The air in the secret cave was cool, smelling of damp earth and moss. The dawn light filtered through the curtain of vines hiding the entrance, painting the interior with soft shades of gray and green. It was their sanctuary, a place born of necessity that had become the heart of their strange and powerful alliance.
Sakura and Hinata were already there when he arrived. Hinata sat on a rock, her hands clasped in her lap, her face serene despite the tension hanging in the air. Sakura stood with her arms crossed, leaning against the cave wall. Her posture was a mixture of impatience and a worry she couldn't quite hide.
Naruto appeared at the entrance, his silhouette framed against the morning light. He was carrying his travel backpack; not the one for short missions, but the larger one, the one that signaled a long absence. The mere sight of it confirmed their fears. His departure was imminent.
"So it's true," Sakura said, her voice breaking the silence. There was no reproach in it, only a resignation tinged with annoyance. "You're really leaving on that stupid training mission for your perverted jutsu."
Naruto scratched the back of his neck with a clumsy smile, a gesture so familiar it hurt a little.
"Hey, it's not stupid! It's a top-tier strategic technique! Kakashi-sensei said my potential in that field is limitless, believe it!"
The joke hung in the air but failed to dispel the solemnity of the moment. Hinata offered him a soft smile, though her hands clenched tighter.
"Naruto-kun, please, be careful."
Naruto's smile softened, losing its usual boundless energy and transforming into something more genuine, more vulnerable. He walked over and sat on the ground in front of them, setting his backpack aside.
"Listen," he began, and his tone made both girls give him their full attention. "While I'm gone, you two are the heart of the team. Sasuke… he's going to be a pain, we know that. He'll be furious, feel like we've left him behind. He needs something to hold onto so he doesn't drift away. And that's you two."
His gaze landed on Sakura first, intense and direct.
"Sakura-chan, you're the strategist. Your brain is the sharpest weapon we have. Don't let his anger blind you. Always think two steps ahead of him, of our enemies, of everyone. Your logic is what will keep us safe."
Then, he turned to Hinata, and his expression softened even more.
"Hinata-chan, you're the eyes. Your Byakugan is our advantage, our only real defense against the unexpected. Don't let anything surprise you. Watch, analyze, and warn. Trust each other more than anyone else in the world. More than Kakashi-sensei, more than me. Because when things get ugly, you'll only have each other."
A silence fell. Naruto's words weren't those of a teammate; they were those of a leader handing over command.
"We're not just going to sit around and wait for you to come back," Sakura said, a new firmness in her voice. "We're going to train. When you get back, we'll be so strong you'll regret ever underestimating us."
Naruto grinned, a smile of pure pride.
"I know. And that's why, one last time."
He took out his notebook and a pencil. The gesture was already a ritual. There was no awkwardness, no shame. It was an act of trust, a transfer of power. Hinata approached first, turning her back to him and lifting her shirt without a hint of hesitation. Her movements were practical, those of a soldier preparing for battle.
Naruto placed his finger on her back. The blue interface flooded his vision, familiar and cold. He quickly jotted in his notebook, tore out the page, and handed it to Hinata.
"No changes," he murmured as his eyes scanned the data he was transcribing. "Your Level 2 base stats are the same. But your control… it's more stable. The energy flows without any spikes. You're mastering it. Here's everything."
HINATA HYUGA - Level: 2
BASIC ABILITIES (INVISIBLE BASE LEVEL 1):
STRENGTH: G-205
ENDURANCE: G-230
DEXTERITY: F-378
AGILITY: F-395
MAGIC: F-310
BASIC ABILITIES (LEVEL 2):
STRENGTH: H-110
ENDURANCE: H-125
DEXTERITY: G-280
AGILITY: G-295
MAGIC: F-350
ACQUIRED ABILITIES:
Lioness Heart: Active burst ability. Activates with the will to protect an ally. Temporarily increases all abilities exceptionally, and the effect is amplified in proportion to the importance of the target being protected.
Byakugan - Predictive Vision: Passive/Active ability. The base effect (passive) grants near 360° vision, the ability to see through objects, and to perceive the chakra circulatory system and tenketsu. The evolved effect (active) allows her, by focusing chakra into her eyes, to predict an enemy's next physical action a fraction of a second before it occurs.
Flowing Step: Passive ability. Reduces stamina consumption when performing evasive maneuvers and makes her movements instinctively harder to predict in combat.
Dance of the Trembling Willow: Active burst ability. Allows her to enter a state of maximum concentration where her Flowing Step accelerates to almost imperceptible levels. Enables her to unleash a flurry of up to thirty-two Gentle Fist strikes in a matter of seconds.
ACQUIRED MAGIC:
Hyuga Lunar Barrier: Allows the user to shape their chakra into a nearly invisible defensive barrier. It can deflect physical attacks and low-level jutsu. The barrier's strength and duration are directly dependent on the Magic statistic.
"Your new ability, the ‘Hyuga Lunar Barrier,’ needs practice. Focus on the barrier's resilience, not its size. A small, unbreakable shield is better than a giant wall of glass. This is your baseline. I want you to memorize it. Every time you train, think about these numbers. Think about how to make them go up."
