After Zhu Bo finished apologizing, he lowered his head as if he were an ostrich.
Since starting school at City No. 1 Middle School, this was the first time Zhu Bo had ever been so embarrassed. After this, no one would probably respect him anymore.
However, even if everyone looked down on him, Zhu Bo still had to apologize because his father was glaring at him fiercely.
“Du Fei, this young student has truly wronged you. This is all my fault for not raising my son properly. From now on, I will discipline him strictly. I hope you can be magnanimous.”
Zhu Fulai's tone was as polite as it could possibly be.
However, as he spoke, he secretly glanced at Gong Chengbin beside him.
Ultimately, the reason Zhu Fulai was so subservient was all because of Gong Chengbin, the second young master of Wanhe Group.
With just a single word from the other party, he could be packing his bags.
Therefore, no matter what Gong Chengbin asked him to do, Zhu Fulai would do it without hesitation.
“Alright, you two, father and son, can get lost! But remember, if I ever hear about your son bullying my brother’s sister again, hehe.”
Gong Chengbin made the decision for Du Fei and Du Yunyun, as he could tell neither of them intended to pursue the matter further.
However, to sound a warning for Zhu Fulai and his son, Gong Chengbin specifically added the latter half of his sentence.
Zhu Fulai plastered on a smile. “We wouldn't dare, wouldn't dare. Second Young Master, please rest assured, we will never dare to do so again.”
With that, the father and son sheepishly got into their car, a stark contrast to their previous arrogance.
“Brother, let's go home.”
Du Yunyun had initially just wanted her brother to pick her up in his car, using it as an opportunity to let her classmates know that she wasn't a country bumpkin or a penniless nobody.
But she never expected it to stir up such a commotion, making her the center of attention among the students.
Being stared at by so many eyes now, Du Yunyun felt a little shy.
“Okay, let’s go home.”
Du Fei nodded, then nudged Gong Chengbin with his chin, indicating that they should leave first.
The two got into the car and soon arrived downstairs of Du Fei’s home.
“Thank you for what happened today.”
After parking the car, Du Fei brought Du Yunyun to Gong Chengbin.
Gong Chengbin said, “Du Fei, I consider you my brother. Do we need to say such things? Besides, I also treat Yunyun as my sister. If someone bullies my sister, isn't that like slapping me in the face?”
“Thank you, Brother Ah Bin.”
Du Yunyun, without waiting for Du Fei to speak, said sweetly.
Gong Chengbin chuckled upon hearing this. “Oh, this ‘Brother Ah Bin’ you called me makes my heart melt. Yunyun, if you need anything in the future, just tell your brother. Except for the stars in the sky, which I can't pluck down, I won't even bat an eye for anything else.”
Although Gong Chengbin’s words were a bit exaggerated, Du Fei knew he was speaking from the heart, not just idly making promises like some people.
“Brother Ah Bin, your sports car is so cool! Is it very, very expensive?”
After the recent incident, Du Yunyun now knew that the Mercedes Du Fei was driving was borrowed from Gong Chengbin.
However, compared to Gong Chengbin’s ridiculously shaped, streamlined Ferrari sports car, the Mercedes seemed much inferior.
“This car is indeed quite cool. It accelerates from zero to a hundred kilometers in just over three seconds. Yunyun, do you want to sit in it? I’ll take you for a spin.”
Gong Chengbin, in front of the young girl, carefully avoided mentioning money.
Du Yunyun was eager to try, but Du Fei shot Gong Chengbin a glare, then said, “Yunyun, we need to go home for dinner. Otherwise, Mom will worry if we’re late.”
“Alright, then perhaps another time.”
Du Yunyun reluctantly nodded in disappointment.
Du Fei had intended to invite Gong Chengbin upstairs for dinner, but Gong Chengbin said he had another engagement that evening, which had been arranged long ago and he couldn't possibly miss.
Du Fei handed the key to the Maybach Mercedes to Gong Chengbin. The latter waved it away, saying Du Fei should keep using it and return it to him another day when he had time.
Since Gong Chengbin said so, and Du Fei did need a car for the next few days, as taking taxis back and forth would be inconvenient, he didn't stand on ceremony with Gong Chengbin.
After bidding farewell, Du Fei and Du Yunyun headed home.
As they neared their doorstep, Du Yunyun stopped.
“Brother, can you not tell Mom about today’s events?”
Du Yunyun hadn't expected that simply asking Du Fei to pick her up once would cause such a big stir.
She knew her mother’s traditional nature and didn't want her to know about this.
Du Fei gently stroked her head. “Little sister, since you say so, it means you've grown up and are considering others’ feelings. Don't worry, I know what to do.”
Du Yunyun thanked her brother, and then they went upstairs.
“Mom, we’re back.”
Upon opening the door, Du Yunyun didn't see her mother and raised her voice to call out.
“Oh, Mom is still cooking the last dish. You and your brother go wash your hands, and we can eat right away.”
Wu Chunmei’s voice came from the kitchen.
Du Fei and Du Yunyun went to wash their hands together.
Not long after they finished washing, Wu Chunmei came out of the kitchen carrying a plate.
“Mom bought a large, fresh yellow croaker at the market today. Taste it and see if Mom’s cooking skills have declined.”
Wu Chunmei wore a beaming smile, causing Du Fei and Du Yunyun to look at her a few extra times.
She glanced at her son and daughter, then touched her face. “What’s wrong? Why are you both looking at me like that? Did I get something on my face?”
“Mom, why do I feel like you’re particularly happy today?”
“Exactly, exactly! Mom has been a bit down the past few days, but today she’s smiling so happily.”
Du Fei and Du Yunyun said in succession.
Seeing them staring intently at her, Wu Chunmei sighed helplessly. “It seems like if I don't explain today, you won't let it go, will you? Actually, what happened was…”
Then, Wu Chunmei told them that when she went to the market to buy groceries today, she met a fellow villager who was selling fish at a nearby market.
Because the accent sounded somewhat familiar, Wu Chunmei casually asked the person, and it turned out they were indeed from her hometown.
Later, they chatted more and more congenially. If she hadn’t had to go home to cook for her son and daughter, she would have almost chatted until dark.
“So, this fish you’re eating now was a gift from Auntie Li. I insisted on paying, but she refused to accept it. However, I plan to give her some of the cornmeal we brought from home tomorrow.”
“By the way, Xiao Fei, I see that Auntie Li is a bit overwhelmed by herself. I plan to go over early to lend a hand. Can you make breakfast for your sister tomorrow morning?”
Wu Chunmei said, looking at Du Fei.
“No problem, Mom. Feel free to go.”
Du Fei nodded.
Du Fei had been thinking that with his sister going to school and him preparing to open a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, Wu Chunmei would be home alone. Unlike in Du Family Village where she could work in the fields, being idle at home all day would make her depressed.
Now that his mother had met a fellow villager who they got along very well with, Du Fei was naturally happy for her.
