Lin Feng hadn't expected Clark to take him to the farm, the very farm his mother had lost to the bank due to unpaid loans. Clark landed and opened the door, inviting Lin Feng inside. Lin Feng stepped in; most of the furniture was gone, but thankfully, a table and a few chairs remained.
Clark said with a touch of embarrassment, "Bruce helped me with the paperwork. I'll be able to move back here soon. Have a seat, and I'll get you some coffee..." Clark gestured to a chair, indicating for Lin Feng to sit. Lin Feng didn't mind and plopped down, taking in the place where Clark had grown up.
"What about your mother?" Lin Feng asked.
"She's with Lois... Once the paperwork is done, we'll need to move the furniture back."
Lin Feng nodded. Clark's living environment was excellent, a two-story house nestled within the farm. Lin Feng had once dreamed of such a life, but before his transmigration, he couldn't afford it. With the help of his wealthy friends, Lin Feng now had a larger residence, but it lacked Clark's natural, serene surroundings.
"Coffee..." Clark returned with two cups of coffee and sat opposite Lin Feng. Lin Feng took a sip; it was very hot, but for Superman, it was nothing. He put down the cup and nodded at Clark. "Ask what you want to ask. I'll tell you everything I know."
Clark held his coffee cup, looking hesitant. "I want to know, am I truly the only one with Kryptonian blood in this world?"
To save Earth, Clark had snapped Zod's neck. For Earth, it was an act of justice. However, for Kryptonians, Clark was the destroyer of his last kin, excluding himself, of course. This had left Clark in a state of confusion and profound loneliness for a long time. Thankfully, he had Martha and Lois's companionship. Otherwise, Clark didn't know if he would ever emerge from his daze, or how long it would take.
Lin Feng had anticipated Clark's question and wasn't surprised at all. "As far as I know, you should be the only Kryptonian left in this universe."
Hearing Lin Feng's answer, a flicker of disappointment crossed Clark's eyes. "So it's true..." Clark slowly swirled his coffee cup, lost in thought. This was, in a way, expected. When Zod arrived on Earth, Clark already knew Krypton was destroyed, and his birth parents had perished then. After Zod himself was dealt with, Clark understood he was the last Kryptonian. However, Lin Feng's appearance had given him a glimmer of hope – the same Superman suit, the same Superman abilities. He had momentarily believed that a group of Kryptonians lived secretly, unknown to him. Yet, the result was that Lin Feng wasn't a Kryptonian from this universe.
Sensing Clark's disappointment, Lin Feng shook his head, a hint of amusement in his expression. He understood Clark's loneliness, born from being the last of his kind. Imagine being the only human left in the universe – how lonely, how desperate that would be.
"Clark, do you know about parallel universes?" Lin Feng asked, subtly prompting Clark.
"Parallel universes?" Clark paused at Lin Feng's question, then nodded. "I knew about them, but I thought they were just speculation. It wasn't until I saw you that I believed in their existence..."
Seeing Lin Feng's smile and silence, a thought struck Clark. "Are there Kryptonians in parallel universes?"
Lin Feng smiled and nodded. "That's right. In countless parallel universes, there are countless Kryptonians."
"Clark, you are not alone!"
"As far as I know, in one of those parallel universes, there's another you."
"And in that parallel universe, you have a cousin."
"Cousin?" Clark stared intently at Lin Feng. As Lin Feng spoke, Clark's eyes brightened with the joy of knowing he had kin. Even if they were in different universes.
"Yes, her name is Kara Zor-El," Lin Feng nodded and continued. "In that universe, Krypton was also facing extinction. Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth to protect the you of that world. But her spacecraft was caught in an explosion and fell into the Phantom Zone. It wasn't until 24 years later that she accidentally crash-landed on Earth... She, like the you of that world, protects Earth, protects its citizens..."
Lin Feng's brow furrowed, and he stopped speaking.
"What's wrong? Lin Feng?" Clark, who had been listening intently, asked in confusion when Lin Feng suddenly paused.
Lin Feng didn't answer. He suddenly realized that characters in parallel worlds had a high degree of similarity. Although there was no such information in the movies, if Kara Zor-El existed in a parallel world, could she exist in this one? Lin Feng pondered for a moment, hesitant to share this speculation with Clark. If he did, it would undoubtedly give Clark another surge of hope. But if this universe didn't have Kara Zor-El, Clark would likely be disappointed once more.
"Lin Feng, just say it if you have something to say!" Clark, sensing Lin Feng's hesitation, spoke directly. He guessed Lin Feng might have thought of information related to him.
Lin Feng looked at Clark, his expression complex, a mix of pleading, hope, and gravity. With a sigh, Lin Feng revealed his speculation. As expected, this guess resonated with Clark. His mind began to race, contemplating how he would find his cousin if she existed in this world. However, the information was too sparse, and after much thought, Clark found no solution. He couldn't help but ask Lin Feng again, "Lin Feng, do you have any way to help me verify if my cousin exists?"
Lin Feng shook his head; he couldn't confirm Kara's existence. Finally, Lin Feng offered a suggestion: "You should spend more time basking in the sun in space, Clark!"
"With greater strength, things often become simpler. If you can't confirm her existence now, then become stronger!"
"Oh, and keep a close eye on Barry. That kid is not simple when he runs," Lin Feng winked at Clark meaningfully, "Maybe one day, he'll run into another universe."
Finishing his coffee, Lin Feng stood up to say goodbye. He had shared all the information he had with Clark. He hoped Kara truly existed in this universe, so Clark would at least have some kin. Clark stood to see him off, but Lin Feng waved and ascended into the sky.
In the following two days, Diana took Lin Feng on a tour of Metropolis. Barry took him to try many delicious foods. Aquaman Arthur offered to take Lin Feng fishing underwater. Even Bruce inquired if he had any needs. Only Victor was somewhat more conventional; he gifted Lin Feng a pair of self-made headphones. The sides of the headphones bore Superman's 'S' insignia. He believed that as Superman, the work was tiring, and these meticulously crafted high-quality headphones would provide Lin Feng with relaxation. Lin Feng actually wanted to remark that his own world had these things, that he wasn't unworldly. But their kindness was hard to refuse, and Lin Feng didn't want to disappoint them.
After two days of revelry, under the watchful eyes of a crowd of superheroes, Lin Feng stepped through a portal and bid farewell to the DC universe.
