Chapter 313 Entering the Base and Accessing Logs

Countless zombies looked up at the flying carriage in the sky.

Their brains, ravaged by the virus, were extremely simple. They stared blankly for a long time, unable to comprehend what the flying object was.

Spider-Man, looking down at the dense sea of heads and hearing the roars around him, felt his scalp tingle.

"With so many zombies, if we hadn't flown over, I really can't imagine any other way."

The Wasp clung to the carriage window, goosebumps rising on her skin.

Torn flesh and blood clung to the zombies, not a single part of them intact.

These zombies, just months ago, were ordinary people who looked forward to tomorrow.

Lin Feng, however, shrugged, feeling indifferent.

It wasn't that he was heartless; he had seen too many apocalyptic scenes, and it no longer fazed him.

Clang!

The carriage landed inside the quarantine zone.

The zombies outside the isolation fence watched quietly, not attacking, eerily silent.

"Alright, everyone out," Lin Feng said, heading for the carriage door.

Spider-Man and the others quickly followed.

The appearance of humans immediately agitated the zombie horde.

But they only roared outside the quarantine zone, daring not to step inside.

It was as if something they feared resided within the base.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s base resembled a square metal box.

There were no markings around the base, and even in satellite detection zones, this area had been erased.

At the center of the base was a distinct metal door.

That was the entrance, requiring authentication to enter this S.H.I.E.L.D. base located in New Zealand.

Spider-Man darted ahead, removed his suit from his arm, and pressed it against the scanner.

"Peter Parker, welcome."

A synthesized female voice announced.

A series of hydraulic mechanisms whirred, and the metal security door slowly opened.

"Alright, let's go in!"

Spider-Man entered first, his senses on full alert.

Danger was everywhere; he couldn't let his guard down based on a single message.

At least Spider-Man was meticulous in this regard.

As soon as humans were detected, lights flickered on throughout the base.

Even without constant management, S.H.I.E.L.D. could enter a low-power standby mode for up to a year on backup power in case of an outage.

"We need to go to the command center," Spider-Man, seemingly familiar with the place, led the way while remaining vigilant.

Lin Feng followed behind him, with the Wasp behind him.

Sandman and the Winter Soldier were at the very back.

The side effects of growing larger would not fully dissipate anytime soon.

The Wasp was kept in the middle of the group, making it easier for everyone to protect her.

Except for Lin Feng, the others were on high alert, as if a zombie might appear around the next corner.

Lin Feng casually scanned the surroundings; there was no danger.

"You have S.H.I.E.L.D. base clearance?"

Once he confirmed there was no immediate threat, Lin Feng, feeling curious, initiated a conversation with Spider-Man.

At this point in time, Spider-Man should not have been a member of the Avengers.

Lin Feng had been ready to force his way through earlier, and he hadn't expected Spider-Man to have clearance to enter and exit S.H.I.E.L.D. bases.

Upon hearing this, Spider-Man's eyes dimmed.

"Mr. Stark gave it to me."

"Just before he lost his mind..."

"After that, he completely turned into a zombie..."

So that was it.

It was to be expected of Spider-Man's "adoptive father."

Even in his final moments, he was thinking of protecting Spider-Man.

Mentioning Tony visibly saddened Spider-Man again.

Tony was one of the few who cared about him, even if he was a bit sharp-tongued.

"What generation has Tony's armor technology advanced to?"

Lin Feng pondered for a moment and then asked the question.

"I don't know, but I saw him wear a nanotech suit last time."

"The super cool kind, was it Mark 50? Or some Mark number?"

Spider-Man shook his head, indicating he wasn't entirely sure.

The suit was indeed very cool, but Mr. Stark would probably never wear it again...

Spider-Man's answer left Lin Feng speechless.

Now he couldn't determine when this universe's timeline was.

However, Mark 50 would be at least from the time of Avengers: Infinity War.

"Look, the command center is up ahead."

Spider-Man pointed to a room at the end of the corridor.

As they talked, they had reached the core of the base, the command center.

This could be considered the safest place in the entire base.

The command center was circular, with incredibly thick metal walls surrounding it.

It could likely survive even a nuclear explosion.

They entered the command center.

Various monitoring instruments in the command center were still running.

The scenes from around the base were displayed on the screens.

However, strangely, there was no one present.

Spider-Man walked to the control console and, after a flurry of activity on the virtual keyboard, brought up the AI assistant.

"Assistant, are there any other survivors in this base?"

The answer he received was no.

That was strange. Who sent the message?

Did they perish after sending it?

Spider-Man frowned, feeling that things were not as simple as they seemed, and then instructed the AI assistant to retrieve the base logs.

The base had entered a wartime state.

According to the clearance Tony had given Spider-Man, he could utilize all resources except for weapons of mass destruction.

Spider-Man frowned as he began to sift through the useful information.

Lin Feng, on the other hand, acted as if nothing was wrong, slumping into a chair.

Hmm, as expected of the command center's chair, soft and comfortable.

Glancing at the Wasp and the others who were still on guard, Lin Feng waved his hand. "Have a seat, everyone."

"Don't worry, there are no zombies in this base."

"Oh no, I mean no living zombies."

As he spoke, Lin Feng pointed to his eyes. "You should know, Superman has x-ray vision."

After his words, the Winter Soldier lowered his weapon, which he had been holding up, and walked behind Spider-Man to review the logs with him.

Since Superman said there was no problem, it was likely safe.

The Wasp also relaxed her vigilance somewhat and sat on a chair, just like Lin Feng.

She had expended too much energy earlier, and any rest was beneficial.

Lin Feng retrieved some food from his system space and tossed it to them.

The Wasp didn't stand on ceremony, tearing open the packaging and eating.

At a time like this, there was no room for politeness; recovering energy was paramount.

"Thanks..." Sandman said gratefully in a gruff voice.

Lin Feng shook his head and took out more food, placing it on the console for Spider-Man and the Winter Soldier.

Watching Lin Feng conjure these items as if by magic, the Wasp was somewhat curious.

"Is this spatial technology?"

Influenced by her father, the Wasp knew a little about science and technology and was quite interested in it.

"Sort of," Lin Feng chuckled vaguely.

System space was indeed a form of spatial technology, but it was more complex and not something that Earth technology could replicate.

Lin Feng himself didn't fully understand the principles behind it.

Lin Feng could also create small spaces to store items, but the system space was much more convenient, and Lin Feng was too lazy to do it himself.
