"Rematch with Laxus"
Laxus hadn’t changed a bit; he was still so... arrogant! Drake sized him up. "Looks like those injuries are all healed up." Laxus frowned, clearly disliking Drake’s sarcastic tone.
He stood. "Drake, you’re back just in time! You’re not like those others; I acknowledge your strength. Come join me in building a new Fairy Tail!"
Drake was puzzled. "I didn’t quite manage to pulverize your skull last time, did I? Why are you spouting such nonsense?
I was the one who won last time, right? And what’s this about acknowledging my strength? Are you trying to make me your right-hand man?
You don’t even have a rudder on your head, what gives you the right to say such things?"
Laxus didn’t understand Drake’s words but knew he’d been rejected.
"It’s always the same! Even someone like you is caught up in these childish games? Then my Fairy Tail has no place for naive fools like you.
But this works out perfectly. Let me settle the score for that previous defeat!"
With that, Laxus’s body erupted in a torrent of yellow lightning, sending the fur coat he was wearing flying.
Drake cracked his knuckles. "All that talk, and it still comes down to a fight, doesn’t it?"
Laxus roared. "Don’t think that one victory means you can keep winning! Your reign of smugness ends here!"
"[Lightning Dragon’s Breakdown Fist!]"
"[Fire Dragon’s Iron Fist!]"
Their fists collided; the cathedral floor tiles were sent flying and shattered into fragments by the combined force of lightning and fire.
Drake tilted his head. "No wonder you were so confident. You’ve gotten stronger, Laxus!"
Laxus’s face contorted with rage. "When will you stop with that high-and-mighty attitude?"
With that, the lightning crackling around his fist became even more ferocious, even managing to overpower Drake, sending him flying backward.
Drake’s feet left long scorch marks on the ground as he slid to a stop. His palms opened wide before snapping shut, crushing the yellow lightning clinging to him like a parasite.
Lightning magic is always troublesome; aside from its immense destructive power, that paralyzing effect is incredibly difficult to deal with.
Laxus wouldn’t let this opportunity slip by; with a powerful leap, he launched himself at Drake, initiating a relentless pursuit.
From their previous exchange, Drake could sense that Laxus had indeed grown stronger; it was clear that he must have undergone grueling training since their last encounter.
However, that didn’t mean Laxus had truly caught up to Drake’s level; on the contrary, Drake had grown exponentially stronger during this time.
Facing Laxus’s charging attack, Drake didn’t retreat; instead, he took a step forward and launched a preemptive strike.
Spreading his palm wide, Drake effortlessly deflected Laxus’s fist. With a swift half-turn of his body, Drake’s elbow connected squarely with Laxus’s chest, sending him flying backward with considerable force.
The sheer power of the blow left Laxus momentarily breathless; his eyes almost bulged out of their sockets.
Drake pressed his advantage, moving forward to deliver the finishing blow, but as Laxus landed on the ground, he looked up and opened his mouth!
"[Lightning Dragon’s Roar!]"
An extremely thin bolt of lightning shot out from Laxus’s mouth.
Sensing the imminent danger, Drake instinctively dodged. The lightning bolt sliced across the ground, leaving a clean path of destruction before continuing its trajectory.
Drake examined the perfectly even, charred mark left on the ground, resembling the smooth cut of a hot knife through butter, as well as the pillar that had been cleanly severed by the lightning bolt.
"A new technique? Not bad!"
Drake was genuinely surprised; Laxus had developed a new technique of terrifying power, showcasing the lightning element’s destructive capabilities to their fullest extent.
"It’s not over yet!"
"[Lightning Dragon’s Jaws!]"
Like a monstrous beast opening its jaws to deliver a devastating bite, Laxus’s attack created a massive crater in the very spot where Drake had been standing moments before. However, this destruction was merely the result of the impact from Laxus’s fist.
Drake, of course, had already evaded the attack, and with a swift flick of his wrist, he unleashed a torrent of Fire Dragon’s Blazing Flames.
Unexpectedly, Laxus didn’t even attempt to dodge; he stood his ground and absorbed the flames directly into his body.
With a wave of his hand, Laxus dispelled the intense heat of the flames, emerging from the inferno with his body completely enveloped in crackling lightning.
Ripping off his scorched shirt, Laxus revealed his upper body, now covered in lightning dragon scales.
"Drake! Is that all you’ve got? If so, then you will fall at my feet today!"
In the next instant, the smug look on Laxus’s face froze. Drake, moving with impossible speed, closed the distance before Laxus could even react, landing a powerful punch to his face that sent him flying.
Drake’s eyes hardened with a newfound seriousness. "Since when did you get the impression that I was holding back?"
Laxus, steadying himself against a pillar that he had knocked over, rose to his feet, his gaze fixed on Drake. "As I suspected, you’ve always been the most troublesome opponent. But this time, I will crush you without hesitation!"
Drake activated Dragon Blood mode, his voice cold and devoid of emotion. "If you can, then try."
In the blink of an eye, the two had charged at each other, the yellow lightning and the crimson flames colliding in a spectacular display of power.
Their fists and feet intertwined in a flurry of blows, the impact of their bodies clashing together with the sound of steel on steel. Fire and lightning swirled around them in a chaotic dance, resembling two colossal beasts locked in a desperate struggle for supremacy.
Drake’s hand-chop struck with devastating precision, shattering the lightning dragon scales protecting Laxus’s chest, and the sickening sound of broken ribs echoed through the chamber.
Yet, Laxus did not even flinch; he didn’t show a single sign of pain. Instead, the pain only seemed to intensify his fighting spirit, igniting a burning rage within him.
Abandoning all thoughts of defense, Laxus unleashed Lightning Dragon’s Crushing Fist in a reckless, all-out assault.
Anticipating this move, Drake swiftly launched a powerful kick, connecting squarely with Laxus’s waist and sending him soaring through the air.
While still airborne, Laxus channeled the power of the lightning coursing through his body, forming a gigantic halberd of pure energy.
"[Lightning Dragon’s Heavenward Halberd!]"
With a mighty heave, Laxus hurled the lightning halberd towards Drake.
Drake’s pursuit was momentarily interrupted, forcing him to raise his fists to shatter the incoming weapon. However, the dissipating lightning coalesced into a cage of crackling energy, trapping Drake within its confines.
Just as Drake managed to break free from the electric prison, Laxus landed on the ground, his head tilted upward as if summoning something.
BOOM!
A deafening roar of thunder echoed through the chamber, and the moment Drake broke free from the electric cage, he saw a massive yellow magic circle open up above him, followed by a colossal bolt of lightning, as thick as a man’s torso, hurtling towards him.
Several seconds later, the lightning dissipated, leaving Laxus slightly breathless from the considerable magical energy he had expended. He turned his gaze towards the spot where the lightning had struck.
"Using such a massive bolt of lightning on me is a bit excessive, don’t you think?"
As if to prove his point, Drake emerged from the smoke, his body slightly singed but otherwise unharmed.
Laxus frowned, his expression a mixture of surprise and annoyance. He had unleashed his full power in that attack, yet the result was far from what he had anticipated.
At that moment, a strange transformation came over Laxus; he began to laugh, a low chuckle that gradually intensified into a booming, unrestrained laughter. The lightning crackling around his body became even more violent and erratic.
"This is... truly interesting!"
Drake frowned, his gaze fixed on the seemingly crazed Laxus. "Enjoy your laughter while you can; you won’t be feeling quite so amused in just a little while."
