Nan Gong Qiong, who liked Manx cats

Chapter 7 Cleverly Taking Hair

In the president’s office of the Xuan Corporation, Xuan Mohan held a document while Li An reported on the day's schedule.

“Lan Hanyu, Lan Tongtong, grew up abroad from childhood…” with a picture attached to the right, Xuan Mohan’s finger lightly brushed the small figures in the photo, and he smiled involuntarily.

Li An paused his report for a moment and continued. After the scene at the airport, he was no longer surprised. As the president’s chief assistant, he had to maintain this composure.

After an unknown amount of time, Xuan Mohan flipped to the last page.

“Lan Qianqian, orphan, adopted at six years old, adoptive mother Tong Muqing. From junior high school, she attended school while working part-time. In her second year of high school, her adoptive mother had surgery, and she dropped out to come to S City to work. At 18, she went abroad…” The rest detailed Lan Qianqian’s achievements abroad.

Reading this, Xuan Mohan’s feelings were complex. He had assumed that a family capable of raising such excellent children would also be excellent, at least a happy family. He hadn’t expected the child’s father to be unknown and the mother to have such a difficult past.

For some reason, he felt a sense of pity for the child’s mother. Perhaps it was because he liked the two children, and therefore extended his affection to their mother with more tolerance.

Downstairs from the Xuan Corporation

Lan Lexuan stood at the entrance, looking at the towering, solitary building before him, feeling incredibly small.

“He’ll be working in a place like this in the future, it’s so grand,” Lan Lexuan thought with delight.

At this moment, Lan Lexuan didn’t know that he would indeed work there, and in a very high position, but would be exhausted to death from being exploited by his older brother every day.

Remembering the task his brother had assigned him, Lan Lexuan took his short legs towards his destination: the president’s office on the 28th floor of the Xuan Corporation.

However, before he reached the door, he was stopped by a security guard. After all, children entering during working hours wouldn't make sense and could lead to reprimands from superiors.

“Little friend, this is not a place you should be.”

The security guard’s tone was rather polite, not scolding a small child aggressively. It was mainly because he couldn’t bring himself to be harsh with such a cute child.

“Uncle Security Guard, my daddy works here.”

“But you still can’t go in, it’s not allowed, do you understand?”

“But my mommy dropped me off here and left. I don’t know how to get back alone, sob sob, I’m so pitiful!” The small figure covered his face, his shoulders trembling. Anyone seeing him would feel pity.

“Oh, don’t cry, alright, alright. You can go in. See that waiting hall inside? You wait there and don’t run around, okay?” Abusing such a cute child would lead to nightmares at night.

“Okay, Uncle, I promise to be good.” Lan Lexuan immediately brightened, showing no sign of distress.

“Hello, little friend, who are you looking for?” The receptionist, mesmerized by the little cutie, felt her eyes sparkle and wanted to give him a squeeze.

Lan Lexuan hadn’t expected another obstacle, but who was he? More importantly, his brother had told him how to handle any obstructions.

“Hello, beautiful big sister, I’m looking for my daddy, his name is Li An.” Lan Lexuan blinked his innocent, large eyes and replied with sincere earnestness.

Upon hearing that it was Special Assistant Li’s child, the receptionist dared not block him any further. “Do you want me to take you up?”

“No need, I know where it is. I can go myself. Thank you, beautiful, pretty, cute, generous big sister, goodbye~” Lan Lexuan flashed a charming smile and headed towards the elevator with his chest out.

It wasn’t until he had walked a distance that the receptionist realized, when did Assistant Li have a child?

“Knock, knock~”

Lan Lexuan hadn’t expected to find no one. With his intelligent mind, he located the president’s office and lightly knocked twice.

“Enter.”

Xuan Mohan assumed Li An had entered, but heard no sound for a long time.

He immediately looked up sharply towards the door, but upon seeing the little figure at the entrance, his icy demeanor melted away, replaced by a surprise he hadn’t even noticed himself.

“Little friend, why are you here? Where is your sister?”

Startled by the grandeur and magnificence of the room, Lan Lexuan finally regained his senses.

“Hello, Uncle, my sister lost a hair clip yesterday. She really liked it and cried all day. I came to ask if it was left here with you.” Relying on his resemblance to his brother, Lan Lexuan had caused a lot of trouble over the years.

A trace of concern appeared on Xuan Mohan’s face: “She cried yesterday? How long did she cry? Were her eyes swollen? How is she now?”

“This man actually cares quite a bit about my sister,” Lan Lexuan thought, his impression of him improving.

“She’s fine now, just a bit unhappy this morning because she couldn’t find her favorite hair clip.”

“It seems Uncle doesn’t have it here, so I’ll be going now. Sorry to have bothered you, Uncle.”

“Wait, sit down for a while. Uncle will have someone check.” Hearing this, Lan Lexuan, who had turned around, breathed a sigh of relief, his smile vanishing in an instant.

“Okay, thank you, Uncle.” He sat politely and properly on the sofa.

After a while, Lan Lexuan looked towards the inner room. His brother had said this was a lounge, where Xuan Mohan would rest when tired from work, and where hair would be found.

“Uncle, may I go to the restroom?”

“Yes, go ahead. Uncle has ordered some food, you can eat it when you come out.”

“Thank you, Uncle!”

Xuan Mohan watched the little figure enter and was about to lower his head to continue reading his documents when the phone beside him rang abruptly. Seeing it was his grandmother’s number, Xuan Mohan felt a headache coming on. Over the years, his grandmother had often tried to set him up with women, and this time was likely no different.

“Grandma.”

“Yes, Mohan, I’m about to arrive at your company.”

“Grandma, I have a…”

Before his grandson could finish, she said, “You have an important meeting, right? You always try to fool Grandma. Anyway, Grandma will wait for you in your office,” and hung up.

Xuan Mohan was helpless. He did indeed have an important meeting. As he thought about this, his feet were already moving him out the door.

In the lounge, the poor little Lan Lexuan was desperately searching. He had looked on the bed and the table, but there wasn’t a single hair.

He obviously didn’t know that the cleaning staff had already tidied up early that morning.

Just then, the door to the president’s office was opened, and a voice came in: “I’d like to see how long he can hide. You all wait outside. I’ll stay in the inner room and see when he comes back!”

“Yes.” The bodyguards’ unified voices responded.
