Chapter 1059: Chapter 28: Divination Shadows
The warm and bright morning sunlight streamed into the hall, with tiny dust particles floating leisurely.
The students were surprised to find that although the New Year’s decorations were cleared away at midnight, the old professor’s sunshine idea was preserved.
Fudote rushed in, regaining her elegance and pride as she entered the hall, lifting her chin as her peripheral vision caught the dark-haired figure basking in the sunlight, sitting in the usual seat.
“That’s just my cousin.”
“What?”
Quietly eating, Lu Li’s black eyes slightly moved.
“The one who danced with me…” Fudote struggled to maintain her pride.
Lu Li’s dark eyes became silent again, quietly chewing food.
Fudote asked the earliest arrival, Mendy, “What’s wrong with Lu Li?”
“Seems like he hasn’t fully woken up yet,” Mendy was in good spirits. The New Year’s Eve dinner’s food was impeccable in both texture and taste, “I feel the same when I’m too sleepy.”
“Lu Li is not like you,” Fudote couldn’t hide her disdain for Mendy.
She didn’t know that Mendy wasn’t wrong.
Lu Li was still under the influence of the Dream Elixir, or rather the side effects.
Everything that happened around him after waking up gave Lu Li a surreal and unreal feeling. It was as if he was still asleep in a dream and hadn’t woken up.
Maybe it was the side effect of the Dream Elixir, or maybe Lu Li’s abrupt awakening hadn’t let the effects wear off.
It wasn’t until the end of the first Mysticism Course that Lu Li, under Professor Hagrid’s worry, regained a faint trace of thought.
The 1st-level Inner World trial originally scheduled for today was temporarily put on hold, and apart from the necessary courses, Lu Li spent most of his time in the dormitory reading books.
A day that could be described as bewildering passed, and that night Lu Li fell into a deep chaotic dream.
When the new day arrived, Lu Li regained his sanity, no longer in a daze, and had never been so clear-headed.
And the knowledge he learned yesterday was imprinted completely in his mind.
Thus, over the next two days, Lu Li successively passed the 1st-level trials in Weird Knowledge Study and Botany.
Now, only the 1st-level Divination Study trial remained for the last 2 credits needed to advance to the middle grade, but he wasn’t quite ready for Divination Study yet.
“Meditation… perception… the answer emerges in the mind…”
In the dim void, the low murmur of the nameless lady sounded by his ears.
“Your will traverses the void… your eyes perceive the truth behind the cards… whispers echo the answer by your ears… your hand writes the truth…”
The dim blue candle dimmed, and the light of the oil lamp gradually brightened, making the Divination Study classroom bright again.
“Let me see… Mondo… Rafael… Oh, seven little guys didn’t write anything.” The nameless lady turned to other students. “Lalu… correct; Vasili… hmm… of course correct; Mendy? Your handwriting is getting worse… let your hand practice writing… Fudote… you are talented, aren’t you…”
“And then it’s our Mr. Lu Li… unfortunately, you’re wrong again.”
Apparently, the Divination Study, which requires perceptive thinking and a talent for inspiration, did not extend its blessing wings to Lu Li.
Lu Li couldn’t afford to waste too much time on the 1st-level Divination Study.
He needed a special way.
The next day in the Divination class, Lu Li sat in the lecture hall, seemingly as usual, except for a book-shaped piece on the table.
Today’s Divination class was still about guessing Tarot Cards. In the dim blue candlelight, the face of the ghostly pale nameless lady flipped out Tarot Cards, guiding the students into a state of meditation.
“The answer emerges in your mind… your will traverses the void… your eyes perceive the truth behind the cards… whispers echo the answer by your ears…”
Between the guiding words of the nameless lady, a voice pierced through the mist-like void, whispered around Lu Li’s ears.
“The Hanged Man…”
“…your hand writes the truth…”
Bright light replaced the darkness, and Lu Li wrote down the answer “The Hanged Man” on the Parchment, putting down the feather pen.
He observed around, not finding that silhouette he thought of day and night, silently picking up the Doomsday Apocalypse.
The nameless lady continued with her commentary, reaching Lu Li: “… Mr. Lu Li… you succeeded… by chance or inevitably, the answer will be revealed tomorrow…”
Afterwards at lunch, Lu Li appeared in the hall with a stack of Tarot Cards.
Lu Li needed Mendy to help him practice Divination.
“He only wants to eat, let me help you instead.” Fudote glared at Mendy, who was about to say something, and flipped out a Tarot Card face down.
In the curious gazes around, Lu Li put down the Doomsday Apocalypse, closed his eyes to immerse in inspiration.
The clamor faded away, and void enveloped the world.
“The Tower…”
A whisper pierced through the mist, echoing from afar.
“The Tower,” Lu Li stated calmly.
“That’s right, now the next one.”
The flip of the card and the clamor faded again, Lu Li listened quietly… hearing the lost whisper arising: “Wheel of Fortune… where are you?”
“The Wheel of Fortune.”
“Correct again, do you want to continue?”
“Continue.”
In the all-encompassing void, the whisper gradually rose.
“The Hermit… continue… continue…”
Lu Li gradually frowned as the voice seemed to get closer…
He opened his eyes at this moment, the void faded, and the bright sunlight cast shadows between tables and chairs.
“It’s ‘Observer,’ you should stop.” Fudote’s lips slightly pursed, watching the bloodshot edge emerging in Lu Li’s black pupils.
Because relying on low Sanity Value for inspiration, Lu Li slightly fell into the negative state known as [Observer] in Divination Study, and if he continued, his body might be temporarily possessed by certain existences…
These disappeared when Lu Li picked up the Doomsday Apocalypse, although the inspiration also vanished.
The next day at noon, Lu Li confirmed the nameless lady’s words: whether by chance or inevitably, the answer would be revealed tomorrow.
In the 1st-level Divination Study trial, only Lu Li and a freckled girl named Vasili participated.
Labeled by the nameless lady as talented, Vasili was surprised to see Lu Li here, waving at him.
Lu Li nodded in response, sitting in his seat.
The cold Gatekeeper handed out the Parchment exam paper, largely similar to other 1st-level trials, requiring only theoretical knowledge.
Only the last question changed: a Tarot Card back was printed on the Parchment.
[Divine its face]
Lu Li took out the Doomsday Apocalypse, relaxed his hand, and closed his eyes.
Sensing… listening… touching.
“Death…”
The whisper surrounded by a cold breath rapidly approached.
Lu Li suddenly opened his eyes, holding the Doomsday Apocalypse, and the coldness brought from the void quickly dissipated.
For a short time, Lu Li was not suitable for further divination, but there was no need. Writing down the answer on the Parchment, Lu Li left the Divination Study classroom.
A few minutes later, on the perimeter of the rest area, Lu Li knocked on the door of the Mysticology office.
“Professor Hagrid.”
Behind the door, Professor Hagrid had a complex feeling full of emotion and excitement.
“I know why you’re here… Can you give us some time to discuss?”
