"He can't eat or sleep because you came to the hospital?" Di Mingjue retorted ungraciously.
Lu Sisi's animated expression froze on her face, tears welling in her eyes as she nervously twisted the hem of her shirt.
Di Mingjue turned to Jiang Ziyu. "Are you very familiar with her?"
"Just met," Jiang Ziyu replied, feigning nonchalance and tilting her head to tease. "She calls me Sister Ziyu, and I instantly felt a connection. It would be rude not to respond."
Lu Sisi's scalp tingled as she timidly observed Di Mingjue's expression.
"You're really quite familiar with everyone!" Di Mingjue gritted his teeth, wishing he could bite Jiang Ziyu.
Shrugging, Jiang Ziyu glanced at the cowering Lu Sisi behind him and nudged Di Mingjue with her eyes. "Don't be so fierce, you'll scare her."
Di Mingjue snorted, his attitude towards Lu Sisi unsoftened by her words. Instead, he dismissively ordered, "You've seen him. Go home. You are not to come back without my permission."
He had finally managed to get some alone time with Jiang Ziyu through this incident, and he wouldn't let someone he had no connection with ruin his efforts these past few days.
Lu Sisi wanted to explain, but facing Di Mingjue's icy glare, the words died on her lips.
She looked at Jiang Ziyu, who responded with a helpless shrug.
"I'm sorry, I won't do it again." With tearful eyes, she turned and left.
How pitiful!
Jiang Ziyu thought with a sigh. His heart had been trampled upon.
Di Mingjue moved in front of her, his oppressive presence enveloping her. He couldn't help but choke out, "You're truly generous, just letting your husband go when asked."
He had only wanted to avoid her pestering, why was he angry? Besides, their contract was set for a year, and even if she didn't want to let him go, she wouldn't be able to.
Faced with his attitude, Jiang Ziyu couldn't help but roll her eyes. "I'm tired, I want to rest."
"You're tired talking to me, but you were chatting happily with her just now. A few words from others can make you completely swayed, agreeing to whatever they say," Di Mingjue said, showering her with sarcastic complaints.
She was already lying in bed, yet the voice in her ears had not stopped.
Jiang Ziyu sighed in exasperation and reached up to cover her ears with the blanket.
Her protest was met by Di Mingjue's gaze. He reached out and pulled down the blanket, saying, "I told you I'm not someone who plays with emotions. I want to live my life with someone suitable. Since I've chosen you, it's for a lifetime. You can't irresponsibly leave me to others anymore."
Wait! Jiang Ziyu's pupils widened. Was this a confession?
Di Mingjue's fingernail traced the outline of her ear, and he leaned in to whisper, "I am confident I can make you stay by my side for a lifetime."
With that, he turned and left.
With a thud, Jiang Ziyu threw off the blanket in front of her. She gasped for air, looking at the hospital room door.
What did he mean by that? What did he mean, "together for a lifetime"? Did he know how irresponsible it was to make such a promise!
Jiang Ziyu raised her hand to her face, covering it as she mumbled softly, "Annoying! Why would you say something like that!"
She fell back onto the bed, the exertion causing the back of her head to hit the headboard.
Outside the hospital room, Di Mingjue saw Lu Sisi, who had not yet left. He acted as if he didn't see her, walking past her directly.
"Brother Mingjue," Lu Sisi called out, running to catch up. She spread her hands to block his path. "I know you dislike me, but I really didn't come to disrupt your relationship with Sister Ziyu. I was alone since childhood. After meeting Uncle Di, I treated him like a father. I admit I had selfish intentions in returning to the Di residence with him, but I just wanted more family, even a familial bond without blood relation would be fulfilling."
