Chapter 200: 200 The Temper is Not Small_1
"It would indeed be a cause for celebration if Black Tortoise could really be repaired."
With Black Tortoise in the hands of the Mountain Ghost Association, the Empire wouldn’t be jealous. Being able to use it in competitions would certainly bring a tremendous boost to Yunxia’s momentum.
Li Huijun nodded and had someone pour a cup of tea for Yan Moling. "What brings you to me today?" she asked. "You’ve been busy lately, and you wouldn’t visit without good reason."
She gestured for Yan Moling to sit down and took a seat herself. First, she took a sip of water to moisten her throat; she had just spoken at length with Gong Shu and was thirsty. Without waiting for Yan Moling to speak, she continued, "Is it about Wen Jiang?"
Wen Jiang was just an A-Level Spirit Card Master, not typically significant enough to merit their UR Rank attention. However, considering the information she had recently submitted, coupled with her status as the heir to the Jimo Family, no one would underestimate her.
Yan Moling was surprised. "How did you know?"
"I’ve received a message," said Li Huijun. "This matter is indeed a major issue. If not handled well, some might harbor ill intentions."
Li Huijun was affiliated with the state and was quickly informed of any developments. Thus, she knew the purpose of Yan Moling’s visit as soon as she arrived.
She did not expect that Yan Moling would be willing to come to her concerning Wen Jiang.
It was one thing to receive orders from superiors and quite another for Yan Moling to approach Li Huijun on her own initiative.
After taking a sip of water, Yan Moling probed, "What do you think of Wen Jiang, Teacher?"
What do I think? She was being asked about Wen Jiang, about what kind of person Wen Jiang truly was.
What purpose did she have in doing these things?
To discuss these matters in front of Wen Jiang would be offensive, yet these were also the concerns of those above.
"Having aspirations is a good thing; whether they’re good or bad, we can always devise a strategy accordingly," Li Huijun said with a smile. "Those are worries for others to bear; we needn’t say more on the subject."
Yan Moling thought about it and realized it made sense. If the sky were to fall, there would be higher-ups to take responsibility.
With this in mind, she said, "Should I warn her? The cards she makes are extraordinary and can enhance spiritual power. Others don’t have this ability, and I’m afraid if foreign countries find out."
If the Sanctuary and Frost Moon learned of this, harboring ill intentions was inevitable.
Li Huijun could only sigh. "Aside from offering protection, there’s really no other solution. If she’s willing, you could actually commission her to make cards."
This would be beneficial to the A-Level members of the military.
"I understand," Yan Moling nodded. "I’ve already approached her about making a card deal, and she agreed. But since she’s competing, I haven’t bothered her."
Pressing her tongue against her cheek, she mused, "But I’m not sure what she thinks about this matter."
Wen Jiang must know that her own cards can enhance spiritual power; it was her secret.
Where did she really come from?
The list for the 30-to-15 advancement was released; it was a simple knockout tournament where the winner advanced.
Mount Flower was up against Posuo, the strongest Card Association member from Country Beiwu.
This was practically a fated clash of rivals!
Why say so? Because that famous S Rank from Country Beiwu, who had shown contempt for Wen Jiang, belonged to this association. He was also a well-known Card Maker and a figurehead for Posuo.
Previously, Wen Jiang had not paid him any attention. Although there was no enmity with the Card Association, the current match was inevitably laced with a sense of confrontation.
However, that was only relevant if the opponents were of equal strength. Ever since Mount Flower’s victory over Shaliye, the media had become more lenient in their coverage of Mount Flower.
If the second-strongest association of the Sanctuary got wiped out, it wouldn’t be polite to praise this association from Country Beiwu any longer.
Having swiftly defeated Shaliye, there was naturally no need to hold back against this association. As expected, they banned the Four Heavenly Kings and Su Daji, but the bad news was that the Moon Palace Card Set was now in play.
