Chapter 286 A Fleeting Life in Darkness

In the men's restroom of C City No. 7 High School.

Jun Jiuli felt a chill and soreness all over her body.

A girl was cowering in the corner of the restroom, hugging her head and trembling all over.

Her hair was messy, there were slap marks on her face, and there were bruises on her exposed skin.

"Child, come here."

She looked up with a bit of panic, her eyes filled with fear. Jun Jiuli directly pulled her into her arms. The girl was a little stunned. She had never felt such pure kindness before.

Just then, footsteps approached from outside. Jun Jiuli, with the child, successfully flipped into another stall.

Yang Yunliang laughed heartily as he forcefully poured a basin of dirty water into the stall where Jun Jiuli had been.

He opened the stall door, intending to see Jun Jiuli's miserable state, but froze when he saw no one inside, then his eyes instantly blazed with fury.

Thinking that the poor girl dared to run, he vowed to make her pay next time. Jun Jiuli directly kicked his lower back with force.

Yang Yunliang felt as if he heard his bones snap. The pain made him let out a pig-like scream.

His balance faltered, and he fell forward, his face accurately hitting the porcelain partition in the stall. He lost a front tooth, and blood began to ooze from his nose.

Dragging him like a dead dog to the small sink used for mopping, she buried his head in it and pinned his head down with her foot, preventing him from moving.

No matter how much Yang Yunliang struggled, it was useless. A great sense of panic surged through him. The approaching feeling of death made a thousand thoughts flash through his mind.

He felt no regret for how he had treated Zhao Chunyan. He only regretted being too careless today and not bringing anyone with him.

He secretly vowed that once he recovered, he would make Zhao Chunyan repay him a hundredfold. Anyway, her father didn't love her, her mother didn't care, and she had no one to support her.

He could bully her however he wanted, and the police couldn't do anything to him. At most, they would issue a warning, and his family would have to pay some compensation.

He felt reassured and kept telling himself that he would be fine. However, the physical pain and torment made him never want to go through it a second time.

In less than two minutes, the man fainted. Jun Jiuli directly dragged him outside and kicked him fiercely, sending him rolling down the stairs.

Shui Wa: "That fall looked painful even to me. Serves him right! Such scum, such trash of society."

Having done all this, Jun Jiuli took the little girl and headed towards the home she remembered.

She remained silent all the way, not even daring to breathe too loudly. She followed Jun Jiuli slowly, not daring to get too close.

Jun Jiuli tried to hold her hand several times, but the girl would shyly avoid it. Her eyes were moist as she looked at Jun Jiuli, filled with fear and inferiority.

Jun Jiuli didn't rush her. After walking for half an hour, they arrived at the doorstep. After knocking for a long time, Wang Ermei, grumbling, came to open the door with a child in her arms.

"Why didn't you just die on the road? You finished school at 5:30 and didn't get home until 8. Are there so many fun things on the way? Don't you know you should come home earlier to help with chores? You're so ignorant, useless, and a waste of food."

The little girl lowered her head further, hesitating and not daring to move. Another voice came from inside the house.

"Why are you yelling so loudly?"

The little girl happily raised her head. Before she could even manage a smile, the old woman continued:

"Aren't you afraid of outsiders hearing? You silly woman. What if you disturb my precious darling? She's just a money-losing good-for-nothing. Bring her inside; you can scold her however you want."

The light in the little girl's eyes instantly vanished, and she lowered her head again. Wang Ermei came forward, intending to grab Jun Jiuli, muttering all the while.

"Hurry up and put down your schoolbag, wash the clothes first, then eat."

Jun Jiuli avoided her hand and led the little girl into the house. This little girl was the owner of this body, Zhao Chunyan.

By this time, she had figured out the situation. The girl was truly unlucky, having never encountered anything good.

Shui Wa: "I thought her grandmother was a good person, but it turns out they're all the same."

Jun Jiuli: "If she were truly good, she wouldn't have raised a son who favors males and a daughter-in-law who speaks like this."

"The original host didn't want to recall those sad memories, and many memories were sealed. I'm having some trouble reading them. Host, you can do it."

"Mhm, mhm."

This house had 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, 1 kitchen, and 1 bathroom. The old lady had one room, Wang Ermei and her husband had another, and clearly, there was no space for the original host.

A cardboard box was placed on the balcony, containing an old quilt. It seemed the original host usually slept on the sofa.

The cloth shoes she wore were worn out. The black cloth upper was covered in fuzz. The padded jacket she wore had torn seams, and her pants were thin school uniform trousers.

When the wind blew, it was so cold she shivered. The original host had stayed in the restroom for so long that her hands and face were frozen and bruised.

There were red, swollen slap marks on her face. These two women clearly saw everything, yet no one showed any concern.

Seeing that she wasn't saying a word, Wang Ermei immediately got energized. She placed her precious son on the sofa, rolled up her sleeves, and prepared to hit her.

Old Mrs. Zhao came over, cradled her precious grandson, and went into her room, ignoring the ensuing drama.

"You troublemaker, you useless good-for-nothing. I spent money to send you to school, but you didn't study properly. After starting junior high, your grades plummeted. You don't listen to anything, but you insist on provoking others. Are you dumbfounded from being hit? You can't even utter a word after so long. How could I have given birth to such a useless daughter? I'll teach you a lesson today."

Zhao Chunyan, terrified by her fierce demeanor, closed her eyes and began to tremble uncontrollably.

After a while, not hearing Jun Jiuli's screams, she opened her eyes and observed quietly.

Jun Jiuli skillfully dodged Wang Ermei's hand. Enraged, Wang Ermei found a hanger and held it.

Jun Jiuli led her around the dining table for a while. Wang Ermei was panting unevenly, likely from anger and exertion.

With one misstep, she tripped over the chair leg and fell to the ground, unable to get up for a long time, continuously spitting curses.

Jun Jiuli walked to Zhao Chunyan's side and gently stroked her head.

"Don't be afraid. Sister will protect you. You must also learn to protect yourself, so no one will dare to bully you in the future."

Zhao Chunyan nodded vigorously. Although the person groaning in pain was her mother, she felt no sadness in her heart. Instead, she felt a sense of relief.

This big sister's hand was so warm. If she had her by her side, she would surely be able to live well.

"We need to learn to fight back appropriately. Sometimes we also need to use acting to protect ourselves. When you encounter problems that you absolutely cannot solve, call the police. Don't blame yourself or be afraid of everything that happens. You need to know that you are not wrong."

Zhao Chunyan said timidly, "Am I really not wrong? But why do they only bully me? Is it because I've done something wrong, and even Mom dislikes me? Isn't a mother supposed to be an angel to a child? How can a mother not love her own child? Sister, am I too bad? Is that why this is happening."

Before Jun Jiuli could say anything, she lowered her head first. Tears streamed down her face, and her hands tightly clutched the edges of her clothes.

She said timidly, "I'm sorry. I talked too much."

"Not everyone deserves to be a parent. Since they chose to give birth to you, they should be responsible. You had no choice in this matter, so there is absolutely nothing wrong with you; you just encountered bad people."

"Thank you."
