Chapter 283: Chapter 283 I will do it!
"Tired?" Gu Shiting asked her.
Sheng Tang nodded. "A little bit."
"Then let’s get ready to eat, and you can study in the afternoon," Gu Shiting said. "I’ll cook a dish for you."
"Let the cook do it. Mrs. Gu is also at home today; she needs to eat too," Sheng Tang said.
Gu Shiting glanced upstairs.
He had a servant come in and asked her, "Has Mrs. Gu woken up yet?"
"Not yet. She said to call her at mealtime," the servant said.
Gu Shiting asked someone to go get her.
The kitchen had prepared lunch, and Mrs. Gu elegantly came downstairs.
She had flown back from France yesterday. Although she slept the whole way, it wasn’t restful; she took a nap in the morning, so now she felt refreshed.
She wore a beige sweater, light-colored trousers, and a light-brown scarf draped over her shoulders, appearing serene and gentle, without any of the domineering aura of a strong career woman.
"Tangtang’s math still hasn’t improved?" Mrs. Gu asked with a smile.
She knew her future daughter-in-law very well.
Sheng Tang struggled a bit with math, so Gu Shiting had been strongly persuading her to stay over for a month during the winter break, under the pretext of helping her with math.
Mrs. Gu hoped her son would succeed.
"Not yet," Sheng Tang sighed. "I’ve been working really hard."
"Take your time, the college entrance exam is next year," Mrs. Gu said.
Gu Shiting cleared the books off the table.
Mrs. Gu sat down and chatted with Sheng Tang for a bit, while the servants started bringing in the dishes.
Just as they set the table, the door opened, and Mr. Gu came in.
Mrs. Gu was slightly surprised. "Why are you back? Weren’t you supposed to stay in Switzerland for half a month?"
"Things wrapped up quickly. This time I got really lucky; what was supposed to take half a month was settled in a night," Mr. Gu smiled and then glanced at Mrs. Gu. "Came back early to be with you... all."
Gu Shiting: "....."
It was rare to hear his father speak so tactfully about missing his wife.
Mrs. Gu couldn’t help but laugh.
She laughed very gently, sweetly. Fine lines appeared at the corners of her eyes, gently spreading with her smile, filled with happiness.
The two of them were often very busy, but they had an agreement that no matter what, they would see each other at least once every ten days; when they weren’t together, they would have a call every night at ten.
They didn’t spend much time at home together. Not long ago, Mr. Gu had flown to Italy, and they had just seen each other.
Sometimes, due to the time difference, their schedules wouldn’t align. Even if Mr. Gu was in a meeting, they would always find five minutes to talk.
Their relationship had remained harmonious over the years because they put effort into it.
No relationship can flourish without nurturing.
With an extra person at the table, the atmosphere became much livelier.
".... Let’s go out this afternoon, walk around and have some coffee," Mrs. Gu asked Gu Shiting. "Ting, you up for it?"
Gu Shiting immediately remembered his sister asking him if he was "up for it" and his mind drifted.
"I’m good!" he said through gritted teeth.
Sheng Tang looked at him, puzzled.
Mrs. Gu and Mr. Gu exchanged a glance, both quite happy.
They usually dared not take Gu Shiting to the mall—he was afraid of the dark and of crowds.
But he had changed a lot recently; he had even stood in line with Sheng Tang to buy ice cream.
Taking their son shopping was Mrs. Gu’s greatest wish.
With Sheng Tang around, it could all be realized.
After eating, everyone took a short break, and Mr. Gu personally drove them to a luxury mall in the city.
The mall had opened the year before. It was splendid, located in the city center.
Because of the high prices, even on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t as crowded as other malls.
