Chapter 173 Eat Freely Without Paying

"Emergency call? What call so early in the morning? And who would know I live here?"

Wang Yu pondered as he followed the service attendant downstairs and took the call at the front desk.

"Hello? This is Wang Yu."

As soon as Wang Yu spoke, a heavy voice from Secretary Yang came from the other end of the phone.

"Little Wang, I have some bad news for you."

"Hmm? Secretary, what's wrong?" Wang Yu was startled.

It was Secretary Yang, so it wasn't surprising he could find him, especially since his current residence was arranged by him.

"I'm very sorry. I don't want to be the one to tell you this," Secretary Yang's voice was somber. "But I have to tell you, you need to be mentally prepared."

"What happened, Secretary?" Wang Yu's expression turned serious. The secretary's tone was so grave, could it be a significant problem?

"There are three things I need to tell you, and none of them are good news."

Secretary Yang's words surprised Wang Yu. There was a saying, "When misfortune reaches its extreme, good fortune begins to arise." Was he experiencing the opposite? He had good luck with a few things yesterday, and now something was happening today? Truly, the weather is unpredictable.

"Please tell me, Secretary, I'm listening."

"The first thing is about the exhibition slots for the Dongzhou Industrial Expo that you asked me to help with. The provincial government has already allocated all the slots. We were too late, and every spot is taken. There's really nothing we can do now," Secretary Yang said with a heavy sigh.

"Oh, this? I've already solved this problem." Wang Yu breathed a sigh of relief and quickly explained his arrangements with the passenger bus factory. This immediately drew a wave of praise from Secretary Yang.

"I didn't realize you had this kind of ability, kid! Truly, appearances can be deceiving! Oh dear, I almost thought I'd have to break my promise to you!" Secretary Yang clearly relaxed on the other end of the phone.

"However, there are two other rather troublesome matters that you need to pay attention to. First, the situation between you and Qinglu Group has become a hot topic, and provincial leaders have summoned me for an inquiry." Secretary Yang's tone shifted.

"Although they are a key overseas unit we're attracting investment from, our province has always lacked a benchmark for domestic enterprises. The higher-ups are very optimistic about you and want to establish you as a model unit. Therefore, this competition can only be won, not lost, do you understand?"

Having said this, perhaps feeling his tone was too severe, Secretary Yang softened his voice and continued,

"Little Wang, I know this is a lot of pressure. I may not understand the technology, but I know their team consists of world-class talents. However, since you've earned Elder Zhou's high praise and dared to accept this challenge, you must have some real skills. Therefore, I hope you will go all out to bring glory to our country this time!"

Hearing this, Wang Yu relaxed. "Secretary, please rest assured. You know my character, I'm not one to boast. I will definitely give you a satisfactory answer in this competition."

"Excellent, then I'll await your good news!" Secretary Yang said from the other end of the phone.

"Yes, Secretary, didn't you say there was a third matter?" Wang Yu asked again.

"The third matter." Secretary Yang paused before slowly speaking, "Was there something about your intention to acquire the steel mill?"

"Yes, that's right. We are currently in negotiations," Wang Yu nodded. "It was almost finalized. I planned to complete it as soon as I returned from the provincial capital."

"Not as soon as possible, it needs to be finalized immediately." Secretary Yang's voice was filled with helplessness. "The workers at the steel mill have been protesting and causing trouble, and it's getting worse. We can't forcibly suppress them, so we can only try to communicate and ease the situation. Therefore... it's all up to you!"

At this point, Secretary Yang's words held a sense of resignation, as this was somewhat of a disadvantage for Wang Yu. However, he had no other choice.

The workers at the steel mill were a highly unstable factor, and they had genuinely suffered losses. They could not be forcibly suppressed because of this!

Therefore, Wang Yu had to be the one to quickly take over as the "savior"!

"Is that so? Alright. I'll arrange it immediately upon my return." Wang Yu didn't say much more and expressed his understanding to the secretary over the phone.

After the call ended, Secretary Yang, far away in Jiangyang County, sighed helplessly. His original intention was to support this young man, but now it seemed he was becoming increasingly reliant on him for everything.

Meanwhile, Wang Yu, after hanging up the phone, furrowed his brow slightly.

The first two matters the secretary mentioned were not problems. The crucial issue was the steel mill, and he suspected there was something going on with Yang Song.

Thinking back to his strange behavior earlier, Wang Yu felt the situation was not simple.

Never mind, let's take it one step at a time!

As he was contemplating, Wang Yu ran into Wu Lingling, who was also coming downstairs.

"You're up? Want to go out for breakfast together?" Wang Yu said with a smile to Wu Lingling.

Guesthouses of this era didn't usually provide breakfast; guests had to make their own arrangements.

So, Wang Yu decided to go out and look for some breakfast stalls to grab a quick meal before heading to the passenger bus factory later to sign the contract and discuss cooperation.

"Sure." Wu Lingling smiled and nodded, then leaned closer to him, sniffing the air intently.

"It serves you right. It looks like you took a good bath last night. Stay away from that big bear, he's dirty and stinks."

Relieved that she didn't smell anything, Wu Lingling then instructed him.

"What do you mean big bear? You can't just give people nicknames randomly," Wang Yu said helplessly. "Besides, he was going through a difficult time, so it's normal for him to be a bit unkempt. You shouldn't talk about others like that."

"That's just how it is, am I wrong?"

Wu Lingling grumbled impolitely. As they chatted and laughed, they walked out of the guesthouse. They were lucky; after just a few steps, they spotted a breakfast stall.

"Boss, two bowls of wontons, one with extra spicy." Wang Yu and Wu Lingling immediately went to the stall and sat down.

The extra spicy bowl was for Wu Lingling, who loved spicy food. However, Wang Yu felt it was better to eat lighter in the morning.

"Certainly," the boss replied with a smile, and shortly after, he brought out two steaming bowls of wontons.

"Smells good," Wang Yu smiled, about to pick up his chopsticks.

But he saw that the boss didn't leave. Instead, he brought over a plate of sesame oil flatbreads, a basket of steamed buns, a portion of steamed dumplings, and a serving of fried dough sticks.

Four dishes of breakfast were neatly placed in front of Wang Yu and Wu Lingling.

"Uh, boss, I didn't order this much," Wang Yu was a bit stunned.

"It's alright, no charge. Eat as much as you like," the boss, a honest-looking dark-skinned man in his forties, said with a very hearty smile.
