Chapter 214: Chapter 118: Unwilling to See Him
Rebecca Quentin saw the ice pillow and towel placed by the bedside, "Was it... you taking care of me here?"
Howard Geoffrey didn’t answer, instead, he took out a thermometer from the drawer and measured Rebecca Quentin’s temperature.
A warm wave surged in Rebecca Quentin’s chest...
She never thought he would show up, let alone thoughtfully help her take her temperature at this moment.
"Why are you here?"
Howard Geoffrey still didn’t answer, instead, he asked sternly, "With such a high fever, and you didn’t come to the hospital for the doctor to observe you at all times, do you not care about your body and the child?"
Rebecca Quentin froze for a moment, "I thought I could tough it out..."
"You think your body is fine?"
"But..."
"Don’t argue with me." Howard Geoffrey growled, sounding frustrated.
After not seeing each other for so long, and being scolded upon meeting, Rebecca Quentin mumbled, "I’m fine now, you can go. I have doctors and nurses here to take care of me."
"I’ll leave naturally once your condition stabilizes."
Rebecca Quentin didn’t say more.
The ward fell into silence.
Suddenly, Rebecca Quentin cried out in pain, "Ah!"
"What’s wrong?" Howard Geoffrey sat nervously by the bed, his face turning pale.
Rebecca Quentin looked embarrassed, "The baby kicked me in the stomach..."
Howard Geoffrey paused, hoarsely asked, "Does it hurt?"
"Not too much, it’s just sudden and unexpected."
Howard Geoffrey suddenly lowered his head, pressing his ear against Rebecca Quentin’s belly—
"What are you doing?" Rebecca Quentin was startled.
Howard Geoffrey answered earnestly, "I want to hear the baby’s voice."
Hearing this, a sour feeling surged up in Rebecca Quentin’s heart, and to cover her emotions, she replied calmly, "You can’t hear anything."
Howard Geoffrey listened for a long time, so long that she almost thought he was going to fall asleep on her belly, before he excitedly lifted his head and said, "He talked to me."
Knowing Howard Geoffrey was lying, Rebecca Quentin still cooperated and asked, "What did you hear?"
Howard Geoffrey smiled mysteriously, "I heard him call me daddy."
"Really?" The sourness crept up her throat, and Rebecca Quentin’s voice carried an uncontrollable slight choke.
"You don’t believe?"
Rebecca Quentin shook her head.
Howard Geoffrey suddenly cupped her face, leaned down, and kissed her before she could avoid it.
Completely unprepared, Rebecca Quentin couldn’t react for a moment.
When they were together, he rarely kissed her like this; even if he did, it was filled with desire, never this pure.
And kisses like this seemed to have happened several times already...
The deep kiss continued as she hadn’t fully regained her strength to resist until the duty nurse knocked and came in, and then he abruptly let her go.
At dawn, Christine Quinn brought porridge she had cooked to the hospital.
Rebecca Quentin, whose fever had subsided, seemed to have a good appetite and quickly finished the porridge Christine brought.
"Good, if you can be like this every day, I won’t worry about you."
Rebecca Quentin smiled guiltily, "Sorry for making you worry so much."
Christine Quinn gave Rebecca Quentin a side-eye, "Once you have the child, I’ll have more to worry about... after all, I’m your sister."
"Uh, sis, he..."
Knowing what Rebecca Quentin wanted to ask, Christine Quinn quickly answered, "I notified him, and he rushed over from New York overnight."
"Overnight?"
Rebecca Quentin was slightly shocked.
It seemed so, judging by the timing, he must have come overnight...
This means, for her, he hadn’t slept in two nights.
Understandably moved, Christine Quinn didn’t dare mention Alice Robinson answering the phone to Rebecca Quentin, hoping her mood would improve.
"Oh, sis, did you see him when you came?" He still accompanied her in the latter half of the night, allowing her to sleep soundly, and when she woke up, he was no longer in the ward, so she asked now.
Christine Quinn nodded, "Yes."
"Where is he?"
"He went back to New York!!"
"Back to New York?" Obvious disappointment was written on Rebecca Quentin’s face; she hadn’t expected him to leave so hastily.
Christine Quinn noticed Rebecca Quentin’s expression, sighed lightly, "He’s engaged now, with the wedding approaching, naturally he’s very busy."
Rebecca Quentin slowly lowered her head, suddenly lifted her eyes, and asked, "Sis, can I borrow your phone?"
"Sure."
Realizing Rebecca Quentin might want some quiet time alone, Christine Quinn packed the thermos and left the ward.
