Chapter 36 Search IV
His face was covered in wrinkles like tree bark, but his eyes were very bright.
Standing at the door, Li Cheng颐 recognized the old man's identity at a glance.
‘Dongdi·Jiaji’er.’
Those eyes were almost identical to those of the boy in the photo.
“Can he come out for a meeting?” Li Cheng颐 asked.
"Sure, who are you to him? This old man has no family, no relatives, no friends, no acquaintances. No one has visited him in all the years he's been here. You're the first." The plump nurse asked curiously.
She wasn't worried about any problems, after all, Jiaji’er had no assets and relied entirely on the social welfare system to survive to this day. There was no money to be made.
"It's like this, we are conducting a special investigation into the Leizi earthquake that year. We want to understand this aspect in depth and prepare for future papers." Song Ran immediately started talking nonsense.
Fortunately, the plump nurse didn't care about papers. After being stuffed with some extra money, she readily brought Jiaji’er out and gave them a small room to talk in.
The ward was sunny, with metal railings on the window, and the scent of flowers and plants was carried in by the wind.
Jiaji’er sat upright on a small metal chair, looking curiously at Li Cheng頤 and Song Ran as they walked in.
"Mr. Jiaji’er? Can you talk about how you were rescued from underground back then?" Li Cheng頤 walked closer and asked softly.
"Don't know." Jiaji’er replied in a brisk voice.
"Didn't you end up hiding in a crack in the wall? And waited slowly for a long time before you were rescued?" Li Cheng頤 continued, ignoring his answer.
"Can't remember." Jiaji’er smiled.
"Can't remember anything?" Li Cheng頤 frowned slightly.
"Yes, I've forgotten everything." Jiaji’er answered in standard Mandarin, without any border accent.
"What about this?" Li Cheng頤 suddenly stretched out his hand and took out a V-shaped metal tag.
The name was clearly engraved on the tag: Dongdi·Jiaji’er.
"Is this yours?" Li Cheng頤 stared seriously at the other person's face, not letting go of any change.
"Don't know." But to his disappointment, Jiaji’er was still sitting in the chair, motionless, with a naive smile on his face.
"Then do you remember your parents? How did they die?" Song Ran couldn't help but ask from behind.
"Forgotten." Jiaji’er shook his head, his expression unchanged.
Li Cheng頤 frowned.
He thought that the tag he brought could slightly awaken the other party's memory, but now it seemed that he was thinking too much.
He thought for a while.
He suddenly took out his mobile phone, found a clear photo, and put it in front of Jiaji’er.
"Have you ever seen this?"
What was placed in front of Jiaji’er was an enlarged, dark red symbol, shaped like a twisted m, or a crawling person.
But…
"Never seen it." Jiaji’er's expression did not change, his eyes were clear, and he had no reaction at all when he looked at the symbol.
Li Cheng頤 let out a breath, staring at the other person's expression, but couldn't see any traces.
Jiaji’er had no reaction to this symbol at all.
Then, he asked the other party a lot about the Geliwusi parking lot, but unfortunately, he didn't get any clues.
It wasn't until the nurse came in to rush them out because it was rest time that the two reluctantly left the ward.
Down in the courtyard on the first floor.
Li Cheng頤 held the tag he found in Geliwusi, feeling depressed.
He thought he had found a clue to break the situation, but he didn't expect…
"It's okay, it doesn't matter, we still have time, we can continue to investigate." Song Ran said in a low voice on the side.
"Indeed, there is still time, but the key is that the clues are now broken…" Li Cheng颐 replied.
"If you can find out how Jiaji’er escaped from Geliwusi back then, and then you do the same, it should be effective. The theory of the last survivor, this is a method that the boss's previous recruits personally tried and found effective." Song Ran reminded.
"I understand." Li Cheng頤 had also read the information and received advice from the company's think tank, so he knew this method.
"Back then, Jiaji’er hid in the crevice. The only thing we know is that he was rescued from the crevice, but before that, we don't know what he did inside."
Li Cheng頤 said: "It's not the first time I've entered the crevice. I've been there twice, but it's useless. I only escaped from Geliwusi after someone died."
"In other words, finding out what he did in the crevice before being rescued is the key." Song Ran also frowned.
Looking at Jiaji’er's condition, he can't remember anything, and his intelligence is like that of a child, so there's no way to investigate.
Standing in the courtyard, the two were at a loss for a while.
"The night is deep, the night is deep, there will always be someone outside the window."
"Who is it, who is it, it's a fat, big guy."
"You say one sentence, I say one sentence, not afraid of the dark, not afraid of bears."
"Likes to laugh, will also cry, close your eyes and count."
"One, two, three, four, five, open your eyes and you will lose."
Li Cheng頤 frowned slightly and saw an old bald man next to him, holding a rattle drum, shaking it back and forth to keep the rhythm, and singing a song he had never heard before.
It seemed to be a children's song, but these lyrics… for some reason, Li Cheng頤 felt a little strange.
"What song is this? I've never heard it before." Li Cheng颐 looked at Song Ran.
