Chapter 1621: Chapter 1621: I Hope You Astound Everyone
Early the next morning, when Luo Ziling woke up, he saw Shanque and Lin Lan sitting in the living room.
Originally thinking the two women would leave quietly in the middle of the night, he didn’t expect them to still be there.
“What, waiting to say goodbye?” Luo Ziling asked Lin Lan and Shanque, who were dressed casually, with a smile, “Looking at your outfits, it doesn’t seem like you’re planning to go out.”
“Plans have changed,” Lin Lan said expressionlessly, looking at Luo Ziling, “I’ll accompany you to today’s events.”
This surprised Luo Ziling a bit, but he was also quite delighted.
“Ha, I thought I wouldn’t have a beauty by my side today and would be overshadowed by Ishihara Naka. Didn’t expect I would have a beautiful companion to flaunt for half a day,” Luo Ziling said a few strange sentences and then smiled broadly, “Let’s go have breakfast first then, aren’t you all hungry? Hehe, having you accompany me for breakfast is a good thing.”
“Why do you speak so randomly?” Shanque gave Luo Ziling a glance, “Quickly fulfill your boyfriend duties.”
“How should I fulfill them?”
“Hold her hand and walk, carry her bag.”
“Alright,” Luo Ziling nodded, truly helping Lin Lan carry her bag and then held her hand.
Lin Lan instantly looked awkward, glared at Shanque, but ultimately did not refuse.
As Luo Ziling held Lin Lan’s hand preparing to leave the room, he curiously asked Shanque, “What about you?”
“I’ll go with you, being a third wheel behind, and show my face. So next time when I appear, others won’t look surprised,” Shanque picked up her bag, smiled, and followed, “I’ll just be a big light bulb once and put up with it.”
“What’s the activity today?” Shanque asked Luo Ziling as they left the room.
She hadn’t paid attention to the delegation’s activities because these weren’t her concern.
Luo Ziling pulled out the itinerary, glanced at it, and told Shanque, “Today’s meeting is at eight-thirty, approximately an hour, then visiting the School of Medicine, University of Tokyo. There should be an exchange event in the academy. In the afternoon is a visit to the affiliated hospital, where several famous experts in traditional medicine will give lectures. Let me see who they arranged, two from the Japanese side, two from our side. Well, there’s no mention of my name.”
“When do we leave then?” Shanque asked Lin Lan.
“We’ll decide later,” Lin Lan said softly, “Let’s talk after attending the exchange activities.”
“You’re so free?” Luo Ziling appeared very surprised.
“Last night’s matter and its aftermath are still upon us,” Shanque explained for Lin Lan, “In fact, our schedule today is still focusing on you!”
Luo Ziling thought for a moment and sort of understood the situation: “Phoenix came as well?”
Neither woman answered, but Luo Ziling already understood the answer.
“That’s good,” Luo Ziling had already guessed that Lin Lan and Shanque initially planned to leave last night, but received new orders from Phoenix, so they stayed to accompany him.
Luo Ziling couldn’t inquire why Phoenix changed their plans. Even if he asked Phoenix, she certainly wouldn’t say, let alone Lin Lan and Shanque. He didn’t ask further and cheerfully went to the restaurant with Lin Lan and Shanque for breakfast.
All the activities planned for today were notified the previous night; members of the delegation, who were mostly older, sleep early and wake up early.
Many people woke up at around six in local time, which was equivalent to a little past five back home, doing morning exercises in their rooms or strolling in the hotel’s garden. They had early breakfast, and when Luo Ziling, Lin Lan, and Shanque went down together, there were only a few people left in the restaurant eating.
Due to Luo Ziling’s impressive performance yesterday, plus his handsome looks, along with a strikingly beautiful girlfriend, he quickly became a star figure in the delegation. Others greeted him when they saw him.
Luo Ziling hadn’t recognized everyone in the delegation, so he could only smile politely in return, without further communication.
Seeing Wu Mingyun still having breakfast, Luo Ziling took his breakfast and sat down next to him.
Wu Mingyun was having breakfast with several familiar friends, and he smiled upon seeing Luo Ziling come over.
Sitting back-to-back, Luo Ziling sat down, and Wu Mingyun turned his head, smiling and asked, “What did Commander Hu and Commander Wang say when they approached you yesterday?”
“Dean Wu should have guessed,” Luo Ziling smiled awkwardly, “They said I was too conspicuous and advised me to be more reserved.”
“That’s typical of them; whoever’s in charge wouldn’t want to cause issues,” Wu Mingyun lowered his voice, “However, you did things many were afraid to do, successfully countering the Japanese arrogance, which is a good thing. From yesterday’s reaction, the Japanese side weren’t angry; rather, they valued you more. That’s possibly the fault of their national character— the more assertive you are, the more they respect you.”
“I understand what you mean, Dean,” Luo Ziling chuckled, realizing clearly the implied meaning of Wu Mingyun’s words.
“I didn’t say anything,” Wu Mingyun gave a meaningful smile, “There’s another thing: originally you weren’t scheduled to speak, but last night, I strongly suggested to several leaders that you should be given a platform. They’re considering it.”
“Guess they don’t want me to make any fiery statements,” Luo Ziling smiled, “I understand their concern.”
“If they haven’t scheduled it, try to get a chance to speak, not necessarily delivering a speech, like during the last traditional medicine annual convention,” Wu Mingyun said this in a lower voice, not intending for other breakfast companions to overhear.
Luo Ziling nodded, indicating he understood Wu Mingyun’s intention.
Actually, Wu Mingyun’s administrative level isn’t low; being the principal of Yan University likely gives him vice ministerial treatment. Initially, the dean of the Yan University Medical School that merged with Yanjing Medical University is a bit lower than a principal, possibly having proper hall-level status. The delegation leader Hu Wenjun held a position in the National Health Commission Deputy, also with vice ministerial level. The gap between the two isn’t significant; although Wu Mingyun didn’t hold a position in the delegation, his words carried considerable weight. Also, Luo Ziling admired Wu Mingyun’s character; therefore, he immediately listened to his advice.
At this moment, Hu Wenjun and Wang Rongshan also entered the dining hall together.
Seeing Luo Ziling and Lin Lan, and Shanque sitting there, they greeted them, took their meals, and then sat at their table.
Each table could accommodate six people, Wu Mingyun’s table was full, whereas Luo Ziling’s had three people, Hu Wenjun and Wang Rongshan joined them.
After sitting down, Hu Wenjun lowered his voice and informed Luo Ziling of a new decision: “It’s been decided that today’s morning exchange meeting will feature your speech, and you’ll appear as the successor of the Taiyi Divine Needle. Please prepare well.”
Since Wu Mingyun had mentioned it earlier, Luo Ziling wasn’t surprised, he just lightly nodded, “Alright, I’ll prepare.”
“Hope you make a great impression.” Wang Rongshan also chimed in.
“Certainly!”
