Chapter 54 Midnight Shadow

"So, so good... so good, good, good... yes!"

The Grand Elder was so happy he could barely speak. He had been worried sick moments ago, and now joy had descended upon him like a celestial gift.

"Congratulations, Fifth Junior Brother," Li Tianjue said, looking at Bai Qi. A flicker of intense joy crossed his eyes before his gaze unconsciously shifted back to Su Luo, lingering there for a long time.

Bai Qi's lips trembled, his eyes glistening. A pearl-like tear slid down his delicate face.

The Grand Elder could no longer suppress his elation. He dashed out into the courtyard, waving his arms and exclaiming, "Hey! Great news! Do you know? Qi'er is better, he can cultivate now!"

Everyone was excited for a long while before they managed to control their overwhelming joy.

Bai Qi was immensely grateful to Su Luo, his face flushing. "Little Junior Sister, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I fear I would have already..."

"Fifth Senior Brother, don't say such polite things. Getting better quickly is the wish of all of us."

Su Luo carefully explained further, advising Bai Qi to take nourishing tonics and eat multiple small meals throughout the day. His body was now improving and he no longer needed to stay in bed all the time. He could move around, but should avoid walking too far.

The next dose of medicine would be in about three months, and the required spirit herbs would need to be gathered by then.

Everyone, including the elders, patted their chests and guaranteed that they would procure all the spirit herbs Bai Qi needed, leaving Su Luo to simply prescribe the medicine.

Looking at the third prescription she had just written, Su Luo glanced at Li Tianjue.

There were twenty-five kinds of spirit herbs in total. While most were grown in Qingxu Heaven, five of them needed to be purchased from other pharmacies in Yuxu City. Each was extremely valuable, and not necessarily available.

The road to earning money was long and arduous.

Bai Qi, of course, was unaware of these concerns. He was solely interested in his newly awakened fire element talent. He proceeded to refine three more spirit herbs, filling the ground with ash and residue. The Third Elder, heartbroken, promised to diligently teach him the art of alchemy before Bai Qi reluctantly stopped.

"Little Junior Sister, what medicine did you give Fifth Junior Brother? Can I have a bowl too?"

Lu Jixing was envious and eager, wishing he too could suddenly possess such an ability, allowing him to refine top-tier poisons.

Su Luo couldn't help but chuckle. "Third Senior Brother, while alchemy and poison crafting are somewhat similar, there are many subtle differences. It's not the same thing. Besides, Fifth Senior Brother already has an excellent fire element talent, which was incidentally stimulated by the medicinal effects. If you were to take that bowl of medicine..."

"Heh heh, you'd already be kicking the bucket!" Chu Tianshu chimed in, then burst into laughter.

"Go away, go away, I don't have time for you," Lu Jixing said dejectedly.

The others chatted with Bai Qi for a while longer, urging him to rest well, before they finally departed.

Su Luo returned to Feihong Residence, and Li Tianjue silently followed her in.

"The prescription you just wrote, I calculated it, and it will cost at least sixty to seventy million," Li Tianjue said, his brow furrowed. He didn't seem as nonchalant and at ease as he had been in front of everyone, and his tone carried a distinct weight.

He pondered for a moment before saying, "Su Luo, you just manage the internal needs of the sect. I will find a way to cover the tens of millions needed for Fifth Junior Brother's medicine. Elder Six still owes you twenty million for the spirit herbs; I will repay that to you slowly as well."

Su Luo raised her eyebrows, a hint of displeasure in her voice. "Senior Brother, do you think you're the only one who cares about Fifth Junior Brother? You don't need to repay that money; it's my gesture of goodwill."

Although she was usually lazy, she willingly earned money to cure her Fifth Junior Brother.

Fifth Junior Brother was like an immortal; how could she bear to see him remain ill!

"Besides, I earn money much faster than you. If you go hunt demonic cultivators, it would take at least a month or two to earn tens of millions, right? I'm different. A trip to Yuxu City brings in tens of millions. Am I very capable?"

Su Luo blinked, a touch of smugness in her expression.

Li Tianjue looked at her expressionlessly. "Su Luo, you're quite something! Next time, don't cause any trouble, and don't use Qingxu Heaven's reputation. No one will clean up your messes for you. I've accompanied you once; from now on, it's up to you."

With that, he turned and left, leaving only a cool, distant back.

That man, always so stingy!

Su Luo pouted. Was she really that weak, needing him for everything?

She was just too lazy to act.

Lounging on the couch with its soft cushions, Su Luo temporarily set aside thoughts of earning money. While eating sweet, refreshing fruits, she happily wondered what to have for dinner.

Even though a lot of money had been spent, she still had over ten million left. Rewarding herself wasn't too much, was it?

She was tired of braised ribs and pan-fried prawns. She might as well eat the eggs laid by the Five-Colored Peacock later. It had laid one yesterday, weighing a full two jin. She was already looking forward to it; these were the eggs of a sixth-grade spirit bird.

She'd call Xiao Guo and Xiao Bai to share them later...

Blissful!

After a sumptuous meal, it was almost dark.

Su Luo saw everyone off, then had the two servants clean up. After washing herself, she sat on the couch and cultivated for a while before pondering the matter of earning money.

She vaguely recalled Jiang Muxue saying there were many ways to earn money, as long as one had the ability.

Unfortunately, she didn't have any powerful spirit pets, otherwise, she could have gone to the Sky Dome Beast Arena and dominated.

"The guardian divine beast of Qingxu Heaven, the Dragon Hound. If only it were my divine pet... taking it to the beast arena would surely make me invincible and my wealth roll in, hahahaha..."

After laughing for a moment, Su Luo's head drooped dejectedly.

This was the guardian divine beast; how could it possibly go to such a dingy place with her to fight a bunch of low-tier spirit pets?

Never mind, she'd think of another way.

Just as Su Luo was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a faint sound in the courtyard.

It wasn't the servants attending to her; she was familiar with their footsteps, and they should be resting by now.

Su Luo vigilantly stared at the tightly closed main door.

Could it be another spy? Or perhaps someone from the demonic sect came to rescue someone and decided to eliminate her too?

With a flick of her finger, Su Luo extinguished the candle on the table.

She tiptoed off the couch and quickly went to the door, then yanked it open... revealing a dark figure sneaking around the courtyard, peering about. Upon seeing the door open, the figure stiffened, turned, and ran.

"Stop!"

Su Luo shouted and chased after him.

The shadow moved with extreme speed, like a ghost, vanishing several feet away in the blink of an eye.

Su Luo pursued relentlessly, following him through the winding paths lined with flowers and trees. After a short chase, she realized the shadow was extremely familiar with Qingxu Heaven's terrain, nearly losing her several times.

There was no doubt about it; it had to be another spy lurking in Qingxu Heaven!

Swish!

Su Luo unleashed an attack, aiming for the shadow's back. He seemed to sense it, soaring into the sky and darting like lightning into a large patch of dense foliage ahead, disappearing from sight.

"Huh? Where did he go?"

Su Luo searched everywhere but heard no more sounds. She only saw a serene, small courtyard appear before her.

The corner of her lips curled upwards.

Hmph, he thought he could hide and she wouldn't find him?

Without further thought, Su Luo leaped onto the wall and gracefully jumped down. As she was about to survey the surroundings, she suddenly saw the same shadow again, heading towards a dark house in front.
