"The Hero’s Light"
In that legendary history, the Knights of Fianna, alongside other heroes, launched a counteroffensive against the monstrous hordes.
Facing the formidable one-eyed king, Balor, who blocked their path, the dwarven warriors, fueled by a desperate courage, sacrificed their own lives, transforming into a colossal spear that pierced the mighty foe.
The sheer power of that single thrust was so immense that it cleaved the entire valley in two, permanently altering the landscape; this dramatically altered terrain has since become a renowned landmark known as the Fianna Causeway.
Now, summoned by Finn, this legendary knight order transcended the boundaries of time itself, descending upon the battlefield to once again unleash that legendary strike.
The leading dwarf, astride his sprite steed, let out a furious roar, and to everyone’s astonishment, he wielded the very same [Savage Magic Spear] technique as Finn himself.
The world of Danmachi has never explicitly acknowledged the existence of soul reincarnation, yet upon witnessing Argonaut’s face—a perfect replica of Bell’s—and his mastery of the identical [Savage Magic Spear] technique, Drake found it utterly impossible to believe that there was no connection between the two.
The dwarven spirit raised his spear high above his head, and behind him, all of the other members of the knight order disintegrated into shimmering particles of light, converging upon the spear in his hand. Even the spirit’s own physical form dissolved into the attack, merging with its power.
In the end, only an enormous, colossal spear remained suspended in mid-air. Surrounded by a breathtaking display of celestial light, this gigantic spear hurtled towards Nidhogg.
The moment the two collided, the intense white light emanating from the impact completely overwhelmed everyone’s vision, as if they had been transported to a realm of pure, unadulterated white.
Drake had no way of knowing the true scale and power of the legendary strike that had carved the Giant’s Causeway millennia ago, but he was acutely aware that the moment the spirit’s spear was unleashed, all other sounds ceased to exist.
A profound silence reigned for several seconds before any sound could be heard again; it was the sound of Nidhogg’s terrified roar, laced with a palpable sense of fear and dread.
Only then did the group’s perception of color and sound return to normal.
But what stood before them was a massive, gaping crater, with no sign of Nidhogg to be seen.
Finn, steadying himself against the spirit banner, spoke, his voice tinged with uncertainty, "Is it over? Have we succeeded?"
To be perfectly honest, even Finn himself was utterly astounded by the sheer power of the spirit’s strike.
Because this was the first time he had attempted to summon the Knights of Fianna, Finn had poured all of his magical power into the spirit banner, unleashing a full-powered attack.
The resulting attack possessed a power that far exceeded even Finn’s most potent spear magic; the ultra-hard metal floor of the artificial labyrinth had been blasted open, leaving behind a gaping hole.
Even if the legendary evil dragon had truly been resurrected, Finn harbored no doubt that it would have been utterly annihilated by such an attack.
However, Drake countered, his voice laced with a note of caution, "Nidhogg is still alive. Everyone, remain vigilant."
As if to confirm Drake’s assertion, a pained roar echoed from the depths of the crater that had been created by the spirit’s attack.
While the spirit’s strike unleashed by Finn was undeniably powerful, and would have undoubtedly resulted in Nidhogg’s demise if no unforeseen circumstances had occurred, a critical element had been overlooked.
The unforeseen element, in this case, was the presence of the artificial labyrinth’s intricate network of traps and mechanisms.
During the preceding battle, a portion of the green, fleshy substance that had been coating the floor had been cleared away, and as a consequence, some of the artificial labyrinth’s traps had been reactivated.
At the very moment the spirit unleashed its devastating attack, Nidhogg, caught completely off guard, had been rendered incapable of any effective countermeasures; however, the individual controlling the labyrinth’s traps from behind the scenes had seized this opportunity to activate them.
The ground beneath Nidhogg’s feet split open, allowing it to narrowly evade the spirit’s fatal blow at the very last moment.
It was this fortuitous circumstance that allowed Nidhogg to survive the otherwise devastating attack.
A single claw, covered in obsidian-like scales, clawed its way out of the crater’s edge, and the monstrous, black dragon once again emerged from the depths.
Although Nidhogg’s magic stone had miraculously survived the spirit’s attack, a significant portion of its body—roughly half—had been completely obliterated, and even its head was reduced to little more than a shattered ruin.
Despite its grievous injuries, Nidhogg appeared even more ferocious and dangerous than before.
Ais, her body enveloped in vengeful black flames, moved with a speed that surpassed even Drake’s; she instantly closed the distance to Nidhogg, unleashing a relentless barrage of attacks with her Despair.
Amidst the shower of flying scales and spurting blood, Ais bore little resemblance to the usually composed and controlled Sword Princess; instead, she seemed consumed by a terrifying, almost frenzied rage.
