Chapter 430

Chapter 430

“Damn it!”

In a dimly lit small room filled with computers and various electronic devices, a young man in his early twenties with slightly curly hair and dark skin sat in front of a computer. He yanked off his headphones, his face darkening as he glanced behind him.

“Jeros’s signal got cut off; he might be dead.”

A woman who had been leaning against the table, eating instant noodles, looked up. She casually set down her noodles, wiped her mouth with her sleeve, and quickly walked over.

“What’s the status of the target now?”

The woman approached the dark-skinned young man, placing one hand on the table as she fixed her gaze on the computer screen.

She had striking red hair, but her looks were rather ordinary, with a few freckles on her face.

The young man quickly tapped on the keyboard and replied, “According to the last message Jeros sent, the target should have already boarded the high-speed train out of Baihe City. Given his special status, he must have taken a designated high-speed train route. I’ve pulled up the latest schedule changes for all high-speed trains in Dragon Kingdom and calculated the target’s path … His destination is likely Jingdu Province, just as we expected.”

The red-haired woman studied the high-speed train route map on the screen, her eyes pausing on several points.

“Two days in total, huh? Looks like we have plenty of time …”

She muttered to herself, then said calmly, “Send me this map. We’ve already got people near Baihe City. If all goes well …”

The red-haired woman returned to her spot, picked up her unfinished instant noodles, and resumed eating.

“We should be able to head back soon.”

“Yes, ma’am!”

A flash of excitement crossed the young man’s face as he placed his hands on the keyboard, his fingers flying over the keys.

“Clatter!”

A small black box fell to the ground, making a crisp sound in the quiet train carriage. Guo Aiying, who was seated nearby, quickly bent down to pick up the box. As she straightened up, she noticed the handsome young man who had been dozing beside her had been startled awake and was now quietly watching her.

“I’m sorry, Sir! I didn’t mean to disturb your rest!”

Guo Aiying stood up abruptly, her face full of nervousness.

Lu Sheng shook his head, stood up casually, and walked over to her. He gently patted her on the shoulder. It felt as though invisible ripples spread from the spot where Lu Sheng touched her.

Guo Aiying shuddered slightly, as if a string in her mind had been plucked.

Buzz—

Her entire body relaxed, the tension and anxiety she had been feeling melting away in an instant.

“Phew—”

She let out a long sigh of relief.

“We’ve still got a long journey ahead. You can’t stay this tense the whole time.”

Lu Sheng spoke softly before walking over to the tea counter, pouring himself a cup of hot water, and sitting back down. He picked up a newspaper and began flipping through it nonchalantly.

“Yes …”

The feeling was so clear that it left her panicked and unsettled.

Guo Aiying glanced at the time and realized she had only dozed off for less than half an hour. She searched for the source of her unease, but everything in the carriage appeared normal.

She looked at the young superior, considering whether she should report her inexplicable anxiety to him.

“But what if it’s just a product of my nerves? Reporting it might make me look foolish and even get me kicked off the train at the next stop …” Guo Aiying was still debating when she glanced out the window.

The sunlight outside was bright but not blinding. The train was passing through a valley, and in the distance, the outlines of several mountains were visible.

Guo Aiying suddenly noticed a black dot appearing in the sky. Curious, she leaned closer to get a better look. The black dot was speeding toward the train, becoming clearer by the second.

“It looks like … something’s flying toward the train …” Guo Aiying stared intently at the black dot. It looked like a black lead ball hurtling toward the high-speed train.

But who could throw a lead ball that far? This isn’t a cartoon …

Guo Aiying found the idea amusing and continued to watch the black dot.

However, as it drew closer, its shape became clearer, and the unease in her heart grew stronger. She stared at the rapidly enlarging black dot, her confusion deepening.

Whoosh!

The black dot sliced through the sky.

Finally, Guo Aiying saw it clearly. It was a thirty-centimeter thick, three-meter-long, pitch-black … Conical missile!

The missile’s tail flames were clearly visible, and it was now hurtling toward her. Guo Aiying’s eyes widened, her pupils contracted, and her face slowly went blank with shock.

Time seemed to stretch infinitely. She watched helplessly as the missile drew closer.

Twenty meters, ten meters, five meters … It was now less than a meter away.

She could even see the white demon head painted on the missile’s body, grinning wickedly at her. Guo Aiying’s emotions reached a breaking point, and she could hear her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to stand up and alert the superior behind her …

At that moment, she finally understood why this mission was classified as SSS Class.

But it was too late. There was nothing Guo Aiying could do. She could only watch as the missile closed in on the train window, the overwhelming sense of dread consuming her, leaving her mind blank…
