Chapter 566: Ambitions Run High

Chapter 566: Chapter 566: Ambitions Run High

Harold Hawthorne walked in from outside the door, glancing mockingly and disdainfully at Ann Vaughn kneeling on the ground, then said to Laura Quinn, "No rush, this woman still has some use."

"Okay." Laura Quinn pretended to style her hair near her ear, while pulling Kenny back from beyond the railing, but never let go of the hand gripping his neck.

Kenny’s already pale face grew worse, his unconscious little brows furrowing in discomfort.

Seeing Laura Quinn cooperate, Harold Hawthorne directly threw the documents and pen in front of Ann Vaughn, his tone threatening, "If you don’t want this brat to die in front of you, just sign these papers."

Ann Vaughn lowered her eyes to see the words "Property Transfer Consent Form" at the top of the document, her lips tightly pressed.

Their ambition was not small.

Apart from the shares of Hawthorne Group and the property Cyrus Hawthorne transferred to her name, not even her clinic and the Imperial Glory Branch were spared—

"Are you deaf? I’m telling you to sign!" As she stayed unmoving, Harold Hawthorne cursed angrily and kicked her slender back!

Since Ann Vaughn’s figure was already thin, his kick made her complexion pale, and she fainted on the ground!

Seeing the duck that had almost been in hand suddenly faint, Laura Quinn frowned and loosened her grip a bit on Kenny.

"Are you crazy? Can’t kill or cut until she signs?!"

Harold Hawthorne hadn’t expected Ann Vaughn to be so fragile, not realizing he hadn’t even used much force!

"That bitch must be pretending!" After saying so, Harold Hawthorne heavily kicked Ann’s shoulder, expecting to expose her fake fainting.

But Ann Vaughn didn’t react at all!

Damn, she’s really out!?

Laura Quinn’s expression grew increasingly ugly, just about to say something when a sudden, intense pain came from her hand, soon causing her entire arm to go numb!

"Ah—"

The piercing scream exploded.

In pain, Laura Quinn’s fingers lost their grip strength, and Kenny, whom she’d been choking, somehow had awoken, stood steadily on the ground, and sprinted away on his short legs.

"Catch—Quickly catch that little bastard!" Laura Quinn’s arm hurt so much it was nearly paralyzed, her face contorted, filled with hatred for Kenny.

Harold Hawthorne knew without being told that Kenny should be caught; otherwise, their bargaining chip to force Ann Vaughn to sign the agreement would greatly diminish.

But before Harold could chase Kenny, a ball shot out from somewhere hit his chest precisely.

On reflex, Harold caught the ball, looking down at the small, dark object.

Just as he was about to throw it away, the black ball exploded with a boom in Harold’s hand!

"Ah!!"

Thick poisonous gas rapidly spread from the black ball, and mistaking it for a bomb, Harold screamed in panic, inhaling a few gulps of the toxic gas!

One step, two steps, three steps...

With a "thud", Harold fell.

The "unconscious" Ann Vaughn heard the sound, promptly got up from the floor without glancing at the immobilized Laura and Harold, moving through the dense toxic fog to find Kenny.

Fortunately, she had an antidote before coming, just in case, so the poison fog didn’t take her down during the explosion.

But if Kenny hadn’t woken up in time, even with their perfect cooperation, success would have been impossible.

Once the poison fog gradually dissipated, Ann Vaughn finally regained a clear view of the scene.

"Kenny..." The last word couldn’t escape her throat.

Her eyes constantly shrank, the terror surging from within almost devouring her heart.

"You dare harm me, little bastard!" Laura Quinn viciously grabbed Kenny’s neck with her available hand, dragging him to the platform at the far edge of the railing!

The platform and the railing were level, so standing there unsteadily would mean directly falling off the rooftop!

"Mom..." Kenny wanted to speak, but the arm around his neck felt like a rope, choking him and turning his face red.

The strength in his body dwindled, his eyelids barely staying open...

"No!" Ann Vaughn’s face turned pale at Laura’s insane actions, stepping forward, feigning calmness to negotiate terms with her, "I’ll agree to whatever you want as long as you let Kenny go!"

"Alright, then you’re going to hell!" Laura’s wild hair scattered, a maniacal grin on her face sent chills down one’s spine in the night.

The next second, she released her arm, violently pushing Kenny out—

Everything transformed into slow-motion imagery.

Kenny’s small body fell from the platform, suspended mid-air, an image like a bloodied blade stabbing through Ann Vaughn!

"No—" Ann Vaughn lunged forward, trying to catch Kenny, but she was too far away, could only watch him falling!

"Don’t!!"

Her elbows scraped against the platform’s rough surface, leaving a shocking trail of blood.

Tearing pain erupted from deep within her head, rendering her vision black, and her body trembled, unable to suppress the spreading chill and panic.

Had she committed such sins?

Does heaven want to take everyone she holds dear, one by one?

Whether Cyrus Hawthorne, Kenny, or the unborn child—

Is heaven truly fair!?

Ann Vaughn shut her eyes tightly, her heart sinking into a dark swamp, swallowed by the last glimmer.

"Feeling the pain?" Laura Quinn approached Ann Vaughn from behind, unknowingly, pressing her head against the railing, her face crazed as she pushed her out: "I’m taking you to reunite with that little bastard!"

Ann Vaughn did not resist.

Her mind harbored no intent to resist.

For her, death was a form of forgiveness to someone who had lost the will to survive.

There’s no greater despair than a dead heart.

At that moment, Ann Vaughn exemplified that perfectly.

Ann Vaughn closed her eyes, unafraid and unperturbed by what Laura Quinn planned next, her lips barely curving into a scarce smile.

Soon she’ll be there.

You better wait for me along the way.

"Bang!"

"Bang! Bang!"

The gunshots tore through the sky along with the sound of a helicopter rotor spinning violently, shattering the rooftop’s silence!

"Ah—" A scream abruptly sounded in Ann Vaughn’s ear!

The grip meant to push her off the rooftop suddenly retreated several steps, Laura Quinn collapsed in a heap, blood flowing from her mouth.

"How... how... is this possible..."

"Impossible... Impossible..."

Laura’s mouth moved, eyes filled with terror as she looked ahead, wanting to move but paralyzed by the piercing pain from her bones.
