Chapter 414: What Matters Most
Wen Nuan’s mother was surprised to see her return alone and dejected. She had thought the storm had passed, but Wen Nuan looked terrible. She went straight to her room without a word.
Her father gave her mother a look, and her mother followed her upstairs.
Wen Nuan was holding the phone charm. Something in her heart felt like it was constricting, almost suffocating her.
Ye Feimo refused to let go, no matter what. What was she going to do?
Her mother came upstairs and saw her staring at the phone charm in a daze. Her heart ached. Wen Nuan put the charm down and smiled. "Mom, is something wrong?"
"How was your talk with Ye Feimo?" her mother asked. She had a good idea of what had happened, but she didn’t know the details.
"Mom, I’m fine. Don’t worry."
"How can I not worry?" her mother said, gently stroking Wen Nuan’s long hair. "As a mother, I shouldn’t try to stop you from making your own decisions. I should support you. But Wen Nuan, you clearly still love him. Why do you insist on getting a divorce?"
"Mom, sometimes a divorce isn’t about a lack of love," Wen Nuan said softly. She had her own worries and didn’t know who to talk to. "Mom, I’ll handle this myself. Please don’t get involved, okay?"
"Wen Nuan, sometimes you should listen to your parents. We would never hurt you," her mother said earnestly, her eyes filled with concern.
Wen Nuan sighed. "Mom, I know you wouldn’t hurt me. It’s just that I need to calm down. I’m just suggesting we take some time apart to think things through. It’s not a definite divorce."
Wen Nuan was saying something she didn’t believe. She did want a divorce.
But Ye Feimo would never agree. She was also hesitant. It was one thing to think about it, and another to actually do it.
Her mother saw that Wen Nuan’s mind was made up and that there was no room for negotiation. She didn’t want to say anything else. Her daughter was a grown woman and could make her own decisions. Just as she was about to go downstairs, Wen Nuan called out to her. "Mom, you wanted to go to Athens for a while, right? Can I come with you?"
Her mother’s face changed slightly, but she managed to stay calm. "I’m going to see a friend. Why would you want to come with me?"
Wen Nuan smiled. "I’ve never heard you mention a friend before. Who is this mysterious person?"
"No one you know. Just a friend I met by chance. We get along well, so I’m going to spend some time with her," her mother said with a smile.
Wen Nuan said, "Mom, I’ve been in a bad mood recently, and I was planning on going abroad to get some fresh air. It’s perfect that you’re going to Athens. Why would you be so heartless as to turn me away?"
Her mother was at a loss for words. Finally, she reluctantly nodded. "Okay. I’ll book the tickets for you. Do you have any problems? What about work?"
"I don’t have any work right now. Don’t worry," Wen Nuan said. "I’ll leave it to you, then."
Her mother nodded and went downstairs absentmindedly.
She couldn’t find a reason to refuse Wen Nuan. Going to Athens together?
Oh, what the heck. She would go. Wen Nuan was in a bad mood, and a trip to Athens might cheer her up. But... her mother’s mind was in a mess.
Wen Nuan’s work had come to a stop. Mo Xiaobai had been on Agent Island for a while and hadn’t been in contact with anyone. When he came back, he heard the news about Ye Feimo and Wen Nuan. He called Ye Feimo, but Ye Feimo hung up after a few words. So Mo Xiaobai called Wen Nuan.
Mo Xiaobai must have heard about everything that had happened. Wen Nuan didn’t say much. Mo Xiaobai was surprisingly understanding. He didn’t lecture her and just told her to follow her heart and not have any regrets.
Wen Nuan was very grateful. The thing that bothered her the most was when people called to ask about her and Ye Feimo. Some celebrities and reporters she had only met a few times and didn’t even know how they got her number would call, pretending to care about her health but really trying to get information about her and Ye Feimo.
It seemed like most of the world was just waiting for them to get a divorce so they could laugh.
Later, Wen Nuan forwarded her calls to Cai Xiaojing and only answered the ones she wanted to. Cai Xiaojing blocked the rest, and she finally had a moment of peace.
She was right to answer Mo Xiaobai’s call. He told her a lot of funny stories about the island. There was a lot of information about the family’s secret branch, including witchcraft. Wen Nuan wondered if Mo Xiaobai knew about the witchcraft.
Dudi had said that this kind of thing was only known to the three families, and outsiders rarely knew about it.
She had always thought it was an unbelievable thing.
After Mo Xiaobai’s words, Wen Nuan was even more confused. Besides mentioning the secret branch, Mo Xiaobai also talked about curses. He was very good at what he said. He didn’t talk about the curse directly, but instead told her some interesting stories about witchcraft and curses. He made it a point to say that not all witchcraft and curses were effective. Some were, and some weren’t. This kind of thing was real if you believed it and fake if you didn’t. There was no need to worry about it too much.
Wen Nuan smiled. Mo Xiaobai was a very perceptive person. He was extremely smart. Dudi also knew about the curse and tried to convince her not to get a divorce, but he wasn’t as clever as Mo Xiaobai.
He indirectly told Wen Nuan that the things in the secret branch were very mysterious, but that some of them shouldn’t be taken seriously. Some curses were not effective, and the one on her might not be either.
He saw her fears and what she cared about the most.
However, he didn’t point it out directly. Instead, he told her in a different way that she didn’t need to be afraid and that this might not even happen.
This kind of way of talking was much more skillful than Dudi’s directness.
Especially for a couple like Ye Feimo and Wen Nuan, who had hurt each other and had many misunderstandings, his way was much easier to accept and much more reassuring.
She wanted to thank Mo Xiaobai for telling her so much.
But she held back.
No wonder Ye Yan from Hollywood was every woman’s dream man. Every girlfriend he had had always defended him. Even in Hollywood, a place full of superstars, he had an excellent reputation.
What woman wouldn’t love a man with such talent, looks, status, and a keen mind? She had always thought it was unbelievable that Mo Yao would fall in love with Mo Xiaobai, but now it made perfect sense.
Ever since she met him, Mo Xiaobai’s way of treating people and handling things had made her feel so at ease.
