Chapter 146: Chased by Mysterious Culprit

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Chased by Mysterious Culprit

Victoria was increasingly frightened by the current situation, which suddenly became unstable. While she had hoped to spend more time with her husband on the holidays, reality was completely different from her expectations. Now that they were being chased, she was reminded of an accident she had experienced several years ago. It was almost identical to what happened now. In her mind, the most terrifying moment she could not forget was the moment she nearly died in the accident because she lost control of her car due to high speed and was hit by a large truck at an intersection.

What made her a little suspicious now was whether the killer was still targeting her. How did that person know about her current activities? Was the killer really someone close to her? Who exactly was the killer?

Victoria didn’t want her husband involved in her problems. She looked at him with teary eyes and tightened her embrace. "Matthias, I’m scared."

Matthias looked around with a sharp gaze and patted his wife’s back. He was starting to feel dizzy as his assistant tried every possible way to avoid the mysterious car. He feared losing his wife a second time. Moreover, she had only just told him what happened after the accident. Was this a curse for bringing up the past again?

"Marcel, is there no other way we can avoid that car?" Matthias asked in a panicked tone.

"I’ve searched everywhere. I’ll try another, narrower path so he can’t find us."

Matthias’s gaze returned to his wife, who was still so frightened she was crying. He slowly stroked her head, pressing his lips to her forehead. "Tory, you don’t need to worry. Marcel won’t let our lives be in danger. You can count on him."

"Actually, I’m afraid that person will target me again like before. Moreover, I don’t want you involved in my problems." Her increasingly broken cries shattered Matthias’ heart.

"Victoria... this time I won’t let you get hurt. I’m the one protecting you now."

"But, I don’t want your life to be in danger too! I promised to go on a date with you today."

"Victoria, don’t worry. I’ll make sure you both get home safely," Marcel said in a panicked tone.

Victoria smiled kindly at Marcel, who was still focused on driving recklessly. "I’m really counting on you, Marcel."

"Because I owe Matthias a favor, now I have to protect you both."

Matthias looked at Marcel with a warm smile. "And I didn’t ask for anything in return. You really always push yourself."

"Now I just want you to hold hands tightly. I don’t want your lives to be in danger. Since you helped me once, now it’s time for me to protect you, Matthias."

"Don’t talk nonsense, Marcel! I still need your help to accompany me wherever I go. There’s no way I can rely on Sawyer as my driver."

Suddenly, the black van accelerated so fast that it caught up with them. This time, Marcel focused his attention back on the windshield. Relying on his driving skills, he overtook another car like he was shooting an action movie, leaving Victoria in awe, even though she was still terrified.

"Damn! It seems like his driving skills are better than mine!"

"Don’t lower yourself!" Matthias narrowed his eyes as he turned to look out the rear window to see the black van’s license plate. "I won’t forgive that perpetrator!"

"Matthias..."

Matthias kissed his wife’s temple deeply. "It’s a good thing I accompanied you home. If you were alone, I’m sure your life would have been in real danger."

"I don’t want my life to end so soon. I still want to live with you in peace. Moreover, I still want to fight for the leadership of the D&C Group to be restored to me. I don’t want the bad guys to win."

"But, did the killer only target Victoria?" Marcel asked nervously.

"What do you mean?" Matthias asked back.

"If he was only after Victoria, why did he chase your car?"

Victoria furrowed her brows. "Could it be that the perpetrator wasn’t just targeting me? He was targeting Matthias as well?"

"This is just my initial guess. What’s certain is that the number one thing I have to do now is save you."

Victoria is more likely to be curious about the real killer’s goal in targeting them. Did they make a big mistake that made him so determined to kill them? Who exactly is this person who keeps targeting her? Is it her stepmother? Because her stepmother has always held a grudge against Matthias.

Meanwhile, Matthias began to break out in a cold sweat after hearing his assistant’s tentative suspicions. If his assistant’s words were true, it could be concluded that his wife’s accident two years ago was a deliberate attempt to intimidate him. If he had been the primary target of the murder from the start, should he have disappeared from Victoria’s life? If he hadn’t accompanied his wife home now, wouldn’t her life have been in danger?

Marcel’s plan to drive the car into a narrow area was completely foiled by the van’s relentless pursuit. Finally, a brilliant idea occurred to him. He deliberately drove the car onto a relatively empty stretch of highway. As he passed a red light, he immediately stepped on the accelerator, successfully passing the intersection before it turned red.

However, due to his full speed, he had difficulty controlling the sedan, which ultimately resulted in it crashing into a streetlight pole. Matthias swiftly hugged his wife tightly, using his broad back as a shield to shield the glass from hitting her face.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the black sedan sustained significant damage, emitting smoke from the hood. Marcel was severely injured and unconscious, while Matthias was also bleeding from the head and unconscious. Only Victoria was unharmed, having been protected by her beloved husband.

Seeing her husband unconscious and his condition was quite badly injured made her go crazy.

"No!! Matthias!!"