Hinata took the paper with trembling hands, nodding. Then it was Sakura's turn. She stepped forward, and the process was repeated with the same solemnity.
"Same for you, Sakura-chan. Your power is explosive, but your control is what makes it lethal. Don't just focus on brute force. Focus on precision. Every thread, every strike, has to have a purpose."
Naruto handed her the sheet with her data.
SAKURA HARUNO - Level: 2
BASIC ABILITIES (INVISIBLE BASE LEVEL 1):
STRENGTH: E-498
ENDURANCE: G-215
DEXTERITY: F-360
AGILITY: G-245
MAGIC: E-455
BASIC ABILITIES (LEVEL 2):
STRENGTH: H-105
ENDURANCE: H-130
DEXTERITY: F-380
AGILITY: H-150
MAGIC: E-410
ACQUIRED ABILITIES:
Analytical Eye: Active focus ability. Allows the user to perceive logical fallacies and inconsistencies in the flow of chakra. Can reveal an enemy's defensive weak point or the nature of a genjutsu.
Acquired Magic: Chakra Weaving: Allows the user to materialize their chakra into fine, tangible threads. The threads are nearly invisible and can be used to create subtle traps, feel vibrations, or manipulate small objects from a distance.
Chakra Enhancement: Impact: Active focus ability. Allows the user to channel chakra and their perfect control into a single point (fists or feet) at the moment of impact, converting the Magic statistic into explosive and devastating physical force.
Taijutsu: Anatomical Impact: Active focus ability. Allows the user, through an almost instinctive knowledge of anatomy, to identify and strike an opponent's non-chakra-related weak points (nerves, tendons, pressure points).
Chakra Regeneration Technique: Active focus ability. Allows the user to channel their chakra with medical precision to accelerate the healing of minor wounds in others. It is an intuitive application of chakra control to stimulate cellular regeneration.
"The ‘Anatomical Impact’ technique is useless if you don't know exactly where to strike. And the ‘Chakra Regeneration’… use it. Use it on scrapes, on bruises. Learn to feel the chakra of others through it. It will become your best diagnostic tool."
As he did this, a silent monologue ran through his mind.
Their Level 2 base stats are already impressive… Sakura's Strength is E-rank, that's insane. And Hinata's Agility is F-rank. They're getting incredibly strong. They're going to be fine. They have to be.
When he finished, he stood up. The air in the cave seemed to grow heavier. The moment of farewell had arrived.
Naruto approached Hinata first. She looked up at him, her pearly eyes filled with a worry that needed no words. He said nothing. He simply wrapped her in a hug, strong and comforting. It surprised her, but only for an instant. She returned it, burying her face in the crook of his shoulder, holding on to him.
"Take good care of yourself, okay?" he whispered in her ear, his voice a murmur only she could hear.
He released her gently and turned to Sakura. She was watching him with a complex expression, a mix of defiance, concern, and something else, something she didn't dare to name.
"And you…" he began, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
He hugged her too, with the same strength, the same unexpected warmth. Sakura tensed for a second, then relaxed, allowing herself for a moment to feel the comfort of the contact.
"…don't miss me too much, alright, Sakura-chan?"
She pushed him away slightly. A deep blush covered her cheeks, but her green eyes shone with a fierce determination.
"Idiot! As if I'll have time for that! You'd better come back in one piece, or I swear I'll come find you and drag you back by your ears!"
Naruto laughed, a genuine, liberating sound.
"It's a promise."
He gave them one last look, a look that took in both of them, filled with trust and a blind faith. Then, he turned, slung the backpack over his shoulder, and without looking back, ran toward the forest, disappearing into the shadows of the trees.
The two kunoichi remained silent in the cave, listening to the echo of his footsteps fade away. The promise of his return hung between them, as tangible as the cold stone that surrounded them. Their mission had just begun.

The next morning, training ground seven felt strangely empty. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, but the absence of Naruto's boisterous energy was a deafening silence. Kakashi arrived, late as always and with his book in hand, but this time his usual lazy demeanor couldn't hide the seriousness in his single visible eye.
"Naruto left yesterday," he announced, without preamble. His voice was flat, informative. "His solo survival training mission has officially begun. He'll be gone for an indefinite amount of time."
Sakura nodded, her face a mask of practiced calm. Sasuke, who had been leaning against a tree, straightened up. His voice was a low, dangerous growl.
"A survival training mission… alone? And he left without saying anything?"
His gaze locked onto Sakura, sharp and accusing.
"You knew. Yesterday, when he left. You don't seem surprised."
Sakura held his gaze, and for the first time, there was no hesitation in her. Her newfound firmness, forged in the fire of battle and the trust of her secret team, wouldn't let her back down.
"Naruto makes his own decisions, Sasuke-kun. Just like you do."
The tension between them was a thread about to snap. Kakashi intervened, his neutral tone acting as a buffer.
"And as a team, we must respect that. Now, about the exams… the registration is clear. Three-person teams are required."
The mention of the exams was like throwing fuel on the fire of Sasuke's fury. A bitter smile crept onto his face.
"So? Are we withdrawing? Or are you going to tell me the Hyuga girl is his replacement?"
