Chapter 778: Chapter 476: This Surprise Is So Big, I’m So Happy
After resting for half a month, Henry Sullivan finally returned to the army.
Because his transfer orders had arrived, he had to go back to hand over his current work.
Before leaving, he instructed Ivy Miller not to associate with his mother if there’s nothing urgent.
He also urged her to take good care of herself.
Ivy Miller was actually very reluctant to see him go.
The longer she lived with him, the more she didn’t want to let go, and she didn’t even know when she became so sentimental.
But her reluctance was real.
After Henry returned, Ivy rested for two more days. She originally wanted to go back to work at the company, but Henry wouldn’t let her.
Considering that her current health was indeed not suitable for work, she decided to go to the office to tidy up her desk and make room for the newcomer.
More than half a month had passed, and the atmosphere in the office was still tense.
As soon as she walked in, she immediately caught everyone’s attention.
She deliberately glanced at Team Leader Liu’s desk, but found that the person at the desk had changed.
She was puzzled for a moment, where is Team Leader Liu?
No one in the office paid attention to her, so she directly walked to the manager’s office door and knocked.
A voice called out to come in, and Ivy walked in.
Seeing her, Manager Tan was a bit surprised, "Ivy? Why are you at the company, aren’t you supposed to be resting at home?"
"Manager Tan, I think I might not be able to work recently.
So I came to pack up my things and prepare to resign."
"Resign? But there’s been no notification from above."
Ivy smiled, "No need for a notification, I’m resigning. I can’t just hold the position and do nothing."
"Oh, don’t say that. You have a health issue now, everyone understands."
Do they? Thinking of the looks from the people outside just now, Ivy shook her head.
They would never understand.
This group of people is so competitive; with her setting a precedent, who knows how many will fake their leaves in the future?
She shouldn’t be the bad apple.
"But I can’t forgive myself.
By the way, Manager Tan, I noticed Team Leader Liu doesn’t seem to be in the office. She..."
"She was dismissed, that order came directly from the president."
Ivy was a bit surprised, "Why? Because of our fight?"
"No, because of her moral issues.
The company investigated, and her affair with Manager Huo was true.
This was a moral failing. The president said the company couldn’t tolerate such employees, so she was dismissed."
Ivy felt a bit of regret, wasn’t it because of her?
It was she who mentioned Manager Huo’s name that day.
Wasn’t it after she mentioned Manager Huo that Team Leader Liu went mad and lunged at her?
If only Team Leader Liu hadn’t targeted her that day.
Then things wouldn’t have escalated so badly between them.
It felt like she ruined Team Leader Liu’s future, and she was full of guilt.
"What’s wrong, Ivy, why the heavy expression?"
"Nothing, just thinking...if only I hadn’t been so impulsive that day."
"I know, you’ve put up with Team Leader Liu for a long time.
I’ve looked into the matter and it’s not entirely your fault either.
Team Leader Liu kept targeting you. I know you two had many arguments over work."
Ivy nodded, "Thank you, Manager Tan, for understanding me. I’m sorry for the troubles I’ve caused during my two months here."
"Don’t say that, you’ve worked very hard. I saw you often stay late, I noticed all of it."
"I was working late because I’m not good enough."
Manager Tan smiled, "You’re modest, aren’t you? Is your health okay now?"
"Anyway, the doctor just advised me to rest well."
"Being pregnant requires good rest, no need for anyone to advise you, it’s just necessary."
Ivy stood up, "Manager Tan, I see you’re busy, I won’t disturb you anymore.
I’ll leave after I pack up my desk; take care."
"Let me see you off."
"Oh no, Manager Tan, I’ll go by myself, it’s more comfortable that way."
Ivy didn’t notice any change in Manager Tan. She went out, packed her things, and left the Translation Department.
After putting her personal belongings in the car, she called her father-in-law.
"Dad, I just resigned from the company."
"What’s going on?"
"I just feel like my health isn’t good enough to work at the company, and I don’t want to hog the position."
"You silly child... our company isn’t missing one person’s salary."
"But the Translation Department values efficiency, I don’t want to hold others back."
Damian Sullivan thought for a moment, "Alright, how about this, I’ll transfer you to another position to hang around.
"Whenever you want to return to work, you can resume your position directly."
"But..."
"No buts, just listen to me. Where are you now? I’ll send someone to bring you back."
"No need, Dad. I can go back myself; I drove here."
"Alright, then be careful on the road."