"Same here, first time hearing it." Song Ran shrugged. "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
"Wait, I'll search it." Li Cheng頤 took out his mobile phone, quickly entered the text, and clicked search.
Soon.
A line of related information kept popping up.
Most of them were advertising links, and a small part were games.
Li Cheng頤 stood there, frowning and constantly flipping through the pages.
Suddenly, his finger paused.
"Found it!"
Song Ran was stunned and leaned closer to look at the mobile phone screen together.
‘From the Geliwusi nursery rhyme "Kind Buruu," it is said to be one of the lullabies created by people in the eastern mountain and forest areas of Geliwusi for children who can't sleep at night.’
"There's nothing wrong with it?" Song Ran shook his head.
"There's nothing wrong with it…" Li Cheng頤 breathed a long sigh of relief, "Maybe I'm too sensitive."
He put down his mobile phone and saw Dongdi·Jiaji’er, who was being pushed out by a nurse to bask in the sun, not far away.
He thought he had finally found a clue, but now he was still stuck at the last step.
‘The crevice must be the key to escape. What did Jiaji’er do in the crevice in the end that led to his rescue? Sleep? Hum a song? Zone out? Or carve words?’
According to the survivor theory, the most likely way for him to escape the blind spot is to do exactly what Jiaji’er did back then.
But now… the writing in the crevice only shows that he waited a long time inside, closed his eyes and hummed a song… with the next monster's increased speed, his trial and error time might be very, very short.
‘Wait! Suddenly, Li Cheng颐’s heart trembled. ‘That song… This is Xinshi City, so far away from the border, how could there be a Geliwusi nursery rhyme??’
‘The location of the Leizi earthquake, the location of the Geliwusi parking lot, is on the border between Geliwusi and Yi Country!’
‘How could it be such a coincidence??’
Li Cheng頤's mind instantly produced associations.
He quickly stood still and looked at Song Ran, who had taken a few steps forward.
"Brother Song, has the information shown where Dongdi·Jiaji’er is from?"
"He's from Yi Country? A minority, what's wrong?" Song Ran said strangely.
"Just now that song… that nursery rhyme, the name is Buruu… wait a minute." Li Cheng颐 quickly entered Buruu and searched for it in Geliwusi language.
Soon, a line of information that shocked him appeared on the mobile phone.
"This is!?!"

New Century Building.
Xindela gently extinguished the cigarette butt in the ashtray and looked at the gray trench coat man who had just entered the door.
"This symbol, please help me check it." He handed over a photo in his hand.
In the photo, the mysterious symbol that Li Cheng颐 had previously taken in Geliwusi was clearly printed.
"No problem. I can ignore others, but I still have to give Xindela face." The gray trench coat man smiled. His entire face was covered under the hood of the trench coat, and only a section of his pale and delicate chin could be seen.
"There are actually complete modified humans appearing here. It seems that the management committee is a bit lax." Xindela sighed.
"This side is different from Bai Xing. Modified humans are not the mainstream. Feiyi is. You haven't been here for long and haven't adapted yet." The gray trench coat man smiled, "You'll get used to it slowly in the future."
"Well, then I'll trouble you. If the cycle city networks were connected, it wouldn't be so troublesome." Xindela said.
"How can there be autonomy if they are connected?" The gray trench coat man shook his head slightly. "Okay, I'm going back. The mysterious modified human will naturally be dealt with by the committee."
"Well, are you still in Andu recently?"
"No, I've transferred to Chaoyu now. Andu is too rigid and lifeless, and business is not good." The gray trench coat man turned and left the office, waving to him.
"I'll treat you when you come to Chaoyu."
"Okay."
Watching his friend enter the elevator and leave.
Xindela took out the cigarette case from the drawer again, took out a cigarette, and was about to put it in his mouth.
But he glanced at the ashtray on the table, which already had five cigarette butts in it.
His hand paused, he put the cigarette back into the cigarette case and sighed softly.
Didi di…
Suddenly, a rapid phone call interrupted his thoughts.
He picked up his mobile phone, glanced at it, and quickly answered.
"How is it? Is there a result?"
"Boss." The voice on the other end of the phone was Li Cheng頤's. "Please help me check if Jiaji'er's parents were originally Geliwusi people?"
Xindela frowned and quickly contacted the company's AI in Bai Xing through a dedicated line.
In just over ten seconds, the information came back.
"You're right, Jiaji'er's family originally smuggled over from Geliwusi illegally. Later, they received a residence permit through the resettlement policy and became residents of Yi Country." Xindela quickly replied.
"That's right! It all matches." Li Cheng頤 said excitedly, "We found some clues here in the mental hospital. Some patients here like to sing a nursery rhyme that I asked about. It was Jiaji'er's initial unconscious humming."
"Nursery rhyme?"
"Yes." Li Cheng頤 quickly said, "I checked it. The nursery rhyme is called Kind Buruu! And the pronunciation of Buruu, in Geliwusi language, means…"
"Big-Faced Monster!"
