Chapter 34 An Old Acquaintance

Fang Guang's brow furrowed. A decision had to be made. The villa before him seemed as if it could only be breached by a tank, and zombies were chasing him from behind.

It was clearly a dead end!

But how could he possibly die with these "good-for-nothings"? Without a moment's hesitation, Fang Guang grabbed Ji Rourou's hand and ran towards the back of the villa, an area not yet surrounded by the undead.

Ji Rourou understood his intention. Without the slightest hesitation, she instinctively followed Fang Guang as he ran.

She shouted, "Hang on a bit longer, we'll go see if there's a back door."

Before her words even fell, they had disappeared.

No one present believed his preposterous claim. No one was a fool; they knew at a glance that Fang Guang intended to escape!

"Fang Guang! Are you even human?"

"Fang Guang! You bastard, don't run!"

"Ji Rourou! Come back! You murderer..."

"..."

More and more people joined in, cursing Fang Guang, but no one dared to leave the iron gate.

Even though they now loathed Fang Guang and Ji Rourou to their core, they knew that once the iron gate before them was breached,

They would all perish!

But no one paid heed to their desperate cries. Fang Guang and Ji Rourou had already fled out of sight.

Xu An, who had been watching the entire scene, now heard something of note from inside the house and scoffed.

"There are so many saints in this era."

She naturally wouldn't concern herself with the farce unfolding outside. Having placed their trust in others, they had to learn to bear the consequences themselves.

They were all adults. In the apocalypse, they still engaged in foolish acts like using their own bodies to block a wall for others.

Even if Xu An saved them, she might not receive gratitude.

These people might even blame Xu An.

"Why did you only come out now?"

"Why didn't you open the door earlier..."

And so on...

Xu Yan picked up the handkerchief by her side and wiped the sweat from the corner of Xu An's forehead.

Xu An's originally stern expression was disturbed by her mother's action. She lowered her head, deep in thought.

To avoid alerting the enemy, they had turned off all their appliances.

Although the house was equipped with the highest-grade soundproofing,

Those people were in the small garden right outside their door. Being too close, it was inevitable that something might go wrong.

Xu An patted her mother's hand, signaling her to stop. She then tiptoed over to Goudan and put cotton booties on him.

Goudan found it hot and started to fuss, struggling and resisting.

Xu An smiled faintly and looked directly at Goudan.

The weak husky suddenly felt its dog life threatened and had no choice but to cooperate, reluctantly putting the booties on its paws.

After finishing, she stealthily led Goudan back to the bed.

Not a single sound was made throughout the entire process.

Xu An took out paper and a pen from her spatial storage. She lightly wrote on the sketchpad.

"Mom, are you hungry?"

Xu Yan shook her head. The wails outside made her anxious, leaving no room for hunger.

Xu An lowered her head and rubbed her stomach. She was hungry.

But she didn't want to compromise herself by eating dry instant food. So, she took a cup of iced milk tea from her spatial storage and began to gulp it down aggrievedly.

Refreshed by the dopamine, Xu An's inner dark side seemed to have faded considerably.

Xu Yan, who had been looking nervous, saw Xu An holding Goudan and drinking milk tea. With this distraction,

Xu Yan's heart-wrenching feeling actually eased considerably.

She pointed to the milk tea in Xu An's hand and then to herself, signaling her.

"Give me a cup too."

Xu An naturally understood her mother's meaning. After searching for a long time in her spatial storage, she found a plain, half-sweet one.

After handing it to her mother, Xu An reminded Xu Yan.

"Absolutely no noise."

Xu Yan nodded quietly, carefully tearing off the plastic wrap, not even daring to insert the straw.

Without the air conditioning or fans running, the temperature in the air began to rise again.

In just a short while,

Mother and daughter were already drenched in sweat.

After sitting for a while, Xu An seemed to suddenly remember something and slapped her forehead.

She inwardly cursed herself for forgetting this. Then, she sank her consciousness into her spatial storage and began to search.

After searching for a long time, she finally found the tablet with the marker on it.

Taking out the tablet, she quickly opened it and accessed the surveillance feed.

That's right, during the renovation, she had specifically installed a pinhole camera on the main door just in case. She had forgotten about it, thinking it wouldn't be needed.

It was only when she was bored sitting there that she remembered.

She specifically muted the tablet before opening the surveillance video feed.

Within the surveillance footage, a thick sense of despair permeated.

At a glance, Xu An decided not to show it to her mother.

She was already accustomed to such bloody scenes.

After some thought, Xu An decided that after the commotion at the door subsided, she would take her mother and Goudan out to "broaden their horizons" and hack at some zombies.

Otherwise, if they were always protected like this, what would happen if she was gone one day?

The zombies furiously battered the iron gate. Many of the people blocking the door were already scratched and bleeding, their pupils beginning to redden slightly.

Yet, they did not give up their struggle. Perhaps it was Fang Guang's betrayal that had stimulated the group's camaraderie.

Apart from the two who had fled earlier, no one else ran. Everyone was desperately blocking the door.

When their wrists lost strength, they used their bodies. When they couldn't stand, they collapsed on the ground...

In short, everyone exerted their full strength, trying their best to block the door.

All for a hope that could not be seen at the end, a struggle in desperation despite knowing it was futile.

But in Xu An's eyes, all of this was merely futile.

Others might not know, but she did.

Becoming a zombie was not only through biting. If one was scratched by a zombie, and the skin broke to reveal blood,

They would eventually turn into a zombie.

Xu An wondered if she herself could achieve such a feat.

She thought for a moment and shook her head. Probably not.

If it were her, at the moment of betrayal, she would go all out to take the other party down with her.

Yes, mutual destruction.

The persistence of these people held no merit in Xu An's eyes except for its foolishness.

Since the others didn't want them to live, then no one should live.

If they directly opened the door, the people who ran ahead would definitely not be able to escape.

The initial outbreak of the zombie tide, because it still retained some human inertia, had the fastest movement capabilities.

However, this was others' choice, and it was others' lives.

Xu An did not wish to comment further. She activated the cameras outside the door one by one, just in time to see a man and a woman climbing over the wall.

Xu An thought, these must be the "traitors" the people outside were shouting about.

It was better not to look, but the moment she did, Xu An started to laugh.

"My goodness, isn't that an old acquaintance?"

In her previous life, she had saved a girl being chased by zombies halfway through her escape.

And that girl was Ji Rourou, who had just climbed over her house wall.

Xu An thought, this is truly a case of narrow roads meeting. Karma comes around!

She hadn't expected that in this life, she had changed her itinerary, and yet she had encountered Ji Rourou here!
