Chapter 199: Chapter 110: She Always Knows How to Get on His Nerves
"You leave first!" Howard Geoffrey’s hawk-like eyes stared at Rebecca Quentin, but he was speaking to the nurse.
The nurse, as if being rescued, immediately retreated.
Howard Geoffrey closed the door and walked up to Rebecca Quentin.
"I can’t afford the hospital bills, I want to be discharged!" Rebecca Quentin said calmly, having no choice but to face him now and accept the reality.
She admitted she was summoning the courage to speak to him, but God knows how panicked she was at this moment.
Howard Geoffrey’s dark gaze lingered on her pale face, his expression complex and difficult to decipher, and the slight furrow in his brow seemed to be suppressing something.
"In a hurry? You’re bold enough to carry a child behind my back, but afraid to see me now?" His tone was cold, mingled with anger.
"The child has nothing to do with you!"
Howard Geoffrey’s lips curled with a cynical smile, "Without my effort, where did the child come from?"
"You..." Shameless and despicable!
Howard Geoffrey wasn’t particularly angry. Though his face was indifferent, his tone softened a little, "Lie down properly on the bed now, once the IV is done, we can talk!"
"I have nothing to say to you." Rebecca Quentin’s tone was entirely unkind.
"But I have a lot to say to you."
Rebecca Quentin lost her patience, "What exactly do you want?"
Howard Geoffrey gently held her shoulder, speaking with a tone both gentle and dangerous, "Since you chose to keep this child, you must have known that I would come looking for you sooner or later."
"I told you, this child has nothing to do with you, I will be responsible for raising him!" In the face of Howard Geoffrey’s calm demeanor, Rebecca Quentin could not maintain her composure.
She said these words not out of anger or self-pity, but to clarify to him that she had decided rationally to keep the child.
He didn’t need to be responsible; the child was also an accident for him, and it was she who chose to keep the child.
Howard Geoffrey looked down at her, seemingly surprised by her calmness when discussing the child.
After scrutinizing her for a moment, Howard Geoffrey coldly smiled, "And you think you can raise a child by yourself?"
"I can earn money, I’m not useless." Rebecca Quentin defiantly met his questioning gaze, "Though you are the child’s father, I won’t blame you. After all, you were so cautious before, the child came as a surprise! I didn’t intend to tell you because I knew that if you found out, you’d make the same choice as me, which would be going to the hospital to terminate the pregnancy. I don’t want to lie to you, at first, I never planned on keeping the child. I went to the hospital twice; the first surgery didn’t happen, and the second time, the doctor told me that if I terminated this pregnancy, the possibility of me getting pregnant again would be very low. I still want to get married; I can’t forgo having children for my future husband for the rest of my life...so, you can pretend you know nothing, I promise you, I won’t let the child know who his father is."
Rebecca Quentin lowered her eyelids, recounting these words as calmly as she could.
Howard Geoffrey stared at her darkly, silent for a long while.
I still want to get married; I can’t forgo having children for my future husband for the rest of my life...
This sentence echoed in his mind, inexplicably stirring his anger, yet his face remained expressionless.
Rebecca Quentin smiled bitterly, "You should go, I know you’re busy, don’t waste your time here."
Howard Geoffrey let her finish speaking and then slowly retorted, "Which hospital is so incompetent that they have to keep the child to preserve your health?"
For a moment, Rebecca Quentin didn’t understand the underlying meaning of Howard Geoffrey’s words.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean taking you to the most prestigious hospital in the US for another check-up. I believe they can terminate the pregnancy without harming your health." He admitted that with her, he often lost composure and self-control.
Rebecca Quentin stared at him blankly, his words echoing in her mind...
Terminate the pregnancy...
Terminate the pregnancy...
Terminate the pregnancy...
Rebecca Quentin shook her head, murmuring, "No, the child belongs to two people; you don’t have the right to decide unilaterally."
She knew the existence of this child would affect his future to some extent, but she had already told him she wouldn’t let the child know who he was.
"You know the child belongs to two people, so how could you hide it from me and not tell me about this?!"
He was eliciting this response from her, so was he serious or just testing when he mentioned terminating the pregnancy?
"Anyway, you don’t care, so why can’t you pretend you know nothing?!"
"There’s no reason not to care once I know about it." Howard Geoffrey glanced at her swollen belly, and his anger returned to his face.
Rebecca Quentin stared at him blankly, her heart filled with bitterness, "What exactly do you want?"
In his presence, even the strongest facade could be shattered by him.
His cold expression twisted her heart into a knot, filled with immense fear.
"Hiding this from me is simply unforgivable!!" Howard Geoffrey’s tone intensified, cruelly spitting out.
After days of bearing the mental and physical strain of pregnancy and now facing his ruthless indifference, Rebecca Quentin finally lost control, her eyes reddening, tears quickly pooling and sliding from the corners of her eyes, and she sat dazedly on the edge of the bed.
"No crying!"
She rarely shed tears in front of him, he thought she would always be so noble and proud, but now seeing the tears on her cheeks, he seemed to panic.
"I said no crying, did you hear me?" His voice turned into a roar, Howard Geoffrey’s usually stern face seemed like it was provoked.
God knows how much she wanted to suppress her emotions at this moment, but she couldn’t control it because her heart truly hurt.
"Damn it..."
An inexplicable restlessness welled in his heart, Howard Geoffrey cursed but couldn’t stop her.
"Didn’t you hear what I said?" Howard Geoffrey sat beside her, his voice hoarse and clearly repressed.
Howard Geoffrey’s words had no effect on Rebecca Quentin. She cradled her belly defensively against him, tears flowing like a spring.
Howard Geoffrey’s face turned a shade of green because of her actions.
"Are you so afraid of me?"
Rebecca Quentin just cried, without responding to him.
Howard Geoffrey reached out to pull her close.
But Rebecca Quentin shifted away, showing an air of detachment.
Seeing her put distance between them, Howard Geoffrey grew more agitated, "Come here!" His face was tense, ordering her coldly.
Rebecca Quentin didn’t comply, remaining still.
