Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Already Henpecked at Such a Young Age (1)
The next day.
Upon waking up, Raina received a court notification.
It mentioned a trial regarding deaths caused by a cancer drug, asking her to attend on time.
Raina glanced at the time twice; the day had finally come, and it was crucial not to miss it.
The Hawthorne Manor.
"Two days! It’s been two days! Still haven’t found Elias Hawthorne?"
Colin bowed his head: "No, there’s currently no news about the young master."
"No news about him at the moment, then when will there be news, when he’s dead?"
Bang!
Old Mrs. Hawthorne struck her cane heavily, shouting angrily: "Shut up! What nonsense are you talking about? How can you curse your own son like that?"
"I just made a slip of the tongue." Vincent Hawthorne looked embarrassed, paused for a moment, but couldn’t help saying, "Mom, since you care so much about Elias, why do you allow him to mess around like this? Don’t you know that things could turn out badly and he might lose his life? Can’t you control him?"
Old Mrs. Hawthorne glanced at Vincent and said, "I can’t even control my own son, how could I control my grandson?"
Vincent couldn’t help but recall his rebellious past, taking a deep breath: "Mom, let’s not bring up the past. The most important thing now is Elias and Baby. This—it’s been so many days; we couldn’t find them alive or dead. We can’t continue to let them go unnoticed!"
"Have I indulged them? What can an old lady like me indulge?"
"Don’t you have Raina’s phone number? You should have her bring Elias and Baby back!"
Old Mrs. Hawthorne looked at Vincent with frustration and snapped back: "Why should I have Raina hand them over?"
"You’re the matriarch of The Hawthorne Family! Also Elias’ grandmother. Naturally, you have the authority!"
"Raina is still Elias’ wife, isn’t she? Why should an old lady like me ask a wife to hand over her husband and son?"
"Mom!" Vincent shouted angrily: "Is this really the time for you to cause more trouble?"
"Trouble? How dare you call this trouble? Isn’t this just how Susan Kensington stopped me back then? Now I’m a generation apart from Elias, why should I step in? Because I have more wrinkles on this old lady’s face?"
Vincent was at a loss for words, and despite trying to argue, Old Mrs. Hawthorne simply pretended not to hear him or countered with what Susan had said back then.
Vincent: "..."
He always thought Susan was educated and reasonable; how could she say such things?
Yet, the deep memories in his mind denied him the ability to reject them.
Vincent had no choice but to leave in a huff, swinging his sleeves.
Old Mrs. Hawthorne watched the angry silhouette of her son leave, shaking her head. Truly, this boy was lucky to have a capable father and a son even more successful than the predecessor; otherwise, the vast family fortune might have been squandered long ago!
...
The Hawthorne Medical Wing.
Aidan Lynch pushed open the door and entered: "President Hawthorne, the court date has been set."
"Yes, I know."
"Do you need a defense attorney?"
"Raina hasn’t said, so probably not. However, it’s good to be prepared, better safe than sorry."
Aidan eyed Elias Hawthorne: "President Hawthorne, there’s one thing you might’ve overlooked."
Elias raised an eyebrow: "What is it?"
"You might have overlooked the fact that at your young age, you’ve already become quite under your wife’s control!"
Elias narrowed his gaze at Aidan: "You’re so sour. If you’re envious or jealous, just find a woman and get married yourself. Considering our long association, I’ll cover all the wedding expenses."
Aidan quickly waved his hands: "No, no, I think being single is great, I don’t want to lose my mind like you." He hurriedly handed over the documents he brought: "Come on, President Hawthorne, quickly sign these."
Elias didn’t react, lazily saying: "Raina instructed me to ’play dead’ these days. Have you ever seen a dead man signing documents? Or a man defying his wife’s instructions?"
Aidan: "..."
Aidan fumed.
But what could he do, even while exasperated?
He had no choice but to diligently sign the documents.
After signing, Aidan belatedly realized: "These documents can’t be sent out even when signed."
