Chapter 121: Swarm 1

Chapter 121: Swarm 1

"I have got it covered." The man said.

"You have?" Qin Wu asked, her eyebrow raised in question.

"Mmh." Mo Chenxuan nodded and began explaining.

As the team captain, he was unwilling to let his teammates needlessly die.

However, he also understood that protecting everyone would cast suspicion on the team.

In the end, Mo Chenxuan strained his spiritual ability and protected several other teams, including team Overlord, team Dawn, team Eastern Glory, team Eternal Hope, and three army squadrons.

As a result, team Legends looked powerful but not extraordinary since other teams had also managed to remain intact after the attack.

Hearing the explanation, Qin Wu trembled and squeezed Mo Chenxuan’s hand.

"Tell me the truth, how are you doing?" She asked in a worried voice.

"Drained." Mo Chenxuan revealed.

During the attack, he not only protected several teams but also killed many zombies.

As a result, he was running on fumes and could barely stand.

"The convoy will move after we clean the battlefield. Chenxuan, you can rest while I drive." Qin Wu said but Mo Chenxuan shook his head.

"You are also exhausted." The man said and quickly continued.

"Have you forgotten, I let some of our teammates rest during the latter half of the night. We will use them as designated drivers."

Hearing this, Qin Wu sighed but soon smiled.

"You always think several steps ahead." She said.

"I am the team captain after all."

"Indeed! It’s our responsibility to take care of our team."

As expected, the convoy left the area after cleaning the battlefield.

At this time, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu sat in the back seat while a young man sat in the driver’s seat.

The young man was Sun Cheng, a wind ability user.

Originally, Sun Cheng was part of their new army and for this mission, he was assigned to team Shadow Warriors.

He was also among the group that was allowed to rest in the latter half of the night.

"Keep your guard up and alert us as soon as you notice something off." Qin Wu reminded.

"Don’t worry, I will be careful." Sun Cheng said in a solemn voice.

Hearing the assurance, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu closed their eyes and began resting.

However, even in his rest, Mo Chenxuan forcibly maintained a spiritual ability barrier around himself and Qin Wu.

Thankfully, nothing went wrong over the next three hours.

When the two woke up, the convoy was still moving and the sun was above their heads.

"Did anything happen while we were sleeping?" Qin Wu asked, looking at Sun Cheng.

"Nothing much." Sun Cheng said and quickly continued.

"We encountered some scattered zombies but they were easily dealt with."

While Qin Wu was questioning Sun Cheng, Mo Chenxuan used his spiritual ability to check on the team and the convoy.

After confirming that everything was as it should be, he nodded and leaned on the car seat.

"How many died in the attack?" He suddenly asked.

"Almost three hundred." Sun Cheng answered with a reluctant expression.

"Three hundred..." Qin Wi muttered and narrowed her eyes.

Compared to the base population, three hundred was nothing.

However, the convoy had less than four thousand people and losing three hundred was a big deal.

Most importantly, they still had to survive the swamp and the rest of the journey to the YS Petrochemicals Refinery.

’I hope nothing else will happen.’ She thought.

On one hand, every lost survivor was a loss of fighting power and on the other, losing people meant losing the ability to ferry more fuel.

Considering the winter would last six months, Qin Wu hoped the convoy would ferry back more fuel.

That way, ordinary and weak survivors would have a higher chance of making it through the winter.

The seventh night was peaceful and so was the eighth.

On the morning of the ninth day, the convoy finally entered the swamp area.

The swamp was four hundred metres long on one side of the road and one hundred metres long on the other.

At a glance, the water level was lower than before the apocalypse and swamp vegetation was nowhere to be seen.

However, no one felt at ease from seeing these changes.

Instead, everyone felt tense and became more vigilant as they drove towards the other end of the swamp.

Unfortunately, despite their caution, what couldn’t be avoided was not avoided.

When the first car was almost one hundred metres into the swamp area, a loud buzzing filled the atmosphere.

At the same time, a swarm of dragonflies rose from the swamp and flew towards the convoy.

"Don’t let them get close." A voice was transmitted through walkie-talkies and signal flags.

Fortunately, everyone had prepared for this situation.

As soon as the swarm appeared, many car windows opened and designated people jumped onto the car roofs.

Barely a moment later, clouds of fire expanded from the car roofs and headed towards the dragonflies.

"The flame throwers are effective but unfortunately, they are ordinary weapons and can only kill level one dragonfly zombies." Qin Wu observed.

"It’s enough." Mo Chenxuan said.

After all, most of the swarm was level one.

Once they died, the convoy would be able to focus on the level two dragonflies without being overwhelmed by their number.

"Fortunately, there are no level three dragonflies." Qin Wu said and Mo Chenxuan nodded in agreement.

"Still, we need to leave this place as soon as possible. It won’t do to provoke more insect swarms."

As he spoke, Mo Chenxuan condensed a thunder ball and threw it to the swarm.

Similarly, Qin Wu unleashed more than a dozen space blades and slaughtered thousands of dragonflies.

However, the swarm had millions of dragonflies and cramped together, it looked like a dark cloud was moving towards the convoy.

Seeing this, Qin Wu couldn’t help but shudder.

She had never liked insects.

At this time, she naturally felt her skin crawl seeing so many bugs flying towards her.

’I don’t want to be here.’ She silently screamed but her hands moved faster, trying to kill as many dragonflies as possible.
