Chapter 204: Family Reunion
"Kyu!" Primum hovered around the room inside his tower.
James pointed at the window. "You can fly outside, but don't go into the house and don't leave the property wards."
"Kyu!" Primum responded with a happy cry and went out.
"He is definitely going into the house..." James sighed. "I'd better give the house elves a warning before they see it and freak out."
"Primum is always so cheerful… why did you make it like that?" Nyxaris glanced at him.
James leaned back in his chair and relaxed for a bit. It felt good being back in a place he could call home, even though he was tired from the trip.
The first thing he did after greeting his mother was enter his tower and let Primum and Nyxaris roam free for a bit.
They had been recovering since the day of the fight with the witch and deserved a rest.
James looked ahead at the fairy, who was now sitting at the border of the table with her little legs hanging in the air. "Believe it or not, I did not choose the personality of the constructs I created. I could only have control over the things you are capable of doing, not the way you think."
"Really?" Nyxaris looked surprised. "That seems… reckless. What if we didn't turn out the way you wanted?"
"Then it would have been my failure as your creator and not yours," James stated. "But you have nothing to concern yourself with. You and Primum have been fulfilling your functions properly."
A smile appeared on Nyxaris's face, but she remained quiet.
James noticed the bracelet on his hand making strange noises.
"Yes, Tertivor, you have also done a great job."
The noises stopped.
'Why are they all so hungry for validation, I wonder,' James thought.
He then heard a soft knock on the door.
'Mmm… one of the house-elves.' They were the only ones to knock, as they were not allowed to teleport inside his laboratory, and his mother would usually just yell at him from outside.
"Come on in," James said.
"Master James." Loory opened the door slightly so he could look inside.
"Master Potter has returned home and wishes to speak with you."
"Oh…" James was not looking forward to that.
His mother was still unaware of what went on during his school year, but his father certainly knew, as his department was involved as well.
'He is going to want answers. What should I tell him?' he wondered.
Obviously, the full truth was out of the question. He couldn't even give him as much as he did to Albus Dumbledore, as their relationship was very different.
James knew Dumbledore well enough to understand that the man would not push him for information.
Fleamont Potter was a much different man. He will have to give something away, not just to quell the man's curiosity but also to make his life easier in the near future, as he will no longer have to hide his true self from his family all that much.
"Master James." Loory was still waiting for his answer.
"I heard you the first time. Where is my father right now?"
"Inside his studio." The house-elf noticed Nyxaris sitting at the table and looked surprised but made no comment on her.
"Tell him that I will be there in a few minutes," James responded.
Loory closed the door and left without making a sound.
"Always so efficient," James commented.
"Is Master in trouble?" Nyxaris asked.
"Perhaps I am." James stood up. "But don't worry, if he kicks me out of the house, I'll find us a nice place."
"Kick you out?" Nyxaris tilted her head in confusion.
"It was just a joke," James said. "By the way, I have a task for you while I'm away."
"Of course. What does Master need?"
"Your memory is better than mine for details, and by now, you have accumulated an immeasurable amount of knowledge." James pointed at the part of the table where there was a stack of blank papers and pens.
As soon as he could figure out how to find and destroy the other Horcruxes, Voldemort would become a much lesser danger.

When he opened the door leading to his father's studio, he expected to find an extremely angry Fleamont Potter on the other side.
However, that didn't seem to be the case.
"James, welcome home." Fleamont didn't exactly welcome him with a smile on his face, but he had never done that anyway.
In fact, the only time James recalled seeing this person smile was on the day he found out that his son was not going to die.
'Too bad I'm not even the real James Potter,' he could not help but think.
But that was a secret he would never reveal.
"Thank you, Father. It was a very eventful year."
"So I heard." Fleamont made a gesture, pointing at the chair in front of his desk.
James took a seat. "Am I in too much trouble?"
Fleamont remained silent for a few uncomfortable seconds. "I spoke with your Headmaster this afternoon. We had a very long conversation about you, and your future."
"My future?"
"He told me that you were offered a teaching position, as long as you finish all your tests during the summer. Being an apprentice professor at sixteen is not something I expected you to accomplish, given what you have done in previous school years," Fleamont said. "You can imagine how surprised I was to hear this."
"I honestly thought we were going to talk about something else," James said.
"I just wanted to start with something nicer. Believe it or not, I have also had a few rough days," his father responded.
"The attack on Diagon Alley. You were called." James realized. If his father's department was brought there, that meant the damages were even bigger than what the newspaper mentioned.
"Ugly business…" Fleamont sighed. "But you are right, what I really wanted to speak with you about was what went on in Hogsmeade… where do we start?"