"Okay." After hanging up the phone, Ivy sat in the car, looked up, and thought, I’ve held onto this workplace for two months, and I’m quite reluctant to leave it. Goodbye.
She rolled up the car window, started the engine, and drove away.
A week later, Henry Sullivan returned with his luggage.
When he got home, she was looking at a recipe trying to cook. Seeing him, Ivy threw the recipe aside, excitedly ran up to him, hugged him, and screamed, "Ah, Uncle, why are you back so soon without a heads-up?"
"To give you a surprise." Henry smiled at her. Half a year ago, that was her line.
"This surprise is huge! I’m so happy.
You came just in time; please help me in the kitchen. I’m almost killed by this caramelized sweet potato."
Henry frowned, smiling as she dragged him step by step into the kitchen.
Now he understood her surprise, thinking she was in a mess, and he was there just in time to help.
There were two plates of ruined caramelized sweet potato in the kitchen, all black like charcoal.
He hadn’t made caramelized sweet potato before, either. But after taking the recipe from her and glancing at it, he had an idea.
Twenty minutes later, the caramelized sweet potato was successfully made.
Looking at Henry, Ivy was a bit surprised, "Uncle, how come you can do everything?"
"Don’t you have the recipe?"
"But... the measurements weren’t clear in the recipe."
"Just estimate." He affectionately rubbed her head.
"I did estimate too..." Ivy pouted, wondering why his guess worked at the first attempt while hers failed three times. It was frustrating.
"That’s because you’re silly," Henry tapped her forehead and spoke to the baby in her belly, "Baby, make sure not to learn from your mom, she’s a miracle of silliness."
"What? You’re definitely not a true husband; a true husband wouldn’t say that."
Ivy looked at him, her face full of displeasure, "Uncle, I need encouragement now, you know, encouragement."
"I do want to encourage you, but your actions make it hard for me to be sincere.
Otherwise, I’d be deceiving you, and our baby is listening. We shouldn’t nurture her like that."
Ivy held the back of her head with her hand, "Uncle, I give up with you."
Henry smiled and tapped her forehead, "Alright, just kidding. Seeing you like this, don’t you want caramelized sweet potato? Come on."
He took the dish out with her, and after she tasted a bite, she immediately gave him a thumbs-up.
"Uncle, suddenly I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot, marrying such a talented man as you."
Henry sat down opposite her, "You start eating, I’ll cook us two bowls of noodles; I haven’t eaten either."
Ivy nodded, watching him return to the kitchen, feeling all wonderful.
It felt like her beautiful life was about to begin with her uncle back home.
A dozen minutes later, he brought out two bowls of noodles and placed them in front of her, "Eat this."
"Uncle, now that you’re back, you won’t leave again, right?"
"No, I won’t. You eat first, then after eating, I have something to discuss with you."
Ivy stuffed the caramelized sweet potato into her mouth, "First tell me if it’s good news or bad news."
"I think it’s good news."
Ivy chuckled, "Alright then."
Thanks to Henry’s excellent culinary skills, Ivy ate quite a bit for lunch.
After eating, Henry went to wash the dishes while Ivy washed some fruit and placed it on the coffee table, eating while waiting for him.
After coming out, Henry sat next to her, looking at her seriously, his expression calm.
Ivy watched him, "Uncle, what do you want to discuss with me?"
"I was thinking, maybe you shouldn’t go back to the company before you give birth."
Ivy nodded; she didn’t want to go back to work either.
After feeling squeezed for two months, she was mentally exhausted.
"Well, my unit is a bit far from home, so I might not be able to commute back and forth every day.
Therefore, I’d like to discuss with you about coming to stay with me at the unit."
Remembering her previous experience, Ivy was a bit... reluctant, because it was too lonely.
"This place is different from the previous one.
And most importantly, I’ve applied for a family apartment, so later you will stay with me, I can take care of you every day.
I found out there are several other military wives there dedicated to taking care of kids.
You being with them won’t be a bad idea."
After thinking it over, Ivy finally nodded, "Well... okay."
Henry didn’t expect her to agree so readily, and he smiled, "I thought you’d be hard to persuade."
"Why do you think that?"
"Because you once told me you felt very lonely staying at home when you visited before."
"But it’s different now, this is a city. Even if it gets boring, I can find my own entertainment."
Ivy blinked her bright eyes, and Henry thought, this woman’s greatest strength must be her ability to make the right decision quickly.