Wen Jiang once again, unsurprisingly, obtained Changer.
Getting her own card, her victory was practically a foregone conclusion—clean and decisive.
Mount Flower officially entered the top 15.
After winning the match, Wen Jiang sat in the hotel, receiving an unexpected message.
"Peng Fenglai wants to meet me?"
Yunxia’s UR-Level Spirit Card Master had come to the hotel. Although her identity was naturally a secret, she suddenly expressed a desire to meet Wen Jiang.
The person who came to speak to Tang Qian was Peng Fenglai’s assistant. The assistant, merely an A-Rank Spirit Card Master, spoke with considerable arrogance. Normally, a UR Rank wishing to meet an A-Rank Spirit Card Master was a trivial matter that should have been agreed to immediately. Unexpectedly, Tang Qian’s face showed difficulty. "Then I’ll have to ask."
The expression on Peng Fenglai’s assistant’s face soured immediately. She pursed her lips and said, "Miss Peng doesn’t have much time to stay in Card City."
The implication was that they should meet immediately.
Detecting this implication, Tang Qian maintained her composure as a coach and didn’t show her displeasure. She glanced at the assistant, rolling her eyes inwardly while keeping a forced smile, and said, "Whether Wen Jiang goes or not isn’t for me, as the coach, to decide. I’ll have to ask."
Then, ignoring the assistant’s reaction, she went straight to find Wen Jiang.
"She wants to meet me? Just because she wants to doesn’t mean I have to. I don’t even know her."
Wen Jiang spoke with a hint of a smile, yet her tone was slightly cold. "It’s quite presumptuous for someone I don’t know to expect me to come and meet them."
This kind of haughty, imperious attitude was something Wen Jiang hadn’t encountered in quite some time.
Tang Qian knew Wen Jiang’s temperament well, but since Peng Fenglai was a UR-Level Spirit Card Master, she carefully suggested, "Shall I tell them you’re fully focused on the competition and simply can’t spare the time?"
Anyone with clear sight could tell it was an excuse.
Wen Jiang nodded. "There’s no need to be overly courteous to someone who seeks trouble during my competition time."
Even Yan Moling knew the importance of her competition. Aside from sending the occasional message, phone calls were rare, let alone requests for a meeting, even though the competition actually required little preparation on her part.
Wen Jiang could afford to be temperamental, but Tang Qian couldn’t.
She smiled as she declined Peng Fenglai’s assistant, merely stating that Wen Jiang was currently occupied with analyzing post-match strategies and really couldn’t spare the time.
After all, it really isn’t wise to offend a UR-Rank Spirit Card Master.
The assistant probably didn’t expect Wen Jiang to refuse, and her disbelief was plainly etched on her face, even accompanied by a sort of incredulous smile. "You’re saying she doesn’t have time now?"
"Yes," Tang Qian affirmed, her smile measured but her tone direct. "It’s currently the competition period, and everyone really is pressed for time. Please ask Miss Peng for her understanding."
The subtext was clear: it was a critical time, and without an urgent reason, why would Peng Fenglai ask to meet?
The assistant’s disbelief turned into a scoffing laugh after a moment. She gave Tang Qian a sarcastic glance and walked away.
Tang Qian clicked her tongue.
Even an A-Rank assistant carried such an air of arrogance around a UR-Rank Spirit Card Master.
The assistant returned to Peng Fenglai’s side and succinctly translated Tang Qian’s words into a simple sentence: "She says she’s too busy with the competition to come."
It was clear to anyone with eyes that Wen Jiang was under no pressure from the competition. Claiming to be busy was purely an excuse.
In the assistant’s view, this was quite outrageous. Since becoming a UR-Level Spirit Card Master, who hadn’t shown Peng Fenglai some respect?
Surprisingly, Peng Fenglai just huffed a laugh, not showing any sign of anger, and simply remarked, "She really does have quite the temper. No wonder I was sent to be the vanguard."