"No," Kakashi said with a maddening calm. "Hinata is with her own team. The rules allow for exceptions in special cases, when a team demonstrates exceptional capability despite a numerical disadvantage. But they're incredibly rare. You'll enter the exams as a two-person team. The disadvantage will be… considerable."
"Disadvantage…" Sasuke repeated, the word an insult on his lips. "Understood."
He turned and began walking to the far end of the training ground, his back to them. The message was clear: to him, they no longer existed.

In another training ground, the atmosphere couldn't have been more different. The air vibrated with enthusiastic barks and the sound of clashing kunai. Kurenai watched with a proud smile as Hinata moved with a fluidity that still took her breath away.
"Come on, Hinata!" Kiba yelled, with Akamaru barking on his head. "Show me that move you used in the Land of Waves! Akamaru and I are ready!"
Hinata dodged one of Kiba's charges with a simple turn, her movement so economical she barely seemed to have tried.
"Your control has improved exponentially, Hinata," Kurenai said, approaching. "But don't push yourself. Are you okay? You've seemed a little distracted since you got back."
Hinata offered a serene smile, though her eyes instinctively drifted in the direction of Team 7's training ground.
"I'm fine, Kurenai-sensei. Just… thinking about the exams. And hoping a friend does well on his mission."
Kurenai nodded, understanding.
"The bond you've all formed is strong. It's natural for you to be concerned. Show me something. Attack that post."
Hinata approached the training post. She closed her eyes for an instant, and when she opened them, her gaze was like steel. She lunged forward and executed a shortened version of her "Dance of the Trembling Willow." Her hands became a blur, striking the post with a succession of impacts so rapid they sounded like a single thunderclap. The post shuddered, and the top section, where she had concentrated her blows, splintered into dozens of wood fibers.
Kiba whistled, impressed.
"Incredible! That was even faster than last time!"
Shino, who had remained silent, adjusting his glasses, finally spoke. His voice, as always, was a logical analysis.
"Your concern is logical. The absence of a key member can unbalance the dynamic of any team. The reason is that trust is a fundamental pillar. Without it, the strongest structure collapses."
Hinata nodded, a shadow of worry crossing her face. She knew that trust was exactly what Team 7 was lacking right now. And she feared that, without Naruto to hold them together, the structure was already crumbling.

The Uchiha compound was a ghost. The silence in its empty streets was a constant reminder of everything Sasuke had lost. But now, that silence also echoed his new humiliation. Being part of a two-person team was a public disgrace, a declaration that they were incomplete, that they were weak.
Frustration was his only fuel. He spent hours training to the point of exhaustion, his body covered in sweat and bruises, each blow against the training posts a silent scream of rage.
A two-person team… They see us as weak. As incomplete. And all because that loser decided to run away. No. He didn't run. He was sent. Kakashi, Naruto, Sakura, the Hyuga… they're all in on it. They're hiding something from me. They think I'm not strong enough. They're underestimating me.
The thought was a poison running through his veins, feeding a cold fire within him.
"Your anger makes you strong, Sasuke, but it also makes you predictable."
Kakashi's voice sounded from behind him. Sasuke didn't turn. They had just finished a training spar, one in which Kakashi had defeated him with insulting ease.
"You telegraph every move. That rage… it's a light that blinds you. You can't see your opponent, you only see your own frustration."
"Shut up!" Sasuke hissed, lunging again.
Kakashi's taijutsu was like water, flowing around the rock of Sasuke's fury. He didn't use overwhelming force, but superior experience, deflecting every blow, using Sasuke's own momentum against him.
"Is that all the Uchiha genius has? Rage? My grandmother has more creative attacks," Kakashi said, dodging a high kick.
The rage, fueled by defeat and the frustration of the secret, finally exploded. Sasuke's chakra swirled around him, a visible wave of dark power. He shot toward Kakashi in a final, desperate attack, a blur of speed and fury.
Kakashi dodged it, but for the first time, he saw something new in Sasuke's eyes. Something had changed.
The exchange was an instant, a clash of wills. On the verge of collapsing from exhaustion, Sasuke felt a burning in his eyes, a sensation he had never experienced before. The world seemed to slow down, Kakashi's movements becoming clearer, more predictable. He saw the trajectory of his sensei's next blow, a simple hand chop to unbalance him, but his exhausted body couldn't react in time.
He stumbled and fell to his knees, panting. The fight was over. But something had been born in that defeat.
"So, it's finally opened," Kakashi said, his tone calm.
Sasuke raised a kunai, his hand trembling from the effort. He saw his own reflection in the polished blade. And there it was.
Spinning slowly in his pupil, a blood-red smudge with a single black comma. The first tomoe of the Sharingan.
A cold smile, devoid of all joy, lit up his face. The pain, the exhaustion, the humiliation… it all vanished, replaced by a new and terrible clarity.
"Good," he whispered to himself, his voice a hiss in the silence of the Uchiha compound. "If the secret to their strength is teamwork… mine will be a power that needs no one."
Loneliness was no longer a burden. It had become his weapon. And at last, he felt he had found the way to sharpen it.
