Chapter 521: Chapter 521 : (Extra) Jiang Muchen’s Love Story (6)
"Deal," the omega wolf declared.
Jiang Muchen rolled with his eyes. It had to be the cheapest deal he had ever closed, barely worth his time.
But it was the first step in the reconciliation of the wolf clan into the Heavenly Empire. As the son of the Heavenly Emperor, he should at least do as much.
Even without giving his all, it did not take him long before he managed to catch the most impressive spiritual beast and kill it. Or better said, almost killed it.
Beneath the imposing Mount Yulin, a subterranean river coursed through the heart of the otherwise impenetrable stone.
In the perpetual darkness of this hidden waterway, a leviathan of the deep held dominion.
Its monstrous form was a grotesque amalgamation of fish and serpent, its elongated body sleek and muscular, rippling with an unnatural power.
A thick, leathery hide, the color of weathered stone, protected its serpentine body. Its head was disproportionately large, a triangular wedge of bone and muscle, dominated by a gaping maw lined with rows of serrated teeth as sharp as razor blades.
These jagged dentitions, reminiscent of a saw, were stained crimson from countless feasts.
Its eyes, cold and predatory, glowed with an eerie, otherworldly light in the subterranean darkness. A pair of vestigial fins protruded from its back, while a powerful, undulating tail propelled it through the water with astonishing speed.
As it moved, the water around it churned and frothed, disturbed by the monstrous creature’s passage. Its presence alone was a force of nature, a terrifying predator lurking in the hidden depths of the mountain.
Most alphas with low-level cultivations instintively knew to avoid this monster.
But not Jiang Muchen.
With a preternatural calm, he stood at the precipice of the hidden waterway, his figure silhouetted against the dim, subterranean light.
In his hand, he gripped his obsidian bow, taut with anticipation. As he drew back the string, a pulse of spiritual energy surged through him, igniting the arrowhead with a soft, ethereal glow.
Time seemed to slow down considerably as he released the arrow.
It flew true and swift, piercing the darkness with a streak of light. A moment later, a horrifying shriek echoed through the cavern as the arrow found its mark.
The monstrous fish-serpent erupted from the depths, its colossal body thrashing wildly.
The once still waters were transformed into a maelstrom of foam and rage.
But Jiang Muchen remained unyielding. With a strength born of both physical and spiritual power, he leaped into the fray.
The water closed over his head, but he moved like a phantom, his senses heightened.
A clash of the alpha and the leviathan ensued, putting an underwater ballet of violence on display. With each strike, Jiang Muchen’s sword, a hum of vibrating energy, bit deeper into the creature’s flesh.
Finally, with a Herculean effort, Jiang Muchen seized the monster by its gills and, with a thunderous roar, hurled it onto the cavern floor.
"Ahhhhhhhhh...!!!" The young alpha wolf shrieked in terror when the beast was thrown at his feet.
"Don’t be such a coward," Jiang Muchen furrowed his brows in distaste. He pointed at the beast with his sword, dripping water onto its almost lifeless form.
"Kill it now before it regains its vitality. Beasts of this kind usually have enough spiritual energy to recover within minutes.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!!!" The alpha wolf crawled away from the fish-serpent monster decidedly.
"..."
Just as Jiang Muchen was about to kill the beast for good, an arrow wheezed past the air and burrowed itself into the beast, ending it for good.
Jiang Muchen turned around and saw the omega wolf, his hand still gripping his bow in the shooting position.
"We will just tell everyone you killed it," he told his younger brother. "Thank you for your help, Your Highness."
He then plucked off the pink orchids from his and his brother’s chest before handing them to Jiang Muchen.
"I am sorry that this is all we can give to repay your kindness."
Jiang Muchen took the two orchids and shrugged.
"We had a deal. No need to overthink it."
He clearly did not.
Jiang Muchen went off to kill some random monster and headed back to the entrance.
His return was received with a thunderous applause.
Everyone expected to see the grand carcass of some terrifying monster, but Jiang Muchen actually only brought a small tree spirit. It had not even cultivated for a hundred years!
Xie Jianshen eyed his only son from head to toe.
"You are drenched," he remarked.
"Yes, I am," Jiang Muchen answered.
"Did this tree spirit hide underwater or something?"
"Yes, it did."
"..."
Xie Jianshen was about to ask his son if he thought his mother a fool, but Jiang Rufeng squeezed his elbow and shook his head at him.
Xie Jianshen scoffed.
"Whatever," he said. "You can now present your pink orchid to an omega of your choosing."
Interestingly, Jiang Muchen did not have only one pink orchid but three!
The alphas wondered whom exactly Jiang Muchen robbed to get the other two orchids, but the omegas only cared for the Ethereal Beauty title.
Three orchids!
Three pink orchids!
That’s thrice the amount they could get from a regular hunt participant!
The omegas wasted no time in engaging in coy behavior. Their eyes fluttered like delicate butterfly wings and their lips curved into honeyed, artificial smiles.
"..."
The issue lay in Jiang Muchen’s profound aversion to such conduct. Regardless of the expected charm of omega behavior, he couldn’t abide it.
So he did what he was not supposed to do.
He took the three pink orchids, turned them into a small bouquet, and handed it to Xie Jianyu before everyone’s eyes.
"Here, Little Uncle, for you."
"..."
"..."
"..."
The only reason why the omegas did not immediately break into tears was their unwillingness to ruin their makeup.
"... Muchen..."
Xie Jianyu extended his hand to take the bouquet, but Zhang Fengxi went ahead of him.
"Are you trying to court my wife, you fool?" He asked Jiang Muchen with a scary grin across his face.
"Jianbao is mine and mine only. The unclaimed omegas are over there. Give these flowers to them."
