Chapter 433 Ungrateful (23)

When Wu Caiwei took out the pastries again, the female inmates exchanged glances. In unspoken agreement, they slowly approached her. Wu Caiwei was lost in thought and startled when she looked up to see several faces right in front of her. She calmly patted her chest, rolled her eyes, and said with annoyance, "Don't you people walk silently? You scared me to death."

The women were surprised. They had made such a show, yet the other party hadn't seen it, or had she deliberately ignored them? Their usual tried-and-true tactics had failed with her.

Someone couldn't help but ask, "Didn't you see so many of us?"

"So what?" Wu Caiwei feigned ignorance. She was bored here anyway and found toying with them amusing.

"Since you saw us, if you don't want to get beaten, hand over the pastries," another female inmate said fiercely.

"Who knows who will be beating whom. Do you know what my nickname was before I was locked up?"

"What nickname?"

Seeing their dismissive expressions, Wu Caiwei leaned in slowly, pretending to be mysterious, "The Demoness Who Kills Without Blinking."

As soon as she finished speaking, the female inmates burst into laughter. One person laughed the hardest, clutching her stomach and wiping away tears. "Your stories need to be more believable. If you were a demoness who kills without blinking, would you be locked up in this cell? Besides, demonesses are usually highly skilled in martial arts, how could they have caught you?"

Wu Caiwei couldn't be bothered to argue. After they had their fill of laughter, she said leisurely, "I have my reasons, of course. But I warn you, I genuinely have martial arts skills. If you dare provoke me, you'll suffer later."

"Sister isn't easily scared. Hurry up and show us your skills," one of the female inmates said, feeling that Wu Caiwei was just boasting. If this continued, the pastries in her arms would be gone, and there would be none left for her. She was the first to provoke.

As soon as her words fell, she was violently thrown away. The moment she hit the ground, her entire body felt as if it had fallen apart. She lay motionless, her internal organs seemingly crushed. This was a sensation she never wanted to experience a second time.

Everyone turned back in astonishment to see her calmly retracting her whip and coiling it around her waist. If one didn't look closely, it could be mistaken for a belt.

These female inmates were all bullies who preyed on the weak. Seeing their sister's setback and the other party's inscrutable demeanor, they quickly retreated. Su Dan Novel Network

Wu Caiwei, seeing how easily they were defeated, wrinkled her nose with a hint of boredom. She then began to eat her pastries with gusto, confident that no one would dare to disturb her again so easily.

Later that day, as it neared noon, Wu Caiwei was lying leisurely on the straw on the ground. Suddenly, she heard the sound of the cell door opening. Then, two people forcefully pulled her up. Wu Caiwei didn't want to provoke them, so she went along with their force.

Upon reaching their destination, the two people tacitly pushed her forward. For an ordinary person, this would have sent them sprawling to the ground, kneeling at the feet of the person in front. But Wu Caiwei was no ordinary person. She seized the opportunity, feigning being pushed uncontrollably by their forceful shove and stumbling forward.

By the time the person in front realized, it was too late to move aside. He could only watch as Wu Caiwei crashed into him. He fell to the ground with his chair, while Wu Caiwei landed directly on top of him.

After a moment, she seemed to come to her senses, quickly got up, and repeatedly apologized, "I'm truly sorry, I didn't do it on purpose."

The person Wu Caiwei had landed on was none other than Old Master Shangguan. His body had just begun to recover slightly, and this impact made him feel as if he could barely breathe. He didn't even notice when others helped him up. It took him a while to slowly exhale.

Anything or anyone connected to Shangguan Ke seemed to be his nemesis. Thinking of the purpose of his current endeavor, he immediately ordered Wu Caiwei to be forcibly held down.

"Bold Wu, do you know your crime?" Old Master Shangguan looked at her sternly.

Wu Caiwei calmly replied, "This commoner does not know what crime she has committed. If you are referring to the crime of harboring a fugitive, which you mentioned when you arrested me, then I firmly deny it. I truly did not do it. Furthermore, you must have evidence when arresting someone."

"Evidence?" Old Master Shangguan sneered. "You dare talk to me about evidence? This is my territory. Even if you deny it, I have plenty of ways to make you sign and thumbprint. The instruments in the interrogation room are not merely for show."

"So Old Master Shangguan intends to coerce a confession through torture? Let's be frank. You want me to reveal Shangguan Ke's whereabouts. I'm curious, isn't he your son? Why would you relentlessly persecute your eldest son?" Wu Caiwei saw no point in playing games with him and found talking to such a person exhausting.

"Does a son stab his own father with a knife?" Old Master Shangguan retorted emotionally.

"Nor is there a husband who marries someone and then abandons them, leaving them to live alone, to honor your parents and manage the household for you, only to have to make way for your new lover upon your return. The murder of a mother is an unforgivable sin. I believe he did nothing wrong," Wu Caiwei looked at him steadily, wanting to see how shameless he could be.

"I've already said, his mother died of illness. He doesn't believe me, what can I do? Besides, this is no excuse for him to try and kill me." Old Master Shangguan felt a flicker of guilt for a moment, then convinced himself he had done nothing wrong. He had never had any affection for his original wife. They had been married for so many years, and he couldn't divorce her. After all, she had been Mrs. Shangguan for so many years and was buried in the Shangguan family graveyard, which was more than many could ask for. She had lost nothing.

"Fine. I'll have Shangguan Ke kill your mother another day, and don't resent him for it," Wu Caiwei said sarcastically, thinking that some things one only understood the pain of when they happened to oneself.

Old Master Shangguan pointed at her with a trembling finger, speechless for a long time. He had never met such a unreasonable woman and felt that if he continued to talk to her, he would die of anger. He quickly instructed his confidantes behind him to act.

The two slowly approached her. In a flash, as they were about to touch Wu Caiwei, she repelled them with lightning speed. Before Old Master Shangguan could react, Wu Caiwei was in front of him and threw a pill into his mouth.

Old Master Shangguan instinctively swallowed the pill. Realizing what had happened, he quickly tried to clear his throat with his hand, attempting to spit it out. Wu Caiwei tapped him a few times on the neck, rendering his efforts futile. He could only dry heave, unable to expel anything.

"What did you give me?" Old Master Shangguan looked at her in terror.
