Complete darkness

Chapter 192 - 191 Bat Swarm

If you were to look at things from the perspective of these young and privileged delinquents, the situation was indeed quite horrifying—

At the end of the dark, narrow corridor, a well-dressed old woman with a beaming smile charged at them, seeming to fly close to the ground. She spouted unintelligible phrases, and in her hand was a bloodied spear that radiated an intimidating presence.

The sound of Li Ang's voice struck such terror in these wealthy young men that, disregarding the survival hatch and the nearly ten-foot drop to the sewer below, they jumped straight down. Their pampered bodies, nurtured with silver spoons since birth, tumbled into the pool of sewage. One unfortunate fellow rolled twice. Due to the impact of the fall, his mouth opened involuntarily, and he swallowed a mouthful of foul water, immediately vomiting it back up.

"BLEGH—"

Before he could completely eject the acidic contents of his stomach, a long spear extended from the escape passage. It impaled him effortlessly, like a gigantic crossbow arrow, pinning him firmly to the brick wall of the sewer with immense force! This wealthy young man incredulously looked down at the spear protruding from his chest. His eyes were wide as he tried to say something, but he could only manage a low, strangled "URGH—".

In the sewer's weak lighting (its source a wall light at the corridor's corner), the other delinquents barely made out the gruesome scene of their companion's death. Li Ang, gripping the handle of the Triangular Bone Tipped Spear, flicked it, retracting the osseous blade. The impaled man slid down the sloped wall of the sewage pipe, his upper body submerged in the wastewater.

With a light "PLOP", Li Ang deftly jumped down from the escape passage. Clutching the long spear, he propped himself on its blade, hovering mid-air like the Monkey King with his staff, his feet clear of the filthy water below.

Such a bizarre entrance struck terror into the hearts of the wealthy young men. One of them scrambled up from the muck, tripping and stumbling as he tried to flee.

"Don't run!" Li Ang shouted, but the man only sped up. Before he could make it around the corner, Li Ang, still balanced on his spear-stilt, pulled out a handgun and shot him in the back. The loud gunshot reverberated through the sewer, and the man dropped to the ground as if all strength had been drained from him.

"I told you not to run," Li Ang said, flourishing his gun. He cast a glance at the delinquents, who were either squatting or lying prone. "Ah, young people these days, getting lazier and lazier. If you had consistently shot yourselves with small-caliber bullets before, you'd be immune to gunfire by now."

Facing Li Ang's gaze, these young elites dared not make any sound or movement, only staying as low as possible in the pool of sewage.

"Stand up. I'm not an unreasonable person," Li Ang said benevolently, waving the handgun. The terrified delinquents exchanged looks and hesitantly climbed out of the sewage pool.

"Hey, don't be so tense and uptight," Li Ang said, observing their pitiable and cautious demeanor. "I'm not going to hurt you. Which way did they go? Tell me, and I won't kill you. Scout's honor."

"That... that way," a red-haired young man stammered, trembling with fear as he lifted his arm and pointed ahead. "I just saw them turn right..."

"Good. What a good boy. Off you go, I won't kill you," Li Ang said with a nod. The wealthy young men exchanged glances, their eyes filled with the ecstasy of narrowly escaping death. They hesitated for a moment, then limped toward the rear of the sewer.

"Hold on!" Li Ang's cold voice echoed behind them. "The one at the back, what's that on your head?"

The group of delinquents turned around. On the head of the young man with dreadlocks, who was walking last, perched a long, brown, bar-shaped object.

The smell, the shape.

It's crap. Definitely crap.

"Well, well, well! Sneaking a Snickers bar behind my back!" Li Ang roared in rage. "Then I can't let you go!"

Without waiting for the terrified young men to plead their case, Li Ang drew his handgun and, with a series of "BANG! BANG! BANG!", emptied his magazine, hitting everyone squarely between the eyes.

Bodies sprawled across the ground. Li Ang muttered curses as he holstered his weapon, then flicked the Triangular Bone Tipped Spear. Like someone walking on stilts, he hopped and skipped along the sewer pipe at a remarkable speed.

***

Far in the distance, the fleeing members of the Blood Clan, using their superhuman hearing, clearly heard the bursts of gunfire from behind.

