Chapter 316: Off limits
Edna shivered to no perceivable end, biting at what remained of her nails sometimes while just sobbing some other times.
How could it be? How could she, of all people, end up like that? Thrown and forgotten in the dungeons in such a disgraceful manner!
Even dead that wench still caused her problems... How could she have been so careless? So stupid with her words in front of the Lady?
Everything would have turned out fine if she’d just kept her story straight. If she’d just kept calm when pressed for answers.
What was she going to become? What was her punishment going to be?
Not only Arabella was dead, but Kathrine was on that path as well... That was if Silas hadn’t ripped her apart just yet. The blonde hated the fact that no news reached her down there.
Only the cold draught and the harsh stoney ground kept her company.
The clacking of shoes began hitting the walls, echoing shyly at first but then growing stronger and bolder the closer they walked.
Her entire body tensed as she gathered herself and curled further against the wall behind her.
Minutes that felt like hours later, a figure appeared through the bars, in front of her.
At her sight, Edna recoiled even further, as far as the cell walls allowed it. Allegra’s features weren’t twisted. On the contrary they were sealed in place.
No emotion transpired through the vampiress as she glared down at the former maid.
"Are... Are you supposed to be down here?" Edna tried to keep a steady voice, but the stammering and cracks betrayed her.
"The audacity you have is quite impressive. Has anyone ever told you that?" Allegra’s tone was as sharp as the jagged edges of dry ice.
"I am innocent!" she spat, "Unless you’ll carry this message to the Lady then I have nothing else to say to anyone," Edna brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs before burying her face in them.
"Keep telling yourself that,"
All of the confidence instantly melted off Edna’s bones when a clicking sound announcing the unlocking of her cell door reached her ears.
Her hands hugged the wall, pressing on it as though trying to push it back in order to create more distance between herself and Allegra.
The vampiress made sure to close the door behind herself before turning all of her attention on the blonde.
"What do you think you are doing? What do you want?" every syllable in her questions quivered along with her body.
"From you?" Allegra scoffed, towering over her, "Don’t worry, I know there is nothing that you can give me," she tilted her head to the side, "You’ve always been nothing but a taker, never giving back or am I wrong?"
"Get away from me!" Edna’s back glided along the surface of the wall to move further from Allegra, "You are insane! I didn’t do anything!" she squeaked.
"Really?" Allegra wasn’t having it, "You didn’t," she half asked, a crazed grin on her, "In your eyes, nothing from what you’ve done was wrong?"
"Please," when anger did not yield, Edna turned to pleading, "I really didn’t do anything to hurt you," tears flowed down her cheeks.
"But you tried to hurt my sister, didn’t you?" the vampiress crouched to Edna’s eye level once the latter was cornered, "You wanted Katherine gone," she nodded to her own words.
"No!" Edna sobbed, shaking her head profusely, "I meant her no harm!"
"Tell me something, Edna," the unhinged grin wouldn’t leave Allegra’s features, "You would sell your own mother to reach your heart’s desire, wouldn’t you?"
"No! I would never dream to-"
Without any warning, the vampiress grabbed Edna by the collar and picked her up with a scary amount of ease.
Her feet dangled above the floor as her ocean blue eyes met Allegra’s at her full height.
"No! You can’t do this!" Edna screamed, "Help! Somebody, help me!"
"Oh, you can scream all you want. No one will hear you,"
Those words shut Edna up in a heartbeat.
"I made sure your voice would reach no one, no matter how close to us they stand," Allegra spat through gritted teeth.
Edna was forced to close her eyes as Allegra’s breath hit her in the face.
"You’re not the only one who has close ties to witches," Allegra nodded slowly, "Some of them owe me some and would do anything to settle their debts with me,"
"I am sorry!" Edna’s arms and legs thrashed to no avail, "I am sorry! I never meant to hurt Katherine, I swear! She was simply in the way!"
"My first plan was to drain you but then I wondered how the Master managed to drink blood as bitter as yours. He must’ve suffered the whole time," she hissed.
Edna hated every word coming out of the vampiress’s mouth but kept her tongue still. Sharing her honest thoughts on the matter would do nothing but aggravate her already dire situation.
"I will do anything you want! Miss Allegra, please!’ she begged.
"I think I was clear on this," she brought the blonde even closer to her, "There is nothing in this world you can give me that would make me forgive or forget your doings," she shook her head slowly, "You’ve crossed the wrong line, you stupid girl. Everything else could have been fair game. I would have looked the other way,"
Edna’s brows furrowed at those words...
"Anything else would have been fine, but you had to go for Katherine, didn’t you?" Allegra gave her one good shake, "I told them already! I didn’t care what they did with the rest, but my sisters were off limits!" her growl reverberated throughout the entire dungeons.
"Wait! Who do you speak of?" Edna tried. A look of realization flashed across Edna’s horrified eyes, "Do you mean... You... You...," she fumbled.
"Don’t worry yourself with that," Allegra declared with a shiver inducing smile on her lips, "We are done with you anyways,"
No further words were exchanged between them after that.