Nidhogg, naturally, would not simply stand idly by and allow itself to be slaughtered. It unleashed a torrent of devastating magical attacks upon Ais. Ais, completely overwhelmed by her rage, had completely forgotten the need for defensive maneuvers.
Just as those magical attacks were about to strike Ais, Drake arrived to provide crucial support.
"[Fire Dragon’s Roar!]"
A colossal column of fire erupted from Drake’s mouth, instantly obliterating all of Nidhogg’s magical attacks. Meanwhile, below, Ais’s frenzied assault had managed to dismantle all of Nidhogg’s remaining defenses, exposing the magic stone embedded within its chest.
However, Ais herself was sent flying by a powerful blow from Nidhogg’s massive claw.
Observing the rapidly healing wounds on Nidhogg’s body, everyone understood that the most crucial aspect now was to press their advantage and eliminate the creature once and for all.
"[Fimbulwinter!]"
Riviria unleashed a blizzard of freezing winds, and layers of ice rapidly spread across Nidhogg’s body. This not only slowed its rate of self-healing but also effectively restrained its movements.
However, the red veins that resembled blood vessels pulsating across Nidhogg’s body began to glow intensely; even in its severely damaged state, it managed to unleash a powerful storm spell, sending Gareth and the others flying.
This was a magic circle designed to absorb magical energy; it was likely connected to the Fallen Sprite avatars located within Orario itself.
The reason for Nidhogg’s astonishing rate of growth and regeneration was the constant influx of magical energy being channeled into its body through these magic circles.
Fueled by this immense influx of magical energy, Nidhogg began to heal at an alarming rate.
Gareth, bracing himself against his battle-axe, rose to his feet. "If we continue like this, it will never end! Finn, you must think of something!"
Finn, however, remained unfazed, his demeanor calm and collected. "There is no need for concern! Victory in this battle shall be ours. The evil god’s ambition and malevolence shall never be able to obscure the radiant light of our heroism!"
The moment Finn’s words left his lips, a portion of the magic circles etched onto Nidhogg’s body shattered with a resounding boom, and the red lines that had been pulsating across its body disintegrated into shimmering particles of light.
On the ground below, Ottar plunged his greatsword deep into the mass of entangled Fallen Sprite avatars, which had coalesced into a towering pillar-like structure.
With a thunderous roar, Ottar heaved his greatsword upward, cleaving the pillar of Fallen Sprite avatars in two.
From another direction, four dwarven warriors, their bodies completely encased in protective armor, moved with astonishing speed and precision, their various weapons flashing through the air as they simultaneously attacked another pillar of Fallen Sprite avatars. Four massive wounds were inflicted upon the pillar, nearly severing it completely.
A swift and agile cat-person descended from the heavens above, delivering the final blow that shattered the pillar of Fallen Sprite avatars into countless fragments.
Freya Familia’s elite forces—the dwarven 〈Flame Gold Four Warriors〉 and the cat-person contingent known as 〈Goddess’s Chariot〉—successfully completed their goddess’s assigned task.
Shakti Varma, the leader of the Ganesha Familia and wielder of the Elephant God’s Staff, expertly directed her Familia’s elite members in their assault against the third pillar of Fallen Sprite avatars.
The fourth pillar of Fallen Sprite avatars was besieged by a coalition of adventurers led by Asfi, the Hermes Familia’s Omnipotent One.
The fifth battlefield was under the command of the Hephaestus Familia. Chun, rather than participating directly in the melee combat, skillfully directed the Familia’s blacksmiths in a devastating bombardment of magical swords.
Even the formidable Fallen Sprites stood little chance of survival under such an overwhelming barrage of firepower.
As for the final pillar of Fallen Sprite avatars...
Drake listened intently to the resonating sound, akin to the mighty clang of a colossal bell tower. He couldn’t help but exclaim, "Truly worthy of being called the seedlings of heroes. The scale of this undertaking is truly awe-inspiring!"
Bell’s Hero’s Wish skill produced a unique sound during its charging phase. The sound began as a faint tinkling of bells, gradually intensifying until it culminated in a powerful, resounding clang of a massive bell.
This sound evoked a surge of fervent excitement in the hearts of those who heard it, but for the monstrous creatures, it was a very different matter indeed.
As the sound of the bell echoed through the confines of the subterranean labyrinth, the last remaining magic circle etched onto Nidhogg’s body finally shattered.
"Now is our chance!"
Drake entered a state of elf-like agility and speed, seizing the opportunity presented by Nidhogg’s momentary distraction caused by the bell’s resonating sound, and charged forward.
Drake’s fist connected squarely with Nidhogg’s magic stone, and the only sound that remained was the incessant cracking of the magic stone as it fractured and disintegrated.
