Chapter 237: Chapter 129: Geoffrey Acts Shamelessly (3_2)
His sudden voice startled her. Unused to being so intimate with him again, Rebecca Quentin immediately pulled away from him and jumped back. Once some distance was between them, she finally replied, "The hotel owner said there was just a typhoon warning on the TV. They said it’s not suitable to travel today. The typhoon is expected to leave tonight, and the rain might lessen tomorrow."
Spending a night here with Rebecca Quentin was, of course, something Howard Geoffrey found very convenient...
With no attempt to hide it, Howard Geoffrey’s gaze at Rebecca Quentin revealed his rather good mood, "Then you’ll have to put up with me here."
Rebecca Quentin didn’t respond, her eyes shifted back to the window, and her expression turned serious.
Howard Geoffrey walked toward Rebecca Quentin, once again enclosing her in his arms.
"Hey..."
She’d never seen someone so shameless, touching her without warning.
Ignoring Rebecca Quentin’s struggles, Howard Geoffrey asked her outright, "Is it because you can’t let go of the child?"
Howard Geoffrey’s mind was always meticulous; he could always hit the bullseye of what Rebecca Quentin was thinking.
At the mention of the child, Rebecca Quentin’s heart softened, and she seemed to forget her struggles with Howard Geoffrey, quietly admitting, "I’ve never been away from him for so long."
Ever since having the child, she was almost inseparable from him every day... Thinking that she might not be able to go home to take care of the child tonight, she felt a deep sense of longing, reluctance, and sadness.
Howard Geoffrey kissed Rebecca Quentin’s cheek, consoling her in a soothing, magnetic voice, "It’s okay, your sister’s at home."
Actually, the child was easy to care for; besides nursing and diaper changes at night, he barely cried or fussed.
Christine Quinn had been taking care of Andrew during the nights in the few days after Rebecca Quentin gave birth, so having Christine take care of Andrew for a night was no problem at all.
"I miss him so much..." She couldn’t bear to be away from the child for even a second.
"It’s just one night, and I’ll take you back first thing in the morning."
Rebecca Quentin raised her head, glaring at Howard Geoffrey’s clear face, "Of course, you don’t care, you’re not the one who misses him!!"
"Look at you, we were talking fine, and now you’re throwing a tantrum."
Rebecca Quentin forcibly freed herself from Howard Geoffrey’s arms, sitting angrily on a chair by the window, speaking coldly, "Don’t touch me, if you want to sleep, go to sleep. If the rain stops, I want to go back immediately."
Knowing what Rebecca Quentin was upset about, Howard Geoffrey cheekily walked over to her, taking her hand, and complained softly, "You don’t know how long I haven’t had a good night’s sleep."
Rebecca Quentin got up, immediately withdrawing her hand.
But Howard Geoffrey swiftly sat down where Rebecca Quentin had just stood, wrapped his arm around her, and pulled her onto his lap.
"Howard Geoffrey..."
Sitting on someone’s lap like this seemed like something only couples in love would do, and given their current relationship, Rebecca Quentin naturally couldn’t bear such intimacy with Howard Geoffrey. So the moment he pulled her down, she immediately smacked the arms encircling her waist, "Let go!"
Howard Geoffrey kissed her on the spine, as if declaring, or promising softly, "I will never let you go again in this lifetime!"
Rebecca Quentin angrily said, "Why are you such a scoundrel?"
"Is it being a scoundrel to try everything to win someone back?"
"I don’t want to listen to you." Every word he said seemed like a spell, capable of making one easily lose themselves, and she was afraid of repeating past mistakes, so she would never allow herself to listen again.
Howard Geoffrey seemed to know there’s no rushing with her, didn’t get angry, just held her, suddenly asking, "Does it still hurt?"
Rebecca Quentin, feeling irritable yet powerless to shake him off, muttered unhappily, "I don’t understand what you’re talking about."
Howard Geoffrey’s hoarse voice was full of compassion, "The episiotomy the doctor gave you when you gave birth."
How did he know she had an episiotomy when giving birth? But it seemed most women needed the procedure during vaginal deliveries to prevent tearing...
Though her wound had healed and no longer hurt, the unsightly scar seemed quite noticeable.
Thinking of the pain of giving birth alone, Rebecca Quentin’s tone turned cold again, "It’s my privacy, I don’t need to answer you."
Howard Geoffrey chuckled lightly, seeing her icy face, "If there’s privacy between us, that’s definitely not the body!"
"..." He always said she was sharp-tongued, but she was the one who was often at a loss for words after just one of his comments.
"Becca, you must know, not being with you in the delivery room is my life’s biggest regret, as well as my biggest debt to you..."
Rebecca Quentin fell silent, the locked away places deep within her stirred into ripples by his words.
"I’m sorry..." Howard Geoffrey whispered an apology on the back of her neck, his raspy tone laden with profound regret.
His words were so sincere, each one brimming with deep affection, drawing one in like a vortex.
However, too many lessons from the past had hardened Rebecca Quentin...
Without feeling the slightest moved by what might be pretense, Rebecca Quentin took a deep breath and said flatly, "You don’t need to tell me these things; I won’t believe it anymore..."
Howard Geoffrey resolutely replied, "I’ll prove it to you!"
"Let go of me first!" Sitting on Howard Geoffrey’s lap, Rebecca Quentin squirmed in struggle.
There was a scent unique to her, and each time he got close, it was as if under a spell, deeply enchanted by it.
Her squirming now, combined with the occasional shower fragrance and her distinctive scent drifting under his nose, immediately stirred the restlessness suppressed for nearly a year.
Rebecca Quentin hadn’t considered how a man might react in this moment as she struggled, not until she felt a heat beneath her and a growing intensity did she realize it, her body slowly ceasing its struggle, her complexion becoming quite unnatural.
In Howard Geoffrey’s eyes burned a fierce, fiery desire, arms tightened around Rebecca Quentin’s waist as if unwilling to allow her an opportunity to escape, but if he acted now, he feared she would never forgive him...
Between extreme desire and extreme reason, Howard Geoffrey finally chose to release Rebecca Quentin slowly.
Rebecca Quentin was the first to stand, quickly putting considerable distance between them.
Howard Geoffrey stood as well. Seeing Rebecca Quentin’s frightened, pale face and alert eyes, the heat in his gaze momentarily lessened, asking, "Do I look like I’m about to devour you?"
Rebecca Quentin lowered her eyes, silent.
