Chapter 221: Chapter 219: He’s Just a Ninja Turtle

Si Yuhuan had been in the hospital for three days.

Jian Xi had been by his side, never leaving.

She had considered hiring a nurse or asking Yan Qing for help. But every time she left him, he would "suddenly" feel a sharp pain somewhere.

Jian Xi was being driven nearly insane.

Whenever her patience wore thin, Si Yuhuan would say, "Go ahead and leave. I’ll just bear the pain."

Self-reproach and guilt compelled Jian Xi to keep her temper in check as she massaged each of his sore spots.

Today, just after Jian Xi had finished massaging his wrist, Si Yuhuan complained of chest discomfort. Biting her back molars in disdain, Jian Xi said, "You’re so young, yet so weak. Your physical constitution is terrible, Si Yuhuan. Don’t tell me you have kidney deficiency?"

Si Yuhuan was speechless.

Jian Xi continued, seemingly to herself, "Well, that’s understandable, considering you’ve had issues down there twice."

She was deliberately trying to provoke Si Yuhuan, just waiting for him to lose his temper and drive her away.

Unexpectedly, the next second, the man forcefully flipped her over, pressing her down onto the bed. His handsome face grew larger in her vision, and her heartbeat pounded like a war drum.

"Si Yuhuan, this is a hospital!"

"Today, I’m going to make you experience firsthand whether I’m ’deficient’ or not."

Questioning a man’s prowess was really asking for death!

Jian Xi pushed at him with her small foot. "I was just joking!"

"You dare to make any kind of joke. Your nerve is getting bolder and bolder," he said.

Without any makeup, Jian Xi’s beautiful lips were as red and enticing as fruit. Captivated, Si Yuhuan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he leaned in to kiss her lightly.

Although Jian Xi should have resisted, she was momentarily stunned, giving the man an opportunity. His large hand moved deeper.

Jian Xi let out a soft moan.

The flames of passion ignited rapidly between them.

Suddenly, a cell phone rang.

Jian Xi snapped back to reality, pushing Si Yuhuan away in panic. Her clothes had been pulled open wide, revealing the beautiful sight beneath.

Si Yuhuan’s deep, languid eyes glimmered with the scattered fire of desire.

He gritted his teeth in frustration. Who was this inconsiderate person calling now?

After answering, Fu Shengyuan’s gentle voice came through. "Xixi, where are you? Can I pick you up for a meal at the new Chinese restaurant?"

Jian Xi glanced at Si Yuhuan across from her and told a white lie, "Sorry, I’m swamped with work at the company. I can’t have lunch with you. Let’s reschedule."

Standing outside the hospital, Fu Shengyuan squinted his cold eyes as he looked at Jian Xi’s flashy Ferrari parked at the entrance. His voice remained gentle as he said, "Alright, then take care of yourself. I’ll ask you out again another day."

The moment he hung up, a vicious expression flashed across his face.

Si Yuhuan scoffed, "Rotting peach blossoms."

"As if your romantic choices are any better! Like a blind man who picked a dung-smeared flower and still treats it as a precious treasure. My romantic interests have nothing to do with you!"

The mention of Jiang Qimeng made Jian Xi explode. Si Yuhuan’s face turned somber, and he stopped talking.

Then he heard Jian Xi add, "Fu Shengyuan is no good. As if you’re any better."

The door slammed.

Si Yuhuan chuckled, a mix of anger and amusement.

Was that her assessment of him?

He called Yan Qing, his face stern.

"Come over."

Wan Yu came to pick Jian Xi up for a pregnancy check-up at a private hospital.

On the way, she couldn’t help asking, "Has Si Yuhuan shown any sort of reaction at all?"

If someone tried to take her spot, she swore she would explode and fight them to the death.

"Not only has he not reacted, he hasn’t even asked about the company’s situation. But it seems he’s quite disappointed with Old Master Si and Si Junyan."

Jian Xi couldn’t figure out what on earth he was thinking.

