Chapter 848 Stepping Out of Fear Voluntarily

Ye Ziyu stood up from her chair and pulled Di Mingjue’s hand away from Xiao Ran’s collar. Wiping tears from the child’s face with the side of her palm, she bent down and picked him up, leaving the examination room.

They left without a word, and Xingxing cast them envious glances. He had been scared during the examination too, but he couldn’t show it as openly as Xiao Ran.

Ye Shaoting, standing nearby, caught sight of his gaze.

“I’m sorry, the examination will have to wait,” Di Mingjue informed the waiting nurse.

The people before her were all important figures, so the nurse dared not express any dissatisfaction. In fact, when Di Mingjue apologized to her, she was too nervous to accept it.

After the nurse assured him that it was fine, she left, leaving only the three of them in the waiting room.

Ye Shaoting beckoned Xingxing over. He kindly helped the boy remove his heavy radiation suit. “How do you feel? Is anything uncomfortable?”

“No,” Xingxing replied.

Di Mingjue watched them from the side, seemingly unconcerned, but his ears were perked up, listening to their conversation.

*It’s good that he’s alright!*

Once he confirmed Xingxing was fine, he walked out of the observation room to Ye Ziyu and Xiao Ran.

Xiao Ran clung to Ye Ziyu like a newborn infant. The corridor buzzed, but the two of them said nothing, simply leaning against each other, feeling each other’s warmth.

“Feeling better?” Di Mingjue stepped forward, reaching out to caress Xiao Ran’s fingers.

Children hold grudges. Remembering Di Mingjue’s stern and fierce demeanor inside, Xiao Ran immediately pulled his hand back, refusing his touch.

*Oh, so he’s being stubborn now!*

Di Mingjue raised an eyebrow, then looked down at the proud expression on Xiao Ran’s face. With a glint in his eye, he sighed dramatically. “Alas, good intentions are misunderstood. It truly chills one’s heart!”

As he spoke, he even raised his hand to pat his aching chest.

Xiao Ran watched this scene unfold completely. He was still a child, after all, lacking the depth of cunning and emotional resilience. He couldn’t see that Di Mingjue was acting.

“Mommy, I can do it now,” Xiao Ran said, his eyes fixed on Di Mingjue.

Di Mingjue scoffed from the side, “Saying it is one thing. Once inside, who knows if someone might not be scared into crying their eyes out.”

Xiao Ran squirmed his limbs and reluctantly wriggled out of Ye Ziyu’s embrace. “Mommy, I want to go in for the examination!”

His bright eyes radiated determination, clear and transparent like a pool of pure water.

“Alright.” Ye Ziyu stepped forward and opened the closed door.

Xiao Ran walked in with the demeanor of a general going into battle, appearing ready to face death. Under the nurse’s guidance, he repeated the same actions Xingxing had undergone.

Watching the scanner at work, Ye Ziyu clenched her fists nervously, pressing her face against the glass.

“It’s okay, don’t worry,” Di Mingjue said from behind her, rubbing her shoulders.

She knew rationally that the examination was unlikely to cause any harm, but thinking of Xiao Ran’s initial reluctance and then his subsequent bravery in facing his fear, Ye Ziyu felt an inexplicable pang of heartache.

The examination was quick. In just a few minutes, Xiao Ran was led out by the nurse.

“How did it feel?” Di Mingjue inquired.

Fear often arises from the unknown, but once Xiao Ran was actually lying there, he felt no fear at all. He shook his head and raised his hands for the nurse to remove the heavy radiation suit.

Ye Ziyu crouched down, hugged him around the waist, and affectionately kissed his cheek, praising him generously. “You’re so brave!”

Xiao Ran grinned, chuckling.

The results would take a while to be ready. While waiting, Xiao Ran complained of hunger. Considering they might not have eaten for a long time, Ye Ziyu asked Di Mingjue to buy food for the two of them.

Ye Shaoting, upon hearing this, voluntarily accompanied Di Mingjue.

There were many restaurants near the hospital. The two walked side by side, but not a word was exchanged between them.
