Chapter 103: Helen and Vivian

Chapter 103: Helen and Vivian

Helen drove into Yohan’s neighborhood and parked right in front of his house.

"Just call me if you need me," she said with a small smile.

"Okay..." Yohan replied, stepping out and shutting the door.

The house loomed before him, heavy with expectation. Inside, his Aunt and Cassie would be waiting—waiting for answers. And after last night, they would definitely have questions. They might even be blaming him for everything.

Suddenly, he felt soft hands interlock with his.

"Do you want me to come with you?" Helen asked. She could easily guess why Yohan was hesitating.

"No, no—I was just preparing myself. You should head to work," he said.

"I should at least say hi to your Aunt, especially if we’re going to be one big family."

"Huh?"

"I’ve already met your uncle, but I never got the chance to ask for his blessing..."

Her hand slid to his back, then lower, grabbing his ass as she leaned in close. Her voice dropped, sultry and almost sounding threatening.

"I want us to get married as soon as possible, so we can start making babies."

The warm air of her whisper against his skin made Yohan shiver.

"H-Helen you can’t tell my Aunt anything about us... not yet,"

"Why not?" She asked with a brief frown, "I have no plans of hiding what we have with each other,"

"M-me neither... It’s just that... I don’t want us moving too fast," he said, frantically scrambling for an excuse.

Actually it wasn’t really an excuse since he did believe they were moving too fast, but the main reason was that he didn’t want anything that could disrupt things with his Aunt.

Inside the house Vivian stood behind a curtain, staring at Yohan and the female police officer.

She first heard the car park and was wondering what was a nice car like that doing in front of her house, only to see Yohan step out.

She watched as the woman got close to Yohan before they started walking towards the house. It looked like they both knew each other well.

She sighed, her mind going back to the thought that has been on her mind since woke up.

’How could he do such a thing?’ she wondered.

After she and Cassie heard the news of her husband getting arrested, Cassie was heartbroken but she was simply just angry.

She refused to even go down to the station and had been waiting for Yohan to return so she could hear the full story.

"Maybe that’s why the police officer is here" she thought out loud.

Vivian’s decision not to rush down to the station that morning had made Cassie furious—so furious that they had a heated argument and she went to see her father on her own.

But Cassie could never truly understand what Vivian was going through. Vivian knew the truth, her husband was more than capable of doing something like that. Cassie, on the other hand, was blinded by the simple fact that he was her father.

Now that he was gone, Vivian didn’t want to waste her days agonizing over the situation. Instead, she resolved to push harder, to do whatever it would take to provide for herself and her daughter in his absence.

There was a knock at the front door, and Vivian went to open it.

"A-Auntie, good morning," Yohan said awkwardly.

"Good morning," she replied, her tone distant.

Yohan could tell the news had taken a heavy toll on her. The faint, dried trails of tears still marked her cheeks.

"Good morning, ma’am," Helen said politely. "My name is Helen. I’m the Deputy Inspector at the station where your husband was taken... and I’m also a friend of Yohan’s."

"Oh. In that case, please come inside." Vivian tried to force a smile.

They sat in the living room while Vivian went to the kitchen to prepare coffee.

"Why did you mention that last part?!" Yohan hissed in a whisper.

"Because you told me not to say anything about us just yet..."

"But then you said we were friends?"

"Isn’t it better this way...?"

To Yohan, calling themselves "friends" felt almost like a confession that something more was going on. He sighed.

’Well, it doesn’t matter anymore’

Just then his Aunt returned, carrying the cups. She handed them over and sank into her seat.

"Yohan," she asked the moment her body touched the cushion, "what really happened with your uncle?"

"Ma’am, I instructed one of my officers to call you and explain everything," Helen said.

"I know. I got the call. But I still want to hear it from Yohan."

"Okay..." Yohan agreed, recounting the whole incident from the night before.

Vivian’s expression remained indifferent all the way through, until the very end.

"So, you went to the massage parlour immediately after you got the call?" she asked.

"Yes, I did," he nodded.

"Then how come you both arrived at the same time?" Her eyes shifted to Helen, then back to Yohan.

Yohan exhaled. There was no point in lying.

"Because... we were together before it happened."

Vivian’s brows lifted ever so slightly. "You two... were together?"

Her gaze flicked over Helen. Even though the uniform covered most of her figure, Vivian could still see how beautiful—how undeniably attractive—the woman was. But to think she would be involved with Yohan...

Yohan was a bit unsettled by the fact that Vivian reacted more strongly to this revelation than she had when he spoke about her husband.

’But I can’t blame her’ he thought. ’Who wouldn’t be shocked at something like this?’

"Ma’am, I can confirm everything Yohan just said..."

"You don’t have to keep calling me ma’am," Vivian interrupted. "You can call me Vivian."

"Vivian..." Helen repeated softly, her eyes shining as though she heard something else, "Are you... giving us your blessings?"

"What?" Vivian blinked in confusion.

Yohan cut in quickly, "She meant... blessing for the coffee. Helen is a very religious woman."

"That’s right," Helen nodded, snapping back to her senses. She could tell by Yohan’s stiff expression that he wasn’t pleased with her slip. Still, she saw this as her chance to make a good impression on her future family, so she had to try her best.

"You should also just call me Helen from now on. After all, we—"

"Helen, don’t you have to get to work?" Yohan interrupted sharply, tiny beads of sweat already gathering on his face.

"Yes, I should probably start going. It was nice meeting you Vivian," she said before getting up and leaving

Yohan followed after her, walking her to her car.
