Chapter 227: Chapter 124: The Child Is His—Given the Surname "Geoffrey" (Part 2)

Alice sulkily blurted out, "Yeah, because you never came to find me."

Howard’s expression turned somber.

Alice seemed oblivious to the change in Howard’s mood and explained coquettishly, "Oh, I didn’t mean it like that. You know my brother works at the hospital. I went to see him yesterday, and while I was there, I had a gynecological check-up. Who knew the news would explode today, claiming I’m two months pregnant? I’m also surprised where this news came from."

There was a sly glint in Howard’s eyes, but the corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he calmly said, "How have you been these days?"

On the other end, Alice was aggrieved, "Not good, not good at all."

"What happened?"

"It’s daddy’s fault. He won’t let me come to you, and you won’t come to explain to him." Alice said, feeling very wronged.

Howard frowned, "Do you think we still have a chance?"

"Why not? I’m not going to marry anyone but you in this lifetime."

"You don’t mind about Rebecca and me?"

"I do mind, of course I do. But I know it’s in the past between you two. I don’t need to compete with an opponent who’s no longer a threat, so I can pretend the news of her having your child never happened, as long as we can continue being together."

"I’ll go see your father."

"Really?" Alice was ecstatic.

Howard murmured a response and abruptly ended the call.

Jason spoke up, "Boss, Miss Robinson she..."

Howard glanced at his subordinate, "What?"

Jason mustered up courage and awkwardly said, "Is it possible that she’s pregnant?"

Howard’s handsome face turned grim.

Jason quickly explained, "Boss, I didn’t mean to pry into your private life. I’m just worried that if the old lady sees this news..." If the old lady knows Miss Alice is pregnant, it will be trouble!

Howard nodded slightly, "You head back to New York and handle this."

"Yes."

Staying in a hotel was torture for someone like Howard, who always had high standards for quality of life.

Thus, tossing and turning until midnight, Howard finally couldn’t bear it any longer, sat up, went to the chair by the window, picked up a lighter, and lit a cigarette.

The flickering blue flame of the lighter highlighted Howard’s slightly impatient handsome face.

It’s been so long since he’s had a good night’s sleep...

Ever since being apart from her.

He didn’t know when it started, but without her by his side, he couldn’t sleep peacefully.

During those late-night hours, when he reached out to embrace something, it was met with emptiness.

For so many years, he never thought of a woman like this, yet after she appeared in his life, he repeatedly made such foolish gestures.

During those four years of divorce, he knew she lived painfully, but did she know he had it just as bad?

He remembers the time she took the initiative to hug him, unbuttoning her top for a million dollars right in front of him; she’d never know that if she dared unbutton another one, he wouldn’t have let her go...

"Damn it!!"

Frustrated, he extinguished the cigarette in the ashtray, his dark eyes gazed at the empty bed, and Howard abruptly pulled out his phone, opening the video of the surveillance from her side.

What is she doing now?

The video was loading, and a few seconds later it opened.

Inside the room, it wasn’t completely dark. Perhaps to care for the child, she left a small night light on.

The warm yellow light made the room look especially cozy. She was sleeping on her side, seemingly holding the child.

He enlarged the video, focusing finally on her flawless face.

Even as the mother of a child, her sleeping face still looked so innocent, like a child’s untainted and naive.

Without him by her side, she actually slept so peacefully?

Has she truly stopped caring?

No, he didn’t believe it... even if she did, he wouldn’t allow it!!

It was time to end this insomnia pain...

If he wanted to be alone with her, some unnecessary obstacles needed to disappear.

Since Jason was sent to New York, Howard had to drive himself to the sister’s place early in the morning.

Howard chose the time well when Christine had gone to work. Restless all night, he was in a bit of a hurry, so he skipped the courtesy of knocking and directly pulled out the key to open the door.

But who would have thought, the door that could still be opened yesterday, today had already been changed the locks.

Unable to open it, Howard cursed under his breath and tossed the key aside.

Does this woman really think he can’t deal with her?

Taking out his phone, Howard dialed a number.

Inside the house, Rebecca was tidying up the living room when she suddenly heard her phone ringing.

Rebecca walked over, seeing the number displayed on the screen, smiled and pressed the answer button, "Dr. Green."

"Hello, Miss Quentin, I’m calling on behalf of the hospital... just now Mr. Geoffrey called us. He wants to amend the birth certificate of the child."

"Amend?"

"Yes, Mr. Geoffrey said the child’s name needs to be changed to ’Andrew Geoffrey.’"

Rebecca was instantly furious, "How can he do that?"

"I’m sorry, Miss Quentin, Mr. Geoffrey knows our dean very well, and the dean he..."

"Dr. Green, please tell the dean, please do not change the name on the child’s birth certificate. I will negotiate with Mr. Geoffrey myself."

"Okay."

"Thank you."

Ending the call, Rebecca bit her lip in annoyance.

How can he do this?

The custody of the child is hers, and the child’s name should be decided by her. She won’t allow the child to take his surname; who does he think he is, amending it?

Furiously, she picked up her phone and dialed the number she still remembered, patiently waiting for the phone to connect.

Unexpectedly, the call was quickly answered, but he was waiting for her to speak first.

"Where are you?" Rebecca asked acrimoniously.

"Back in New York."

"How could you just return to New York?"

Howard leaned against the car, his eyes leisurely gazing forward, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly, "What, you miss me?"

Rebecca’s face flushed, "I have something to discuss with you."

Howard feigned ignorance, "What is it?"

"About the amendment of the birth certificate."

"I’m very busy now, don’t have time to discuss it with you."

"I’ll just take a few minutes of your time."

"Aren’t you sick of even speaking one more word with me?"
