Chapter 38: Chapter 38: My Money Flew Away (Part 2)
The little rascal didn’t move, as if in a meditative trance.
Old Mrs. Hawthorne wore a stern expression.
Elias Hawthorne: "Don’t make me say it a second time!"
Baby Hawthorne still didn’t move.
"Since you’re going on a hunger strike, you might as well skip tomorrow’s meals too." Elias Hawthorne summoned the butler and ordered, "What are you standing there for? Remove the young master’s meals."
"This..."
Elias Hawthorne’s face darkened: "What? Didn’t you hear what I said?"
"Why are you yelling!" Before the butler could speak, Old Mrs. Hawthorne couldn’t hold back anymore, slapping the dining table and angrily saying: "You can show off here at home, but why can’t you bring your wife back!"
"Oh, I’m just a pitiful old lady, none of my children or grandchildren are promising at all. They’re all grown up, and they can’t even keep a wife. Poor me, at this age, still have to work for this family. Boohoo..."
"Grandma Zane." Baby slid down from the chair, rushed into Old Mrs. Hawthorne’s arms, and cried: "Baby is so pitiful too; finally found mom, and then dad pushed her away. Am I destined to be a child with a father to raise me but no mother to love me? Boohoo..."
"My poor great-grandson, oh, why is your fate so miserable! Heaven, open your eyes please."
Looking at the old and the young crying in each other’s arms, Elias Hawthorne’s face grew even colder: "Even if you cry until the sky falls, it won’t help."
An hour later.
Elias Hawthorne dialed Jasper Hawthorne’s number: "Where’s Raina North? Bring her back to me."
"Sister-in-law? Brother, didn’t you go to pick up sister-in-law? Didn’t she come back with you? Did she throw a tantrum with you? Damn, with the luck she had marrying into your family, she dared to not cherish you. Brother, hold on, I’ll track her location right away. How dare she mess with my dear brother, she must have a death wish."
After a torrent of words, Jasper Hawthorne hung up the phone and immediately went to investigate.
Looking at the disconnected phone, Elias Hawthorne pressed his temples even harder, once again feeling the weight of exhaustion.
Baby Hawthorne couldn’t understand his own father’s distress at all, staring expectantly at the phone in his hand.
Not long after, Jasper Hawthorne sent the exact address.
Baby Hawthorne’s little face immediately brightened, jumping down from the chair, and ran over to grab the car keys.
Seeing his son’s rare enthusiasm, Elias Hawthorne helplessly ruffled his hair.
Raina North returned from the auction full of goods, got out of the car, and went to the supermarket, buying a whole bunch of groceries.
Casper North saw Raina North coming back with bags and packages, eyes wide: "Mommy, did you rob a bank?"
"Of course not; am I such a tasteless person?"
"Then why are you so generous today?" Casper North was puzzled.
Raina North glanced over: "It’s easy to be generous when it’s someone else’s money."
"Someone else’s?" Casper North was bewildered and then panicked, rushing to his room.
Soon there came the sound of heart-wrenching shouting from the bedroom: "No! No! No!"
Raina North couldn’t help but curl her lips into a joyful smile.
"Mommy." Casper North walked out with a face full of sorrow, feeling pitiful, wronged, his heart bleeding, "How could you shamelessly swallow your poor son’s little savings?"
"No shame at all, that’s my dowry money." Raina North smiled brightly.
Casper North instantly forgot his heartbreak and grievance, shrinking his head, feeling guilty, and whispered: "I’m just trying to earn more money to support big brother and Shea in the future."
Imagine him bearing the family burden at such a young age, life is too tough for him.