Felix's face turned ashen. The fact that their pursuer had caught up so quickly proved that Paul had been completely ineffective in slowing them down.

"Fuck!" A curse burst from his clenched teeth. As he passed a three-way junction, he waved his hand. "You, and you, run that way." A single Blood Slave bodyguard was useless for protecting him. It would be better to have two guards split off and run down a different path to confuse the enemy's pursuit.

The two bodyguards Felix pointed to showed a strange expression, yet their bodies obediently followed his command, running down the other fork of the junction. They deliberately made no effort to lighten their footsteps, instead stomping heavily through puddles, trying to make as much noise as possible.

As true members of the Blood Clan, they possessed an instinctual, biological hierarchical control over these Blood Slaves, who had only experienced an inferior initial embrace. This obligated the slaves to follow any order, no matter how absurd or unbelievable.

Felix and his party set off again, running quickly through the dark sewers. They strained their ears, trying to pinpoint the exact location of the enemy behind them.

TAP. TAP. TAP.

The sound of something tapping the ground came from far behind them. At first distant, the tapping quickened in frequency, the source drawing ever closer, like the tolling of the Grim Reaper's bell.

The enemy had caught up.

A chill ran down Felix's spine, each hair standing on end. He increased his pace, each stride propelling him seven or eight meters forward, as if gliding just above the ground.

TAP-TAP-TAP, TAP-TAP-TAP...

But the sounds from behind drew increasingly nearer.

Felix instinctively glanced back and saw an elderly woman walking on stilts made of long spears, turning the corner, laughing with a sinister 'HEH HEH' as she hopped towards him.

"Fire! Fire!" Felix yelled, continuing to run forward. He ordered his five Blood Slave bodyguards to stop and aim their submachine guns at Li Ang.

A dense hail of bullets swept down like a sheet of rain, covering the entire sewer pipe. But Li Ang activated the Phase Boots' Special Effect, increasing his movement speed for ten seconds and allowing him to ignore most kinetic damage. The bullets passed straight through his body, which seemed like a mere phantom, and ricocheted off the brick walls, PINGING and CLANGING.

Ten seconds of increased speed were enough for Li Ang to cover a great distance and reach the center of the five Blood Slaves who had been set up as decoys. He suddenly stabbed down with the Bonetip Spear, spun it in the air, and slashed it in a downward circle, decapitating all his enemies.

Five heads hit the ground. Li Ang, without so much as a glance, used his spear like a pole vaulter, leaping towards Felix.

The guards surrounding Felix immediately transformed into hideous half-man, half-bat creatures. They attempted to tear Li Ang's body apart with their sharp fingers, but they could only lightly graze his phantom-like image. Failing to inflict harm, they were instead each pierced through an eye socket, their skullcaps flung into the air by his spear.

A WHOOSHING sound cut through the air, heading straight for Felix. The young master of the Miller Family grimaced. His originally gentle face elongated, four sharp fangs extended from his mouth, and thin, semi-transparent bat wings sprouted from under his arms. An enigmatic breeze rose beneath him, shifting his figure just enough to avoid the Bonetip Spear aimed at his heart, which pulsed with potent Ripple Energy.

Li Ang, still airborne, pulled out an assault rifle and began to fire ahead.

Turning his back to the barrage, Felix violently flapped his bat wings. His body split into countless black bats with crimson eyes, which clustered together and skimmed quickly along the ground. After sacrificing dozens of bats, the swarm survived the hail of bullets.

I made it! Joy surged in Felix's heart. This young Blood Clan noble was too inexperienced; maintaining the swarm form was extremely draining, and he couldn't run far. But this speed was already sufficient to throw off that old woman with her spear.

Stupid old woman, I can fly! Felix thought smugly, then had one of the bats look back.

He saw four slender, pale female arms sprout from Li Ang's back. The arms reluctantly clutched the brick crevices of the sewer, pulling Li Ang backward like drawing a slingshot. Then, they launched him forward with a fierce thrust!

Li Ang's body traced a straight line through the air. He put away the Bonetip Spear and pulled out a Remington M870 Shotgun, simultaneously activating the "Flesh Cutter" Title Skill. He then aimed at the swarm and pulled the trigger.
