Chapter 55: 055 saved one person_1
Wen Jiang carried the woman back to her temporary residence.
The surveillance cameras on the road could be hacked, but there was nothing she could do if someone actually saw her.
Of course, Wen Jiang had also checked online but couldn’t find the girl’s identity. Since the girl was related to a Heaven’s Mandate System host, she was likely not an entirely reputable character.
Wen Jiang continued to carry the girl. Although people on the road found it somewhat odd, they didn’t suspect Wen Jiang of kidnapping, nor could they see the girl’s face clearly.
It was only when she returned to the hotel that an attendant greeted her warmly, "Miss Wen, do you need any help?"
After all, many Spirit Card Masters were staying there, so the service was naturally attentive.
Wen Jiang, without blushing or her heart skipping a beat, replied, "It’s nothing. My friend is drunk. I’m just carrying her back. Could you prepare a bowl of sobering soup for me?"
"Of course. Please wait a moment, and we’ll bring it up to you."
Seeing that the attendant wasn’t suspicious at all, Zero Egg exclaimed, "Host, your acting skills are truly impressive! When you were lying just now, all your physiological indicators, including hormone levels, were normal. A lie detector probably wouldn’t even work on you."
Wen Jiang replied, "What can I say? I’m just naturally gifted."
Zero Egg: "?" Do you think I’m actually praising you?
After carrying the girl back to the room, Wen Jiang placed her on the bed. The System had checked her earlier; there was nothing seriously wrong, just some decreased physiological indicators and nutritional deficiencies.
To put it plainly, she had probably been tied up for some time and was starving.
But right now, she was unconscious and couldn’t feel it.
The attendant quickly brought up the sobering soup, and Wen Jiang also asked her to prepare some food.
Wen Jiang didn’t know when the girl would wake up, and her own competition was starting soon. After some thought, she locked the door from the inside to prevent the girl from escaping and causing trouble when she awoke.
That evening’s match was against an unknown Spirit Card Master, so Wen Jiang felt no pressure at all. However, when she arrived at the arena and saw An Fuxue, An Fuxue seemed somewhat surprised. "Where were you all afternoon?"
Wen Jiang casually replied, "Just wandering around."
"It seems you really are..." An Fuxue hesitated, unsure how to describe Wen Jiang’s level of confidence.
After all, many Spirit Card Masters spent all their time at the arena observing the strengths of others. Even several Spirit Card Masters from a large association like Broken Heart were present, which made Wen Jiang’s absence all the more conspicuous.
But An Fuxue didn’t dwell on it. "Still, we Spirit Card Masters probably shouldn’t wander around too much. We just received a notice from the Border City Guard Squad. They said many illegal Spirit Card Masters have come to Border City. The internationally infamous Fiend A Squad ran into trouble not far from here."
Wen Jiang blinked, feigning curiosity. "Illegal Spirit Card Masters?"
An Fuxue nodded. "Yes. Five A-Level Spirit Card Masters, all dead. A battle of that magnitude should have lasted a long time and left many traces. But when the Guard Squad arrived at the scene, they only found dust where the corpses had been. They said it looked like the work of a very powerful B-Level Spirit Card Master legion."
Wen Jiang remained silent. It seems their imagination isn’t bold enough.
Typically, battles between A-Level Spirit Card Masters cause tremendous disturbances and aren’t concluded so easily. Wen Jiang had finished so quickly because she’d launched hundreds of cards in a surprise attack, catching them completely unprepared. They had never encountered such tactics before. Coupled with the group assault, they naturally died swiftly.
By the time the Guard Squad noticed the commotion and rushed over, Wen Jiang had had enough time to escape.
For now, they didn’t suspect the Spirit Card Masters who had come to Border City for the competition. For one thing, these Spirit Card Masters were all from major Card Associations. An operation involving so many of them would surely have caused a significant disturbance, yet the Guard Squad had found no such additional traces.
Fearing that the perpetrators’ intentions were not simple, the Guard Squad had naturally warned the competing Spirit Card Masters as well.
"Oh?" Wen Jiang feigned ignorance. "What’s the Fiend A Squad?"
"They’re a notorious legion of Spirit Card Master mercenaries specializing in international illegal activities. They all belong to an organization called Fiend, which has various squads. This was just one of them."
An Fuxue pursed her lips. "I don’t know where this B-Level team that wiped them out came from. They did a good deed, but they’ve definitely offended Fiend now."
Zero Egg suddenly interjected, "Isn’t that bad then? Wu Fanjia hired them. If this Fiend Squad has any records, wouldn’t they easily deduce it was you?"
"If you hadn’t seen me use hundreds of cards with your own eyes, would you believe a B-Level Spirit Card Master could kill five A-Level Spirit Card Masters?" Wen Jiang clicked her tongue lightly. "They won’t suspect me. They’ll only suspect that Fiend provoked someone they shouldn’t have. As for Wu Fanjia, with a failed mission and no idea why, she’ll definitely be terrified and anxious. If word gets out that she hired assassins to kill a Spirit Card Master, the Wu Family will have to pay a hefty price, even if they manage to protect her."
She sighed. "It’s a pity that woman doesn’t leave Imperial City. Right now, it’s impossible for me to storm the Wu Family residence and kill her."
Oh, that makes sense, Zero Egg thought. News of a B-Level Spirit Card Master killing five A-Level ones would be unbelievable to anyone. Now, it all depends on who this girl Wen Jiang saved actually is and where she came from.
After chatting with An Fuxue for a few more moments, Wen Jiang’s match was about to begin.
The first two days of the competition featured random pairings. As long as no one faced an unexpectedly strong opponent, there were basically no surprises. All the Spirit Card Masters from Yunxia Imperial City won their matches.
This time, Wen Jiang’s Child Demon card was banned. As everyone anticipated, she took out her Rabbit Demon Card and ended the fight swiftly and decisively. The Spirit Card Masters watching from below the stage couldn’t discern much difference between this performance and when she used the Child Demon, and their expressions grew quite serious.
If her Rabbit Demon was banned, she used Child Demon; if Child Demon was banned, she used Rabbit Demon. Both were incredibly difficult to deal with.
It seemed that this year, Wen Jiang from Mount Flower was a competitor to be wary of.
In previous years, the major Card Associations hadn’t paid much extra attention to Mount Flower.
After finishing her match, Wen Jiang declined An Fuxue’s invitation for dinner that evening and returned to the hotel.
The instant she opened her hotel room door, her extremely keen hearing caught a very faint CLICK.
The girl had woken up. Realizing she couldn’t open the door, which was locked from the outside, she apparently hadn’t tried to escape.
Wen Jiang lowered her gaze, walked into the living area, and saw that most of the food she had ordered earlier was gone. It seemed the girl had been truly famished.
Surveying the room, Wen Jiang instantly knew where the girl was hiding.
Inside the cabinet.
She could clearly hear the girl’s rapid, tense breathing.
Wen Jiang called for more food from room service. After hanging up, she said directly, "You can stop hiding. I’m the one who saved you and brought you here. If I meant you any harm, would you have been able to stay here so peacefully?"
After she spoke, the sound of breathing paused.
About two minutes later, the cabinet door creaked open a little. A pair of beautiful blue eyes peeked out, hesitantly and cautiously sizing up Wen Jiang.
