan.
Zhang Yaxuan tried to refuse, but Jian Xi insisted, "Please, take it. It will put my mind at ease. Don’t let this affect my delivery."
