Chapter 231: Banquet Time!

Chapter 231: Banquet Time!

"Ugh, I’m already uncomfortable. You know, parties were not really my thing. I’m okay with small get-togethers, celebrations, festivals, and even weddings, but a party for the sake of a party, nah, not my thing." Kai leaned back in his chair as he drank some juice from a wineglass.

Gwen sat next to him and leaned on his shoulder as Kai wrapped his arm around her. "Technically, the banquet does have a purpose."

"Yeah, I know, but that purpose is directed at the other tower masters, not the other hundreds of nobles that are attending. They’re coming because they want to listen to the gossip and because they were invited. It would be rude to decline an invitation if you don’t have something very important to do."

"True." She admitted. "But try to have fun. This is also a party for us as well."

Kai sighed. "Yeah, that’s what I don’t like. Now I’ll have to talk to people. You do realize that a part of the reason I wanted to come to this continent was because I didn’t want to be the hero anymore, right? This includes talking to people. Now, I have to talk to people."

"You were also the one who agreed to Elyn’s request." Gwen giggled, poking his cheek."

"Yeah, I admit that was on me. However, the gains outweigh the losses. We have no ties to the blue tower, and all we need to do is wear their insignia on our clothes while we do our mercenary work. Plus, we can use their authority. Those are wins."

"And this banquet is the loss?"

"Yup. But it’s okay, it’s only for one night anyway. I’ll suck it up."

"You look great, by the way. You should dress up more often." Gwen bit her lip at the sight of Kai’s formal attire. While she’s seen Kai wear fancy clothes before, it was never this good. Then again, that was probably because Kai did his own shopping, and for this day, his girls did the shopping for him.

"Thanks. I’ll make sure not to do that." He chuckled.

"Jerk."

"No! The table goes over here by the window, not by the stage! Cups, plates, and utensils go over there. Alcohol will be served in that area, and we have a section for all the ki.ds to roam in. And where are all the chairs? Don’t tell me Carlito took the chairs as well?"

Elyn was running around, trying her best to make due with what she had to prepare for the banquet. She had help from Kai and managed to get a lot of things she normally wouldn’t have been able to get on time, like fancy decorations, the best kinds of liquor, and the best food to serve.

Because she was also trying to keep her image intact, she wanted the banquet to be as good as it could be, making sure everything looked amazing. While she didn’t need to show off, she wanted to.

This would make the public opinion on her change, and people, well, nobles, would think that the Blue Tower was still a powerhouse.

Everyone will already be shocked to see that not only is she okay, but stronger than ever, and sexier. Plus, Kai and his group were her trump cards. Once the others saw that she gained not one, but six Tier-10 sorcerers, they would lose their minds.

"Everything needs to be perfect. I bet those bastards are salivating just thinking about the ways they can extort me and try to take control of the blue tower. Sorry, but that’s not happening."

Elyn didn’t blame the other tower masters for trying to jump on this opportunity. She would do the same thing if this situation happened to the other towers. Everything was a business, and in business, you either destroy your competitor or force them under your control.

Since none of the towers could destroy each other, especially with the royal decree that the king made, they all had to work together until one of them slipped up. In this situation, it was Elyn who slipped up, but it was also she who would make the greatest comeback.

"Mother, people are arriving," Abigail informed her mother.

"Who’s here?" She asked

"None of the tower masters or the major nobles. Barons, merchants, and independent sorcerers are the ones who arrived early."

Elyn nodded. "Take them to the waiting area and give them some snacks and drinks to occupy their time. Also, hand out the gifts Kai prepared for our guests."

"Yes, mother."

To further bolster her image, Kai used his status window to purchase some items for Elyn to use as gifts. For women, he bought all kinds of cosmetics and jewelry. These were of the highest quality as well, akin to his old world. So the women would definitely love it.

For the men, he purchased prop weapons of the highest quality, pendants, and something that all important men like, according to the movies he watched, cigars.

Of course, he also purchased real weapons, staffs, and wands for the torrents and sorcerers, all of them being high quality as well. He knew that the sorcerers and torrents wouldn’t care too much for the other gifts, so these would be the gifts for them.

However, because he would end up spending more points than he wanted, he purchased an item duplication ability to just copy the weapons over and over again. It was genius on his part.

After around thirty minutes, Elyn finished with all of the preparations and put out all the food and drinks for when the party started. Tables were made, and the atmosphere was set. Now, all she needed to do was wait for her guests to arrive.

An hour later, all of her guests started showing up, each of them getting a gift as well, and Abigail greeted them at the entrance.

This was on purpose. If everyone saw Abigail greeting them at the entrance, they would assume that she would be the new person in charge of the tower. This would make those who sympathized with the blue tower really sad, and those who didn’t really happy.

But once they walked inside the tower, they would be met by the person they least expected, fully healthy and more beautiful than ever.
