Chapter 749: Chapter 449: I’m Afraid of Your Mother, I Don’t Want to Go to Your House for Dinner

"I’m not going back," Ivy Miller reacted dramatically.

Henry Sullivan turned off the stove: "Not going back?"

"That’s right, I don’t want to go to your house."

"The not-so-pretty bride has to meet the in-laws eventually, are you planning to avoid them forever?"

Ivy crossed her arms: "What do you know? Sure, the not-so-pretty bride has to meet the in-laws.

But I’ve already met my in-laws.

Let me tell you, old man, right now I’m living with the mindset of as long as my mother-in-law doesn’t give me a hard time, everything will be just fine.

It’s your mom, even if others don’t know her, you do.

I’m afraid of your mom, I don’t want to go to your house for dinner."

She would rather be grounded by her own Dad at home than insist on avoiding meeting the mother-in-law.

Henry Sullivan gave her a somewhat helpless look: "Then you can call my mom and tell her yourself."

"What should I say to her on the phone?"

"She wants me to bring you home for a family meal, and you don’t want to go?

You tell her yourself, just say you have something to do and can’t make it."

Ivy pouted: "Can’t you say it for me?"

"I just agreed to her, now if I say we’re not coming, it’s obvious you don’t want to go to my house."

"But if I call, it’s the same thing," Ivy got anxious.

"Old man, do you even know how to handle situations? At times like this, you should balance between me and the mother-in-law.

How can you just give up like this, it’s not right."

Henry thought this little girl was really talkative.

He capitulated, nodded: "Okay, I’ll call."

He served the stir-fried noodles onto the table, "You eat first."

Ivy sat down to eat, while Henry pulled out his phone to make the call, completely forgetting she hadn’t washed up yet.

The call connected, Henry sat across from Ivy, hitting the speakerphone.

A woman’s voice came from the other end: "Son, are you on your way?"

"Not yet, Mom, I just realized I have something to do, I can’t come back today."

Ivy gave him a thumbs up, this old man was awesome.

But honestly, she had never heard her mother-in-law speak so gently before.

In the past, her mother-in-law always spoke to her like a teacher addressing a student who failed the exam.

Just thinking about it made her shiver.

"That’s not possible, son. I’ve already asked the maids to buy groceries.

Your Dad canceled his plans too, you can’t do this.

We haven’t had a meal together with you in so long. Consider our feelings as parents."

Henry looked at Ivy: "I really have something to do, maybe next time.

I’ll be back again in a few months."

"You can’t be serious, having a meal with our own son and we have to wait months.

You’re clearly in Anchester.

Forget it, just give the phone to Ivy, I want to say a few words to her."

"Why do you want to talk to her?" Henry looked at Ivy, who was frantically waving her hands like she was avoiding a plague.

Henry chuckled quietly, it was rare to see that the little girl actually had someone she feared.

"Never mind, just give the phone to her."

Henry handed the phone to Ivy, who took it with all sorts of reluctance: "Hello, Mom."

"Ivy, have you had breakfast?"

"I’m eating now, have you eaten?"

"I’ve eaten already, isn’t it late? You just got up, didn’t you.

This is what you need to do, today you follow Henry, and bring him back at noon to have lunch with me and your Dad.

This is the task your Dad has given you, you must accomplish it."
