Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Xu Yuelan?
The sky darkened. Luxurious cars pulled over at the Xu’s Residence.
It was the birthday of the Patriarch. The Xu family were an aristocratic family which had dealings in the political and business worlds.
They were one of the few families apart from the Huos and Lus which were deeply rooted in the city of Shanghai.
They were prestigious, and a lot of families were willing to suck up to them. This could be seen from the amount of cars which were at the entrance.
When the Lu’s family car pulled in, the reporters who were waiting to pick up the biggest news rushed to them.
Yue Ning looked at the reporters through the car’s window with a calm expression. Lu Ting who was seated beside her daughter was worried that Yue Ning wouldn’t be used to such a scene.
"Don’t worry, your brother and I are here," Lu Ting assured, patting the back of Yue Ning’s hand.
"Yes Sister. With me here, let’s see if they would try to hurt you," Lu Ran patted his chest confidently.
Yue Ning smiled softly. She felt at peace knowing she had a mom and brother who were ready to fight the world for them.
Lu Ran was the first to leave the car. The camera flashed once he stepped out. He was after all one of the most eligible bachelors in the city.
He fixed his tie before he opened the car door. The first one to step out was Lu Ting who had a graceful and elegant smile as she posed slightly for the camera.
The flashes increased seeing her. Lu Ting was a previous beauty queen in the entertainment industry, and though she had retired from the industry, her impact and popularity couldn’t be compared to the younger generation.
It was no wonder each photographer wanted to catch a glimpse of the number one beauty in the entertainment.
After Lu Ting stepped out, the next one to step out was Yue Ning. Compared to Lu Ting’s smile which was practiced and poised, Yue Ning’s was innate.
Her elegance came naturally. Perhaps, this was the perks of being Lu Ting’s daughter. She didn’t have to try, but she could make heads turn.
Seeing the two ladies of the Lus, the cameras flashed crazily. Contrary to what Lu Ran thought earlier, Yue Ning wasn’t the least scared of the camera.
’As expected of my sister,’ he thought to himself, satisfaction brimming in his chest.
Yue Ning interlocked arms with her mom as they calmly walked into the Xu’s residence with Lu Ran acting like the bodyguard.
As they walked, Yue Ning’s mind trailed to the mission the system had given her.
Flashback>
While Yue Ning was trying out some clothes, the familiar chime echoed in her mind.
"A mission?" She asked.
’Yes,’ it admitted. ’I would check it out now if I were you.’ The system said, urgency in its tone.
Yue Ning’s eyes narrowed, and her lips twitched. Sensing the urgency in its tone, she had a bad feeling.
She said the word, ’command,’ and the holographic panel appeared, the mission bar lighting up instantly.
[Mission: Piss of Xu Yuelan]
[Reward: 400 points]
[Timeframe: Before tonight ends]
"Xu Yuelan? Who’s that?" Yue Ning asked in confusion.
’You will find out at tonight’s banquet,’ the system gave a vague reply.
"Young Miss, are you done with that dress?" A stylist’s voice could be heard from outside, breaking Yue Ning’s conversation with the system.
Flashback Ends>
Her brows furrowed slightly wondering how she was to get it done. She didn’t even know who Xu Yuelan was.
One of the servants led them to their designated seats. All heads turned to them. Everyone present had already heard the news of them finding their daughter, and they all wanted to catch a glimpse of who she was.
When they settled in their seats, Yue Ning leaned over to her brother, and whispered into his ears. "Brother, do you know who Xu Yuelan is?"
Lu Ran’s brows knitted as he looked at his sister who had a pure expression.
"Do you know her? I suggest you don’t even relate with her. She’s just like her mother... rude." Lu Ran immediately undermined Xu Yuelan. He couldn’t allow his sister to be in contact with Xu Yuelan.
Yue Ning’s lips twitched at her brother’s response. It seemed he held a strong bias against this ’Xu Yuelan.’
"Relax, Brother. I am not friends with her. I don’t know her, so I’d like for you to show me to her when she shows up later," Yue Ning explained.
Lu Ran let out a sigh of relief seeing his sister’s stance. "Then, don’t worry. When she comes down the stairs, I’ll be the first to point her out for you."
Yue Ning smiled. Indeed it was easy with her brother by her side.
All of a sudden, Lu Ran leaned further. "I have to let you know that Xu Yuelan was once your husband’s fiancé." His tone carried the right amount of gossip.
Yue Ning was stunned. She didn’t know about it. If her brother hadn’t told her, perhaps she might not know the truth.
"Did you know about it? Is this the reason for this mission?" She questioned the system internally.
The system played dead, unwilling to give her a reply. She snorted coldly, finally understanding why the system had given her such an odd mission.
"But you don’t have to worry. Huo Feng called off the engagement before they could even work on it. He has my respect for that."
As though he had noticed the chilly aura around Yue Ning, he rushed to explain.
"I understand. I was just surprised since no one ever mentioned it." Yue Ning replied with a whisper.
Lu Ran nodded with understanding. "They probably didn’t take it to be a big deal. You don’t have to worry, Huo Feng will not be marrying Xu Yuelan in this lifetime."
Yue Ning nodded, showing she understood. She resumed her internal discussion with the system.
"The author of this novel absolutely needs to be sued."
’What’s your reason for this?’ The system asked curiously.
"She didn’t mention anything like this in the novel. She only caused him to die. She reduced such a fine protagonist to a second male lead. It irks me so much." She complained, her hands tightening around the glass of wine.
’You are here now, and you can tweak the story to however you deem fit. You have that power.’ The system said.
’Oh, I forgot to tell you,’ as if recalling something, the system exclaimed. ’Yue Chen’s female lead halo has been destroyed ever since Huo Feng took her away.’
Yue Ning’s slowly curled up. At least, she was blessed with good news this time around.
Suddenly, gasps rippled through the hall. All heads turned toward the grand entrance.
Yue Ning narrowed her eyes, wondering who could cause such a stir—until her gaze froze.
There he was. Huo Feng, standing at the entrance with a rare smile in his eyes.
He was tall, and sharp in his tailored suit. He had a bouquet of rare blue orchids cradled in his arms. His presence alone silenced the whispers, his steps deliberate as he walked straight through the crowd... and straight to her.
Yue Ning’s heart skipped, her mind racing. Why... why is he here? And with flowers? He didn’t tell her he would be present for the banquet. She asked herself, unable to give an answer.
’Host,’ the system spoke up, amusement dripping from its tone, ’I think your little side mission just got a lot more interesting.’