"I just saw Fu Shengyuan downstairs," Wan Yu said.

"He’s downstairs? Are you sure?"

Wan Yu nodded. "He’s so dapper and eye-catching; many women were giving him flirtatious glances. How could I possibly mistake him?"

Jian Xi laughed. "Is this guy a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or what?"

"He just said he wanted to have dinner with me, but I told him I was working overtime at the company. He didn’t call me out on it and even said we could find another time."

Wan Yu was bent over laughing. "No wonder he looked so upset when he left! So that’s what happened. Xixi, you’re really something!"

"Forget it. Like Si Yuhuan said, they’re just rotting peach blossoms, meaningless."

Her impression of Fu Shengyuan kept dropping, almost plunging below the horizon.

She didn’t believe a man who could endure to that extent was merely innocent.

Coming out of the examination room, Jian Xi looked at her test results, a glow of maternal love on her face.

Wan Yu held her elbow and clicked her tongue repeatedly. "You’re about to become a mom. It’s happening so fast."

She touched Jian Xi’s belly. "It’s grown quite a bit. I guess you won’t be able to hide it for much longer."

Jian Xi nodded seriously. "I’m going abroad soon to give birth."

Si Yuhuan was no fool. After a few more of these close encounters, he would probably figure things out.

"He did save you, and his sincerity was clear. Haven’t you thought about getting back together?"

Wan Yu was starting to root for Si Yuhuan.

"If I’m so easily moved, then I’m truly spineless. Besides, any decent man would have stepped in; he’s no exception," Jian Xi said stubbornly, though her heart softened.

Not wanting to continue this topic, she used her older brother as a shield.

As expected, Wan Yu was struck speechless.

She glared at her with annoyance. "You little ingrate."

Huh? Why was everyone calling her heartless today? She wouldn’t stand for it!

"For the sake of your great marital endeavor, I’ve decided to help give things a push."

Jian Xi dragged Wan Yu back to the Jian Family Old House for dinner.

She had called Jian Mingcheng in advance to let him know that Wan Yu would be joining them.

"Okay, that’s fine. Just let Mom and Dad prepare. I’ve got some work to do at the office, so I’ll hang up now."

Hearing his indifferent response, Wan Yu instantly drooped like an eggplant hit by frost—completely deflated and pitiful.

Jian Xi didn’t have much experience with romance either and didn’t know what to do, so she sought advice from Chu Xiao.

Chu Xiao immediately patted his chest and assured her, "Don’t worry, he’s just being stubborn. Go ahead and have dinner; he’ll be home before seven for sure."

Wan Yu stamped her feet in frustration. "You’re just tricking me! Last time, I wanted to chase after him, but you wouldn’t let me. BOO HOO HOO! If I miss out on a good match because of this, I’ll throttle you!"

At seven o’clock in the evening, Wan Yu fluttered around Jian’s Mother like a butterfly, chatting happily, though her eyes kept darting toward the door.

Jian Xi often saw a reflection of herself in Wan Yu.

Once, she too would meticulously prepare food in the kitchen, hoping Si Yuhuan would come home, eat a bite of her heartwarming meal, and praise her for being a good wife.

Times had changed.

"Xixi, he’s still not back. I think I’ve completely lost my chance."

Jian Xi didn’t know how to console her; Wan Yu was very disheartened.

"Uncle, Auntie, I still have some things to take care of at the office, so I’ll just..."

"Sorry, I’m late."

Jian Mingcheng entered, panting.

The moment Wan Yu saw him, her eyes lit up.

"I bought some cake. Want to try it?"

His eyes were on Wan Yu, but he directed the question to Jian Xi. His usually composed face began to flush.

Jian’s Father & Mother, both shrewd, exchanged a knowing glance.

Jian Xi felt her eyes unexpectedly welling up with tears.

She had been wrong. Wan Yu wasn’t a reflection of her; she was her own unique, sweet self. When two people truly loved each other, their happiness was amplified.
