Chapter 21 The Ambush

"Hey!" Bai Ye said, "Where are those guys robbing you?"

Victor gasped, "Highway 403?"

Bai Ye asked, "After they rob you, where is the destination for escorting the supplies?"

Victor replied, "They have bases on both Highway 403 and 404, but their escort point should be the main base at the end of Highway 404."

Bai Ye curiously inquired, "Reason?"

Victor explained, "The base on Highway 403 is near the city ruins, while the base on Highway 404 is at the end of Highway 404. Calculating the distance from where they robbed us, the base at the end of Highway 404 is closer."

Bai Ye suddenly understood, "I see, this way you can intercept them from both ends, and if successful, send the goods to the closer main base. So, how long ago did they rob you?"

Victor replied, "About four or five hours ago. Why are you asking?"

Bai Ye stated, "Although I can't save you, I can help you fulfill your wish to kill those guys."

Victor was stunned for a moment, then exclaimed in surprise, "You're going after the Highway Knights? Are you crazy? You'll die!"

"That's my business," Bai Ye said with a smile, raising his gun and pointing it at Victor, "Do you need my help?"

Victor looked at Bai Ye with piercing eyes, then said, "Please tell them I'm waiting for them in hell."

"Alright!" Bai Ye pulled the trigger and said, "Goodbye!"

With the sound of the gunshot, Victor's body fell backward, his head tilted to the side.

Bai Ye brought an oil drum, siphoned the gasoline from the car, and poured it into the motorcycle. The last bit of gasoline, Bai Ye poured onto Victor's corpse, then lit a lighter and tossed it away.

The jeep quickly caught fire.

In the flames, Bai Ye mounted the motorcycle and rode back towards the highway.

Four or five hours ago...

Bai Ye wasn't entirely sure if he could catch up to the Highway Knights, but since a mission had suddenly appeared, it was definitely achievable. After all, impossible missions didn't exist, so it was up to Bai Ye to seize the opportunity.

Bai Ye didn't overthink it; missions were about doing your best and leaving the rest to fate, and sometimes, luck played a significant role.

And this time...

Bai Ye's luck seemed to be quite good!

Before passing through the Red Rock Mountain area and returning to the highway, Bai Ye saw a convoy driving on the road from a distance.

The convoy wasn't large; in fact, calling it a convoy was an exaggeration, as there were only three vehicles. However, those vehicles had undergone some terrifying modifications.

The leading vehicle was a pickup truck with its doors removed. At the rear, it had two massive metal scythes, a Gatling gun mounted on the roof, and the front bumper was reinforced with two layers, giving it a very sturdy appearance.

The second vehicle was actually made by stacking and welding the shells of two cars. It had giant tires taller than a person, a hollowed-out front shell with an exposed engine, and four blades welded to the front, each at least as thick as an adult's arm. If this thing hit you, there would be no other outcome than the destruction of the vehicle and the death of its occupants.

But the most terrifying was the third vehicle. Those guys had somehow found tank tracks and used scrapped cars as their shells. With eight tires on each side working in conjunction with the tracks, the armament on the roof was even more formidable, with machine guns mounted at each of the four corners.

Simultaneously, the front and rear of the vehicle had gear-like saw blades extending outwards, and the front bumper had been thickened, even equipped with giant conical spikes, each as thick as an adult's thigh.

Only the Highway Knights, led by the Undead, would possess such modified vehicles.

Four or five hours of travel, and he had managed to catch up. It seemed they must have been delayed by something or had stopped for a rest along the way.

However, the reason didn't matter to Bai Ye; what was important was that he had found them.

Bai Ye curled his lips, then accelerated sharply, moving rapidly through the desert, quickly leaving the three vehicles behind.

After about half an hour, Bai Ye had put the three vehicles far behind him. He then stopped his motorcycle, first placing the Frost Sword in the middle of the road, then riding his motorcycle away to hide behind some large rocks in the desert.

Bai Ye knelt on the ground, took out the bipod and high-magnification scope from the rifle case, and attached them to his Aug assault rifle. He then lay flat on the ground, propping up the rifle.

The enemy vehicles had been violently modified, with weapons all over them. Bai Ye only had an old motorcycle, so crashing into them directly would be suicidal. To take them down, he needed to set up an ambush and force their vehicles to stop first.

Using the high-magnification scope, he glanced at the road. The three vehicles were slower than he had expected; their presence was not yet visible.

"Since I have nothing else to do..." Bai Ye suddenly remembered he had one gacha draw left for the day. Since he needed to wait anyway, he decided to bring out the gacha machine and said, "Might as well do a draw."

The gacha machine appeared beside Bai Ye, and with the whirring sound of the machine, a large gacha ball rolled out.

Looking at the gacha ball, Bai Ye was slightly taken aback; it was black.

The rarity of the gacha balls was distinguished by color, starting from white, then green, blue, black, red, and finally gold.

Among these, white, green, and blue were considered low-level gacha balls, while starting from black, they were considered high-level.

This was because the items produced from the gacha balls would have a qualitative leap starting from the black gacha balls.

"As expected, this is my turn for good luck? After so much bad luck, things are bound to get better."

Bai Ye thought to himself as he twisted open the black gacha ball.

Yin Yang Reversal: A profound technique from the supreme martial art Tai Chi, utilizing the body's Yin and Yang energy to create a vortex around the body. The vortex can absorb surrounding flying objects for up to nine seconds, after which the absorbed items can be expelled using the vortex.

Good heavens, it was a martial arts technique!

From its description, it seemed to be about absorbing attacks and then reflecting them, but the specific effects would only be known after use.

However, being a black gacha ball, based on Bai Ye's experience from his previous life, starting from black gacha balls, the only difference was whether they were a rip-off or not. For example, that damned "One More Time" slip had made Bai Ye cry tears of regret.

But when it came to strength, there was almost no doubt; starting from black gacha balls, they were all good things.

And at this moment...

The sound of engines could be heard from afar.

Bai Ye quickly used the high-magnification scope to observe the road.

The three Highway Knight vehicles...

Had arrived!
