The Chosen One

"The program will be recorded live, and I mean globally live, starting tomorrow morning at eight. For the next three months, everything except for private evening moments will be broadcast in front of a global audience," Jon explained.

"The duration is longer than most shows, so our primary pursuit is authenticity. It's incredibly difficult for any guest to maintain a persona during three months of live broadcasting. Therefore, we don't need personas; we want the most genuine situations," Mike added.

Su Yang hadn't anticipated this. Before coming, he had assumed the show was simply a dating program. He was somewhat surprised to discover it had deeper substance.

Looking at the two men before him, Su Yang nodded. "I understand your intentions. You have some interesting ideas. In this industry, personas are commonplace. However, you don't really know me. I'm not entirely part of this circle, perhaps only half. So, I don't have a persona; I am as you see me now. Perhaps later I'll exhibit some peculiarities, but that would be due to my own eccentricities."

Hearing Su Yang's candid response, Mike and Jon nodded in unison. "Excellent. We didn't expect you to be the guest who answered the questions best," Mike said with a smile, looking at Hans. "Hans mentioned you were a bit peculiar, and we were worried there might be some awkwardness."

"Oh?" Su Yang responded with a soft "Oh" and turned to Hans, asking, "How am I peculiar?"

Hans gave an awkward laugh. "Aren't all Longguo people like this? Emotionally unstable."

Su Yang was speechless. If he were emotionally unstable, he would have dealt with Hans long ago. He knew Hans wouldn't be so accommodating. Looking at Hans, Su Yang didn't want to say anything more. However, remaining silent would confirm Hans's assertion about Longguo people's emotional instability and their passive response to slander.

Su Yang pursed his lips and looked at Hans. "We Longguo people are not emotionally unstable. Everyone in the world, with very few exceptions, experiences emotional instability; it's not exclusive to us Longguo people. Furthermore, I'm peculiar because you've been constantly mocking our country. If someone were to constantly mock your country, would you still speak to them so calmly?" Su Yang spoke with a clear mind and logical reasoning.

Hans looked at Su Yang, his face flushing. He wanted to argue back, but ultimately, no words came out. "We Longguo people are taught excellent traditional values from childhood. Our character is impeccable. We don't offend others casually, but if someone persistently provokes us, we will not let them off the hook," Su Yang stated solemnly to Hans.

Mike and Jon, seeing Su Yang's serious demeanor, understood what had happened. They likely gathered that some conflict had occurred when Hans picked Su Yang up. "Su Yang, Hans grew up in Meiguo and hasn't been outside Meiguo much. He doesn't know much about Longguo. Perhaps there was some misunderstanding; please don't take it to heart," Mike attempted to defend Hans.

Su Yang didn't offer a conciliatory smile. He pursed his lips, still looking at Mike with seriousness. "Director, we have our own perspectives on matters, and we don't change them easily. If Mr. Hans doesn't change his attitude later, I'll say it again: we Longguo people do not fawn over those who are unfriendly to us. Longguo people, men and women alike, stand tall and possess their own dignity."

A silence of about ten seconds fell over the conference room after Su Yang finished speaking. Mike, Jon, and even Liangli stared at Su Yang, stunned. Liangli knew Su Yang was capable, but she hadn't expected him to remain so composed in such a relatively high-stakes situation. This genuinely surprised her.

Liangli wore a small camera on her chest, and her assistant had one too. Su Yang's every word and action was being recorded. These recorded clips would be compiled into videos and shown on Longguo websites. Liangli could already imagine the reaction in Longguo once the video aired. Su Yang was truly a chosen one, born for this program. He had courage, substance, was handsome, and wealthy. It seemed all the positive traits were concentrated in Su Yang alone. Liangli couldn't think of any flaws he possessed. Perhaps there was one.

Liangli thought to herself. Su Yang didn't like Liangli; that was Su Yang's flaw. Apart from that, Liangli couldn't think of any other shortcomings. Seeing Su Yang's calm and collected demeanor in the face of Mike and Jon, Liangli's affection for him grew even stronger.

"Detected: Liangli's satisfaction with the host has reached one hundred percent. Reward host ten billion yuan." The system's voice suddenly appeared in Su Yang's mind. Su Yang was taken aback. Satisfaction only reached one hundred percent now? Su Yang mentally asked the system, "Didn't she reach one hundred percent satisfaction during those two hours on the boat?"

The system replied cheekily, "Everyone's standards are different. Some are based on 'that kind of thing,' while others are based on different matters. Therefore, Liangli's satisfaction level with you has only now reached one hundred percent."

Hearing the system, Su Yang was truly exasperated. Previously, with Liu Shishi and the other two, Su Yang had assumed that only 'that' could lead to a target's satisfaction reaching one hundred percent. Su Yang had thought, "How could someone who slept with me not be one hundred percent satisfied? After all, my conditions are so outstanding. There's no one else in the world as outstanding as me." However, he never expected Liangli to reach one hundred percent satisfaction only now. This showed Su Yang that Liangli was somewhat different from those others.

Ten billion yuan... it wasn't a huge amount compared to what Su Yang had received before. However, when he had successfully courted Liangli, he had already obtained an encyclopedia. Whatever Su Yang wanted to know, he could find it in the encyclopedia. That item was incredibly valuable, far more precious than ten billion yuan.

Meanwhile, Hans, upon hearing Su Yang's words, showed no remorse. Instead, his expression became somewhat strained and annoyed as he looked at Su Yang. It was likely that Su Yang had made Hans lose face in front of the two directors. Su Yang could understand Hans's feelings perfectly well. However, Su Yang felt no pity for Hans. After all, these were the consequences Hans had brought upon himself. And there wasn't much to bear, other than Su Yang revealing Hans's unfriendly behavior from the previous day to his superiors.

However, Su Yang felt that Mike and Jon didn't seem to care too much about it. After all, when Su Yang brought it up, they didn't scold Hans; they defended him. This made Su Yang feel somewhat exasperated. But he also understood Mike and Jon to some extent. From their perspective, Su Yang was a foreigner, while Hans was their compatriot. Su Yang understood Mike and Jon's position. Therefore, Su Yang also disliked Mike and Jon. His previous good feelings towards them had completely vanished. Su Yang looked at the two men before him, feeling immense disdain. On the surface, this program had high integrity, but in reality, the directors and producers still held biases against Longguo and protected their own countrymen. Su Yang understood, but he did not agree.
