Chapter 326: Chapter 339: "Even when her biological mother died, she didn’t cry, but she was quite proactive in extorting money.
Lu Jinghan looked domineeringly at Han Xi, his indulgent voice carrying an unquestionable attitude.
Han Xi gave Lu Jinghan a look that said she definitely wouldn’t listen to him; after all, her mouth was her own, and no one could decide how little she wanted to eat.
Lu Jinghan leaned close to Han Xi’s ear, speaking in a voice only they could hear, "If you don’t behave, do you believe I might kiss you right in front of Sister Zhang?"
Given his tendency for doing whatever he wants, Han Xi certainly believed him and could only concede, glaring at him before obediently lowering her head to eat.
After dinner, Lu Jinghan went to the study; he had many documents waiting for him after not being at the office all day.
Han Xi lay on the bed in the bedroom, casually turning on the TV to start watching her drama. She didn’t know how long she’d been watching before she fell asleep.
Once Lu Jinghan finished dealing with the paperwork, he leaned down to take a cigarette from the pack on his desk, tilted his head to light it, and let white smoke escape from the corner of his mouth.
He walked to the large floor-to-ceiling window, rubbing his tired fingers against his brow as he held the cigarette.
After finishing the cigarette, he pressed the butt into the ashtray and pushed the door open to leave the study.
He tiptoed into the bedroom; Han Xi was already asleep in bed, so Lu Jinghan took the remote from her grip to turn off the TV, then lay down beside her.
Almost as if by telepathic connection, the moment Lu Jinghan lay down, Han Xi turned over to hug him, murmuring his name in her sleep.
"Silly girl, were you dreaming about me?"
He muttered to himself, drawing Han Xi into his arms, smiling as he drifted off to sleep.
.......
The next morning, Han Xi woke up, lazily reaching out to turn off the alarm clock on the bedside table.
She turned to look at Lu Jinghan, who was already dressed, speaking in a soft voice tinged with the rasp of just waking up, "Morning, hubby."
Lu Jinghan fastened the strap on his watch, giving her cheek a light pinch with a smile, "Morning, wife."
Han Xi got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom, turning on the faucet to splash water on her face, squeezing cleanser into her hand and rubbing it, letting the lather spread evenly across her skin.
"Jing Han, I’m working the night shift today, so I’ll drive to the hospital myself and eat dinner in the hospital cafeteria."
Han Xi stuck her head halfway out of the bathroom, continuing to rub her face while speaking.
"I won’t feel comfortable if you come home so late alone. I’ll pick you up tonight."
"Okay."
Han Xi bent down to wash the foam off her face, and after freshening up, she changed clothes and went downstairs with Lu Jinghan.
After breakfast, Lu Jinghan drove Han Xi to the hospital and returned to the company.
Han Xi had just walked into the hospital with her bag when she saw a crowd gathering in the lobby, with a woman shouting loudly, "My mother died on your operating table, and the hospital must give me an explanation. Otherwise, I’ll sue you in court."
The director rushed over, his anxious voice tinged with impatience, "What is it you want to do?"
"I want you to give me an explanation. My mother was a perfectly fine person, and you killed her. You need to compensate me."
The woman’s voice was loud, but her face showed no trace of grief from losing a loved one.
"I’ve seen people come to hospitals to extort money, but it’s my first time seeing someone extort money so brazenly."
"Her real mother died, yet I’ve never seen her cry, just her eagerness in extorting money."
