Chapter 218: Gold III
Kai knew how his girls felt about their rank, but he never expected them to grind through it like crazy. It didn’t matter what job it was; Kyana and Gwen forced Kai to keep taking on job requests until they reached Gold III.
He tried to stop them, begged them to just take things easier so they could enjoy the process of ranking up without rushing things. But they didn’t listen.
Actually, all five of them surrounded him and got on his ass for starting at the lowest rank and took out their anger on him from that one incident where he forced them to work together for ’Synergy’.
Kai had to admit that he had it coming, but it was still unfortunate that things turned out this way.
Two days. That’s all it took for them to go from Bronze III to Gold III. On the bright side, their license showed their ranks going up. The downside was that they ranked up too quickly. Sure, Kai also ranked up quickly when he was an adventurer and hunter, but he wanted this experience to be different. His girls did not share that same attitude.
"Finally, we can take on actual jobs now." Gwen stared at the job listing board with an enthusiastic smile. She was going through all of them to see which one was the most interesting to choose.
"Gwen, make sure to choose one where we would have to fight!" Amaya was tired of small errands and fetch quests. She wanted some action.
"And make sure the pay is good," Sasha added.
"Now that I’m thinking about it, we would probably have to leave this island for our job, right? I mean, yeah, we were able to do Bronze and Silver rank jobs here, but that’s because those ranks have you do small things. This island is ONLY this town; it’s pretty small. We should head to a larger island to get more work, one that preferably has a city, some towns, and a few villages." Kyana, who also wanted some action, thought that going to a city would be the best course of action. Or at least a larger island.
What they learned over the past few days is that each island has a civilization. Some are still tribes, not engaging with the outside world. They live on the smallest islands in the archipelago. Then you have the village islands, islands where there is only that village, town islands, city islands, and finally, Island hubs with all three of those communities living on it.
These weren’t the correct terms to use, but they just went with it since it was easier to understand. What made things a lot easier as well was that Cities, towns, and villages were named after the island.
Currently, they were on a Town island, so the town was the entire island. It was pretty small, and they wouldn’t get good work here for Gold and higher ranks.
"Yeah, I’ve found a good job we could take. Here, check this out. We’ll be protecting the daughter of a noble and safely escorting her to her destination. It pays well, too, 5 gold coins."
"Ha, I’m so used to just snatching money that I forgot what it was like earning it." Kai laughed.
"We were still doing adventurer work before we joined the academy." Nadya pointed out.
"Ahh, yeah, that’s right."
"So? Are you guys up for it?" Gwen wondered.
"Protecting someone means that there’s another person after them, so this means I can crack some skulls! Hell yeah, I’m up for it!" Amaya drew her sword and started cutting at the air as if she were fighting against ghosts.
"Pay is good, I’m down." Sasha nodded
"It’s better than staying here, so, yeah, let’s do it." Kyana agreed.
Nadya nodded. "I don’t have any problem with this."
"Does it have a location? Like a place we need to meet up at?" Kai asked
"Let me check." Gwen scanned the document. "Yeah, it says we need to be in Coralbane City by...tomorrow morning. That’s the deadline."
"Alright, let’s move out then. Coralbane Island, here we come!"
---
It took them around an hour to arrive at Coralbane Island. Normally, they would have traveled by foot or by carriage, but they would have passed through multiple islands just to arrive at their destination.
So, after checking the map, Kai saw that they could just sail straight to the island by going around all of the islands in their way. This way, it saves them time.
Sure, they all could have just flown there without any effort, but this was more fun. Not for Sasha at least. Kai had forgotten to make the ship feel like land again, and Sasha started vomiting like crazy when they set sail.
"Sorry!" Kai quickly made adjustments to stop Sasha from being seasick.
"T-Thank you."
Coralbane was a beautiful city. It looked similar to Ashenfall, with all of its water interconnectivity and its marble structures. The difference was that Coralbane was surrounded by a huge body of water while Ashenfall was simply a port city.
"This place looks nice. It’s so big and bustling, yet this is also a small island. Sure, it’s bigger than Pearlwind Island, but compared to the other islands on the map, this is still pretty small." Gwen was fascinated by the geography of this new continent. The feeling of experiencing something new was still raging in her body.
"Where’s the rendezvous point?" Kyana asked, looking around.
"It’s at some place called the SeaShell Inn." She responded
"Alright, let’s go find this place." They hopped off the ship and looked around for the inn.
They walked around the city, looking for the place on their own, asking for directions here and there, and ended up at dead ends. They realized that people were making fun of them for not knowing where the inn was, so Kyana changed things up.
She revealed that they were sorcerers, and the attitudes of everyone changed. When someone tried to mess with them again, she formed an arrow of wind to make sure the guy was telling the truth.
Of course, he panicked and led them straight to the inn, hoping they would spare his life.
"Better watch who you’re messing with next time. Not everyone is as kind as we are. Now get out of here!" She kicked him away.
