Unlike the harmony in Aoba's squad, the atmosphere in Kakashi's squad was a bit tense.
Sai's narrow eyes and sharp tongue made it hard for him to blend into the group. Sakura, still fuming over being called an ugly woman, was irritable, and Sasuke's usual cold demeanor only made it harder for the team to connect.
Kakashi found it troublesome and couldn't help silently cursing that old coot Danzō.
Shoving someone into the team at this timing—could he be up to something shady?
Ino, however, seemed a little interested in Sai.
She was a face-connoisseur, and ever since she had given up on Sasuke, she hadn't seen another handsome guy she found appealing. Now that one finally appeared, she naturally wanted to get to know him better.
Then, following his "how-to-socialize" guidebook, Sai called her "beautiful lady," which instantly made Ino's heart flutter.
What followed, of course, was a silent "best friend battle" between Sakura and Ino. After all, Sakura had been called ugly while Ino was called beautiful. Sakura naturally couldn't accept that. The two traded insults, but neither dared to raise their voices, making the sealed stone hut's atmosphere even stranger.
Meanwhile, Tenten was using Hiraishin no Jutsu (Flying Thunder God Technique) to send paper notes back and forth with Natsuki. Besides exchanging intel, they were also sending the kind of messages typical between a couple in love.
Of course, the main focus was still information regarding the Six Paths Ninja Tools.
Natsuki had already guessed that Tsunade would make a move against Orochimaru, and suspected that Orochimaru might have intel on Kinkaku and Ginkaku.
Whether Tenten could get her hands on the Six Paths Ninja Tools—and rise to become a legendary kunoichi—depended on this mission. Even if she had to turn Orochimaru's base upside down, she had to find that information!
The next morning, after breakfast, everyone split up and began infiltrating the Land of Rice Fields from different directions.
Teams 7, 8, 9, and 10 all used the Transformation Jutsu to disguise themselves as ordinary civilians to avoid being recognized as Konoha shinobi, preventing any unwanted attention.
As for Guy's team, since Lee didn't know the Transformation Jutsu, they had no choice but to wear cloaks.
Originally, Lee suggested having Tenten summon Badola to fly them in, but Badola's size would draw suspicion.
Having Natsuki use Hiraishin to bring people in groups was also risky—after all, in their eyes, the jutsu consumed a lot of chakra, and since Natsuki was a main combat force, draining his chakra before the fight wasn't smart.
Natsuki didn't explain much and let Kakashi arrange things.
Natsuki had been waiting there, and had even used Earth Release to secretly dig out a cave. When everyone arrived, he led them inside and set up a soundproof barrier.
"How's the situation?" Kakashi asked immediately.
"From what I've observed over the past few days, Orochimaru seems to still be in his main base, with only Yakushi Kabuto moving around. Kabuto comes and goes on a fixed schedule, and every time he's inside, faint sounds—like Orochimaru screaming—can be heard. I think changing bodies has drawbacks for him, and the Third Hokage's Reaper Death Seal on his arms wouldn't be undone by switching bodies. He's probably in constant pain."
Natsuki's analysis brought smiles to everyone's faces.
If Orochimaru was seriously weakened, it would make things much easier.
The jōnin discussed briefly, and Kakashi finally gave the orders:
"Rest now. At midnight, we launch the attack. Team 7 and Team 9 will assault the main base. Teams 8, 10, and Guy's team will take out the smaller bases surrounding it. Make sure we wipe out Orochimaru's forces completely! Natsuki, you focus on finding Orochimaru's exact location. Once you do, send me a note—I'll coordinate with you to finish him off!"
"Understood!"
Everyone responded and began eating and resting.
Natsuki first went over to Aoba's squad and smiled. "Hello, you must be Kurama Yakumo. I'm Natsuki."
Yakumo immediately straightened up. "Boss! I heard you suggested to Tsunade-sama that I join Aoba's squad. Thank you for trusting me!"
She really said "boss" very naturally.
Looked like Yakumo had already integrated well into Aoba's squad.
Her personality was naturally good—her previous extremism had been entirely due to the demon inside her. Now that she had fully recovered, she had become gentle, lively, and cheerful again, and quickly became good friends with Megumi.
That was good.
Natsuki knew that with his strength, he couldn't stay in Aoba's squad forever. Now that Yakumo had joined, the new Aoba's squad was in good shape, and he could feel at ease.
After greeting Yakumo, Natsuki went to Tenten, and the two whispered together—basically feeding dog food to the rest of the room.
In fact, Natsuki had already connected to Tenten with chakra threads, quietly discussing the Six Paths Ninja Tools.
Regarding the mission plan, Natsuki also added his own input.
Since Guy's team wasn't participating in the attack on the main base, Natsuki suggested they head for the eastern small base—the one Kabuto often visited.
He had been watching closely and knew Kabuto frequented the eastern base.
There was reason to suspect it was Kabuto's personal lab, where he'd been doing plenty behind Orochimaru's back.
Considering that later Kabuto was the one to use Edo Tensei to revive Kinkaku and Ginkaku, Natsuki suspected the intel on them might be there—perfect for Tenten to investigate in the future.
As for the main base, Natsuki would search for Orochimaru himself. Splitting up this way would be far more efficient.
Time passed quickly, and soon Kakashi called for everyone to gather. They hadn't slept much, and were still yawning, but quickly washed up and regained their focus.
Kakashi scanned the group and gave the command: "Operation start!"
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The squads shot out of the cave, heading in different directions.
Guy's team, being the best at taijutsu, was naturally the fastest. In no time, they reached the eastern small base.
Guy and Lee didn't hold back—using Konoha Senpū (Leaf Whirlwind) to blast the doors open. The four of them rushed inside and soon reached the deepest part.
But to their surprise, there was no one there.
Aside from experimental equipment, there were also numerous body parts floating in nutrient tanks—enough to make one's skin crawl.
Even more striking was the pile of experimental notes.
It was clear this was Kabuto's secret laboratory, which explained the lack of personnel. The only question was—where had Kabuto gone in the middle of the night? Had he caught wind of their plans and fled?
