Chapter 268: Chapter 268: Wanting to Have It Both Ways
Lu Ye: [Give me a break! There are plenty of men out there—why can’t you just pick one to sleep with? If you really can’t find anyone, I can help you scout for a muscular, fiery, and skilled guy!]
Melancholy: [...]
[What are you imagining? I just want to use your "personal assistant" title to sneak into the recording building for *Who’s the Acting King*. That’s all.]
Sang Ning wanted something that required her to personally make a trip to the building. However, since she’d already been eliminated from the show, she no longer had the eligibility to enter. She had to think of another way to get inside.
Lu Ye had already sensed that something was off: [What are you planning to do? There are plenty of ways to get into the building—you’re pretty close to Qin Kai and Wang Qiuhong, right? Why don’t you ask them?]
Melancholy: [Their mental resilience isn’t as strong as yours. You’re the only one I trust.]
Sang Ning didn’t mean to belittle Qin Kai and Wang Qiuhong. It was just that those two naive fools were way too honest, making it easy for anyone to tell when they were lying.
Lu Ye, on the other hand, wasn’t the same. He carried himself with an air of brazen arrogance, as though he were some frivolous rich kid. And, thanks to the connections behind him, the production team treated him with excessive courtesy, terrified of offending him.
If Sang Ning disguised herself as his personal assistant, perhaps the staff at the security point wouldn’t scrutinize her too closely.
So that’s what Sang Ning meant.
Lu Ye finally let out a relieved sigh—it had scared him halfway to a heart attack.
But then, he started to feel conflicted about whether he should really help Sang Ning.
Helping her would mean openly challenging Qingyue and Haichuan. If he offended Haichuan, his uncle would likely be the first to make an example out of him.
Though torn, Lu Ye didn’t wrestle with the decision for long. He quickly agreed to Sang Ning’s request.
[Alright then, hurry up and wait for me at the building entrance!]
After all, Sang Ning trusted him this much, had so much faith in his capabilities—how could he let her down?
Melancholy: [I’m already there.]
Lu Ye suddenly felt as though he’d walked straight into a trap: [Be honest—did you already dig the pit and you’re just waiting for me to fall into it?]
Sang Ning swore, she genuinely wasn’t scheming against Lu Ye intentionally.
She lived pretty close to the recording building, so even if Lu Ye didn’t offer his help, she had already made up her mind to get in somehow today.
Melancholy: [I’ve never liked pressuring people. If you don’t want to help, just tell me.]
Lu Ye: [I’m a man—my word is my bond. Just wait for me there!]
Lu Ye hated it when people used reverse psychology on him, mainly because he really fell for it every time. Though Sang Ning hadn’t pushed him too hard, he still had this inexplicable feeling that if he didn’t help her today, he’d be mocked mercilessly!
**
The car finally pulled up in front of the building, and Lu Ye immediately swung the door open and rushed out.
His agent was utterly baffled. Normally, Lu Ye acted as if he didn’t even have hands and always waited for him to get out first and open the door before begrudgingly stepping out himself.
But why had he suddenly decided to act so "mature" today, and even take the initiative to get out of the car on his own?
Strange behavior always signals something unusual. Fearing that Lu Ye was up to some kind of mischief, the agent hurriedly pushed his door open and followed him.
As soon as he stepped out, he saw Lu Ye heading straight for a woman so heavily disguised that her appearance was entirely obscured.
Lu Ye jogged up to Sang Ning and delivered the secret code: "King Covering Earth Tiger."
The woman whose face was still hidden responded, "Kitten Catches Mouse."
Suddenly, Lu Ye’s voice was brimming with excitement: "I knew it was you! I could recognize you from miles away!"
Sang Ning: ???
She thought her disguise had been flawless.
"Are my personal identifiers *that* obvious?" Sang Ning’s anxiety crept in. If someone at the security checkpoint recognized her later, what would she do?
Lu Ye sneered, "Oh, absolutely! Whenever you show up somewhere, even the air grows polluted."
Her fist tightened. She wanted to kill him—what now?
With her whole body wrapped up, only a pair of sharp eyes remained visible at the moment, glaring at Lu Ye with a piercing intensity as if she were trying to burn holes into him.
Just when Sang Ning was about to kick him, Lu Ye’s agent came rushing over, flustered.
"Bro, if you’re heading somewhere, can you at least give me a heads-up? It’d be nice to have time to open the car door for you."
After delivering his opening complaints, the agent gazed at Sang Ning with suspicion, sizing her up thoroughly. He then turned to Lu Ye. "Bro, who’s this lovely lady? Why haven’t I seen her before?"
Sang Ning finally let out a breath of relief. Fortunately, her disguise had worked—it seemed that at the very least, Lu Ye’s agent hadn’t recognized her. That was despite the fact she had crossed paths with him multiple times.
"Can’t you figure it out?" Lu Ye shot his agent a condescending look, as if he were dealing with a fool.
Sang Ning’s eyes should’ve been distinct enough for recognition; only a blind person wouldn’t realize it was her.
"This is—" Lu Ye almost blurted out Sang Ning’s name, but the instant he was met with an icy glare, he forcibly swallowed his words.
Thank goodness Sang Ning had reminded him—otherwise, if the agent knew he was interacting with her in secret, he’d probably go running to his uncle to report him immediately.
"This is my personal assistant for today," Lu Ye coughed lightly and said.
The agent’s eyes widened instantly, his expression turning incredulous: "Bro... you’ve fallen so far. Didn’t you say you’d never stoop this low?"
The agent had always felt that Lu Ye had the temper of a spoiled rich boy, but one redeeming trait was his respect for women. Yet now Lu Ye was voluntarily hiring a personal assistant?
Ugh, the entertainment industry truly was a cesspool—it could corrupt anyone.
Lu Ye’s face darkened as he snapped at the agent, "Shut up! Can you stop being so loud?"
If he was caught sneaking Sang Ning into the building, he’d already be feeling guilty enough to implode. Saying too much risked exposing them, so he went silent instead.
The world was going downhill—what a disgrace!
Internally, the agent couldn’t stop sighing in frustration. Lu Ye was getting more unreasonable by the second. Today was supposed to be a serious rehearsal day, yet even then he couldn’t resist sneaking an assistant inside. How unbearable.
"Here, wear this," the agent reluctantly said, pulling out a pair of sunglasses from his bag and handing them to Sang Ning.
Sang Ning looked perplexed, her eyes filled with confusion.
She wanted to ask what the agent meant, but remembering Lu Ye’s repeated warnings not to reveal her identity, she opted to remain silent.
After all, she wasn’t sure if Lu Ye’s agent could recognize her voice.
"Your eyes are just too captivating. If you leave them uncovered, I’m worried Lu Ye won’t be able to keep it together. He has serious business to attend to today—daytime rehearsals, you know!" The agent spoke confidently.
Sang Ning: "..."
Lu Ye couldn’t take the nonsense anymore. Even if every woman in the world dropped dead, he still wouldn’t fall for Sang Ning, the walking definition of "rage-inducing banshee."
He clenched his fist and delivered a righteous pummel to the agent: "Can you shut your damn mouth? My reputation’s in *shreds* because of you!"
Receiving a random beating, the agent silently cursed Lu Ye in his heart.
Ugh—so hypocritical. Utterly repugnant!
