Chapter 109: Test from Hua Zhuo_1
Wen Jiang took out her cellphone to look at a few of the Guiqing Association’s S Rank representative cards.
Based on the match conditions, these cards were fairly ordinary and not considered very powerful. Their abilities were somewhat niche, as if requiring synergy with a specific card set to be effective, yet the Guiqing Association lacked such a synergistic set.
Since the Heaven’s Mandate System belonged to the highest tier of systems, the cards it offered must naturally be of exceptional quality.
And there didn’t seem to be any shockingly impressive Spirit Card Master on the market.
Unless... they didn’t have enough points for card draws, Wen Jiang mused.
Wen Jiang roughly checked the points needed for an A-Rank Card Set. The cards she made had to be ludicrously strong and visually stunning to get the public excited. So far, she had won the B-Level competition. The emotional points converted and fed back to Zero Egg from this had only amounted to four or five thousand points, enough for just four or five ten-card draws.
According to Zero Egg, there was also a high chance of pulling many useless cards, like those that alter the human body, in a ten-card draw.
A hint of interest flickered across Wen Jiang’s face as she considered: What if the Guiqing Association’s Card Maker is Nian Jian’s mother, and she started from R Rank?
I don’t believe this woman could surpass me at the outset. She must have spent a long time earning enough points to upgrade her card set. All this back-and-forth could easily have dragged on until now, possibly preventing her from even unlocking an S Rank Card Set.
And if she were even slightly unlucky, she very likely would have drawn many useless cards.
The biggest feature of an A-Rank Card Set is the chance of pulling an SSR Rank card.
This seemed to provide a reasonable explanation for why the Guiqing Association’s few SSR cards were niche and underperforming. Unless she had coincidentally pulled these cards during a ten-card draw. But if they had SSR Rank cards, how could they have no reputation at all? If even SSR Cards can be good or bad, then it seems this ’lucky individual’ bound by the Heaven’s Mandate System wasn’t so fortunate after all.
Of course, all of this was based on the premise that the other party indeed had been with the Guiqing Association.
Wen Jiang was still skeptical of coincidences, but since Zero Egg brought it up, the likelihood of this matter was pretty high.
Since that day she had stumbled upon that woman, Wen Jiang had never seen her again.
Today, they had won the training match against Chen Runyu’s older cousin. Chen Runyu and the others were visibly elated, even suggesting they go out for a nice meal when the afternoon activities ended.
Tang Qian didn’t object. Seeing that Wen Jiang hadn’t participated in many group activities for quite some time, she suggested treating everyone to dinner and asked if Wen Jiang wanted to go.
Wen Jiang did not refuse.
Having been here for so long, she hadn’t really made any friends, only occasionally chatting with An Fuxue from the Tarot Association.
An Fuxue had wanted to invite her out for meals, but Wen Jiang had been busy making cards recently and hadn’t agreed.
Seeing Wen Jiang had also agreed, Tang Qian led Chen Runyu and others to review today’s match. Wen Jiang was about to join them but was interrupted by a sudden message.
The association leader called Tang Qian, saying that Director Hua wanted to meet with Wen Jiang.
This Director Hua was naturally Hua Zhuo, who had taken over the Jimo Family and was one of the board members at the Mount Flower Association.
Aside from coming by a few times before, Hua Zhuo had not been around much while Wen Jiang was making cards. Today, suddenly arriving at the company, she said she wanted to find Wen Jiang. She knew they were having a training match and had waited until she learned they had returned before coming to find Wen Jiang.
Wen Jiang was somewhat surprised but not overly shocked. Tang Qian, however, became concerned.
Since the other party was from the Nobility, she cautiously reminded Wen Jiang, "No matter what Director Hua says, just listen—she is from the Jimo Family."
Wen Jiang nodded in understanding and then set out for Hua Zhuo’s office.
Hua Zhuo’s office was on the top floor. When Wen Jiang arrived, the door was open, allowing her to see Hua Zhuo sitting in a wheelchair. She faced the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the scenery outside, seemingly lost in thought.
Hearing the noise, Hua Zhuo turned around and saw Wen Jiang standing at the door.
The girl’s temperament made Hua Zhuo pause.
She extended a hand and gestured, "Sit."
Wen Jiang’s gaze swept over her leg for just a fraction of a second before shifting away. Spirit Card Masters could suffer from various ailments, but lifelong disabilities were rare, mainly due to advanced modern medicine. Perhaps her leg wasn’t injured by something ordinary.
As Wen Jiang walked into the office and sat down on the sofa, Hua Zhuo came over in her wheelchair. Her clear eyes watched Wen Jiang, as if sizing up something beyond her appearance. In my mind, the Cang Xing Die remained relatively calm, Wen Jiang noted.
Seeing the girl staring at her calmly, Hua Zhuo revealed a smile that was as gentle as possible. "I heard you used to study at the Imperial City Yun Mansion Noble University. Why did you withdraw?"
Since she had been summoned, they must have thoroughly investigated my background, Wen Jiang thought.
Wen Jiang’s withdrawal had been a unilateral action by the Noble University. Technically, Wen Jiang could have reported it, but Hua Zhuo knew some matters couldn’t be approached so naively.
She just wanted to hear Wen Jiang’s answer.
Wen Jiang raised an eyebrow. "Because I was bullied. The school felt that I tarnished its reputation and asked me to withdraw. So, I did."
Just as well, I hadn’t wanted to continue studying anyway, she thought. After all, having cultivated for thousands of years, I lacked the patience to pore over textbooks.
Her response was so crisp and straightforward that it surprised Hua Zhuo a bit. On the surface, that indeed seemed to be the reason, she mused.
Hua Zhuo, however, was aware of deeper reasons.
Wen Jiang used to be Song Yingchen’s girlfriend.
She entered the university through the connections of the Song Family, which was not widely known. The university wouldn’t have asked Wen Jiang to withdraw so easily; it was likely more of a scare tactic. In reality, Wen Jiang herself had chosen to agree to the withdrawal, not because she was threatened by her homeroom teacher, Hua Zhuo reasoned.
Not long after Wen Jiang left, her homeroom teacher was also fired. However, Wen Jiang wouldn’t pay much attention to people who were unimportant to her and never bothered to inquire about the school’s situation.
She didn’t even care about that manipulative Guan Xixi.
Considering the reaction from that person in the Song Family, it didn’t seem like they disregarded Wen Jiang. And she had been bullied, Hua Zhuo thought.
Thinking of this, Hua Zhuo’s gaze gradually darkened. Frankly, given Wen Jiang’s current demeanor, it was difficult to believe she had been bullied before. However, the facts were clear; the hospital records didn’t lie. But now, she had suddenly become a Spirit Card Master, and one with such formidable combat ability.
Hua Zhuo lifted her head, and her gaze was no longer the previous warmth but carried a layer of hidden suspicion and coldness. It was as if I see the shadow of a terrifying woman in Wen Jiang, she thought. However—Wen Jiang and that woman seem slightly different.
Wen Jiang keenly sensed the change in Hua Zhuo’s eyes. What is she thinking? Before Wen Jiang could figure it out, she heard Hua Zhuo suddenly ask, "You didn’t awaken your spiritual power for nearly twenty years. Why did you suddenly become a Spirit Card Master after your time in the hospital?"
